Not a bad hotel at all! Staff were out daily cleaning throughout the hotel. Inside and out. The lobby smelled real nice and the staff were all real nice. The room was also clean. It had a microwave and refrigerator! Our room had a small desk and a couch. The bathroom door didn't like to close for whatever reason. Breakfast was ok. The plus is you could make your own waffle! The WiFi was terrible. Bring a hotspot. The pool was one of the better ones. A huge pool! As you see in my pictures, no more slide. It also had a hot tub! The hotel is in a great location as far as plenty of restaurants to choose from and a mall close by. Also it's right off the highway. There are train tracks right outside the hotel. This hotel is an AMAZING value. Our rate was $103 per night, this included a free hot breakfast, very large room (with a sitting area separate from the beds), a great pool and friendly staff. Yes, you could see a bit of wear around showers and doors, but the hotel was very clean. If needing a room for an Iowa game or simply traveling through the area, this is a great stop right off Interstate 80. Super nice place and affordable. As a laboratory scientist I am really over the top about cleanliness where I stay and this motel has no odd cigarette smells or perfume-y cleaning odors. Everything in my room was clean. You could tell the tub inset maybe needs new caulking but that was all. It looked like the motel was full but it wasn't noisy. I was staying before an important exam and was so glad I could get a good night's sleep. Front desk at check-in and check-out were friendly and quick. Breakfast had several options for me as a vegan which I really appreciated. They kept everything tidy in the breakfast area. I would definitely stay again. read more

I went to stay at Comfort Suites Coralville I-80 with my husband while visiting friends and family. They offered great price rates for their hotel rooms and when we got to our room, we were delighted to find that it was nice and spacious. I also couldn't help but noticing in the lobby and in their continental breakfast dining area, how they maintained a very clean establishment. We slept well and then we went to get breakfast in the morning, which turned out to be of average quality at best. The eggs were definitely powdered eggs and not real eggs and the juice tasted like that out of a kid's juice box...full of sugar. Besides that though, the service we received was great and the staff was very kind and friendly. Overall, good hotel to stay at. My husband and I both agreed that we will definitely stay at this hotel again when we return to Iowa to visit family and friends. Definitely recommend!! read more

Pros: They claim the rooms are bigger than standard and I noticed a difference in space. Traveling with 2 little ones means more "stuff" and the extra room was convenient! The fridge in the room seemed larger than what I've seen in other hotel rooms, and I liked the smell/feel of the shampoo and conditioner. Staff did a great job cleaning daily. Amazing water slide and big hot tub! The pool was warm on the weekend (even when nobody else was at the pool) but was noticeably colder during weekdays. Huge breakfast selection! Eggs, meat, potatoes, fruit, yogurt, waffle maker with toppings, pancake maker, oatmeal, bagels, cereals, and muffins, various juices, tea, coffee, hot chocolate, and milks! Also, the location is FANTASTIC! It's close to Iowa City, I-80, and it's across the street from Coral Ridge Mall which has a bunch of stores and a decent food court, an ice rink inside, a movie theater, and a Children's Museum. Cons: Our shower could not be used as just a bathtub (water came out of the shower head no matter water), our bathtub didn't drain quickly so sometimes water would collect during a shower, the toilet wasn't secure to the ground, the small nightlight (ideal for reading in bed) didn't work. The computers in the lobby were slow and I wasn't able to get some work done that I had hoped to complete via desktop instead of my phone or tablet from my room. These are all minor annoyances that I'm sure could have been corrected or compensated for in some way if I had asked/complained but they did not negatively impact our stay. Worth mentioning: The pullout couch wasn't the comfiest but wasn't the worst. Considering it was used by our 3 year old, there were no complaints but I laid down for a few hours with a napping 1-year old and was thankful that it wasn't where I would be spending the night. Second, there is indeed a train right outside the hotel. We were not bothered by this in the slightest as our two children loved watching it go by. The earliest time I heard it was 7am, but my family wasn't already awake. Also worth noting that this hotel seemed to host many gatherings in the lobby for guests during our 4-night stay. I expected some shenanigans around NYE but was surprised that every night seemed to be a birthday party or family game night in the lobby where guests would move tables and chairs and take up the entire space. They brought in their own food, cakes, board games, etc. but it was a constant flow of celebrations. This is not a complaint, but an observation. Hands down I will recommend this place to anyone headed to Iowa read more

NO SLIDE. SMALL BREAKFAST. We rented a room at this hotel last minute during a snowstorm. It was comfortable and clean but not what I expected from the website. Our room was spacious, smelled clean, and accommodated 2 adults, 4 older kids, and our dog comfortably. Lots of pillows, extra blankets from the front desk. Dog fee was an extra $50, yikes!! The breakfast that was served was delicious. It could just be because of COVID but there was NO pancakes/waffles or cereal like other photos showed. We came here for the night before heading to the Herbert Hoover library and field of dreams movie site. I don't get the 3.5 review? I must say, I'm happily surprised by the hotel and room. Near me, the comfort suites are a dump, riddled with drugs and bad people. The place today was awesome. It was kept very clean. The hotel, when you walk in, was offering free cookies, yogurt and lemon infused water. The person at the front desk, white female, brown hair, kinda tall, was very nice to us. We went up to our room. The room was kept very nice. The bed was nice. The amenities in the room were nice. Downstairs, by the pool there was a water slide. Next to the water slide there was a hot tub which could easily fit approximately 20 people. I thought the larger water slide was very nice. The breakfast in the morning was normal hotel stuff nothing crazy except for the pancake maker. Which was like a rolling cooker. I was not expecting that. I'd stay here again. read more

After a long drive from Colorado we stopped at the hotel because the website indicated there was a water slide in the pool. Plus we are choice privilege members and the hotel is in that hotel chain. The hotel is brand new and the lobby is beautiful and clean. Even the hallways are clean and don't smell like 15 year old hotels without updates. The rooms are clean and spacious but the queen size bed was right on top of the heater/ac unit. Some of the negatives are that you can hear what sounds like elephants walking around. If the guest above is heavy footed you can hear it. Also at 3:22 am the train rolls through. Breakfast best yet. They had literally every type of breakfast food available. read more

Don't stay here if you want a good night sleep. We stayed here 4/1-4/4. The first night we were awakened by a train. This happened every night we stayed once or sometime twice in the night/morning. Plus you can here the traffic on the street in front of the hotel. During our stay we were also awakened by electric crews every morning working out front of the hotel or out back in the lot across the street where they were staged. On top of all that were could hear people on the floor above walking around all night long. Very frustrating. The next thing that ruined the stay was the shower. Took forever to warm up & it was a bit confusing because the hot & cold was backwards on the shower. The other thing maddening about the shower it took forever to rinse the soap & shampoo off. I can't remember if that's because of hard water or soft water but it left me feeling like I didn't get the soap off. The next thing that was maddening was the heat in the room. No instructions on how to operate it. It was running most of the time & when it would get to hot the air conditioning would kick on & blow cold air. The unit sits very close to the bed so someone is getting blasted with heat or cold air constantly. My final grips were Saturday & Sunday the jets in the hot tub were not working, but after Monday's maintenance the hot tub was running like a top. On the way back to our room the first floor on the East side smelled like wet dog. I noticed pets were allowed, not sure that had anything to do with it. Last gripe is the room fridge ran so loud the humming was deafening. Also bigger towels at the pool would have been nice. They were just a little bigger than a kitchen towel Those are the cons, here are some of the Pro's Breakfast is served downstairs. It was a great breakfast but there were many choices & we got full eating it. There was a patio area outside we took advantage of on the couple days it was nice out. The hotel is near a lot of restaurants, shopping & things to do. It was also very easy to get to. Few things were close enough to walk to. Also the parking was large. The room was very big & the bed/pillows were very comfortable. The price for the stay was fairly reasonable before all the fees & taxes they nail you with. In conclusion we will not be staying here again next year when we come back. read more

Older hotel that has been kinda updated. Musty smelling. Elevator was a sauna. Room was acceptable. Wall unit was loud as heck. There was a train outside our window a few times but I didn't mind that. Bathroom kinda updated. Leaky faucets in sink and shower. Wallpaper peeling off wall and poorly applied. Hallways have a kinda institutional feel to them ... not homey. Don't arrive late and expect to find food nearby. Pretty much everything closes at 9. Mind the school schedule when making reservations, it's near a college so there may be a lot of college age kids hanging around. Coffee isn't fresh. It's from a machine. Didn't rate one star because no one died, was injured, and no evidence of a felony in the room. Though I think there was evidence of an ... experience ... on the couch. Ewwww. Housekeeping and maintenance need a refresher in stain removal and basic household tasks. In summary: wouldn't return. Not worth the price of admission. First let me say that the staff were very kind and tried to be helpful. There's only so much you can do. We happened to stay on a football week-end so the room costs were TWICE normal. The property is old and tired and not very well maintained outside and in the common areas. The room, while surface cleaned, was not clean. The carpet and couch was stained and the bed was old and uncomfortable. There were few towels and no room service. We stayed three days and they didn't clean the room during that time. We had to empty our own garbage and go downstairs to get towels. We had a small dog with us and they charge $30 PER DAY even though they didn't clean the room once while we were there. I don't mind a reasonable charge, but that felt like a rip-off. All in all, regardless of price, I would not stay here again. read more

My wife and I called to book a room on Thursday night around 6pm as we were traveling back to Nebraska for my Grandfathers funeral. Luckily they had a room and we got it reserved. Shortly after that on the radio we learned of the Winter Storm Izzy and how it was going to blanket Iowa the next morning and we decided we needed to try and get as close to Nebraska as we could that night so we could make it to the funeral the next day and not get stuck in Iowa. We called the hotel (about an hour after booking) and asked to cancel and let them know we were going to push on. Rather than accommodating we were told we could not cancel and would be charged for the room even though we had just booked, regardless of the circumstances (funeral and dangerous winter storm/driving conditions) Seems very sad to me that there are still companies out there running their businesses like this and that $97 that night for the hotel (that we never stayed in) was more important than being human and helping someone out. Next time we go through Iowa City we will certainly be booking at the Holiday Inn, Springhill Suites, or Residence Inn. I can't promise they won't do the same thing but we can certainly hope and give them the opportunity. read more

Great team, great breakfast, Super pool. We had a family wedding and the pool was great for 12 active young people. The rooms are large and clean. BEWARE there is also a Comfort INN and Suites in the same town. Don't make the mistake of making a reservation at the wrong location. Avoid the Comfort INN and Suites at all costs. Call the Comfort Suites front desk for reservation only as the Choice Hotel 800 reservation service mixes up the two locations about 20 times per week. read more

This is my favorite place to stay in the Iowa City area. Their beds are the absolute best I have ever slept on in a hotel. The only time I've had a problem in my 6+ stays was when they put us in room 315 where the heater didn't work. They did change us to another king room quickly. We ended up here by a happy accident. We were supposed to land at the Comfort Inn and suites but Comfort Suites turned out to be what we needed and they gave us a discount on the room to induce us to stay. We needed both the hot tub and washer/dryer so this was perfect. The kids loved the slide in the pool, but heavier adults should use caution going down. The depth is only 3 feet at the bottom and my husband bumped his tail bone pretty hard. The hot tub was pristine and very hot. The beds were comfy, and there were plenty of places to charge our devices. Breakfast was good, with sausage, cheese omelettes, home - style potatoes, waffles, yogurt, cereal, bread, bagels and danishes. Plenty of fruit, juice and good coffee. The location of the hotel was good and was in what seemed like a safer area. Hassam at the front desk was very helpful and personable. Overrall, very nice hotel! read more

We have stayed at this hotel many times before. On our most recent visit, we made reservations a month ahead of time for New Years Eve. We requested that we have a room on the 1st floor due to my mother's disabilities. At the time of reservation, we asked if there were any parties being held there & we were told there were not. When we got there to check in, the place was literally packed. There was obviously a party going on in the lobby due to the amount of people, food & drinks that were there. We were not given a room on the first floor but a room on the 3rd floor all the way down to the end. The room wrecked of mold. My mother could hardly breath in the room. The front desk was unable to help us. I don't think we will be coming back to this hotel. read more

We let it go because the manager at the time (apparently new management now as on Jan 1st from what I was told) was amazing. Called today to setup the same thing, with LESS kids... However when "Tandra" picked up the phone, we were immediately told they don't do that anymore and she started arguing and getting rude with my wife. Asked for a manager who just continued to give us the run around. Sooooo..... Why did everything change?? Our first set of keys didn't let us into our room they were replaced by the front desk the second cards still didn't work. garbage and food scraps by the pool area were still there in the morning from the previous night. Breakfast had no coffee and when we asked she had an attitude with us. There was enough breakfast to feed one of us and it was only nine and breakfast ends at 10. there were food wrappers and straws under the beds. asked for extra blankets never arrived. Kids kids kids! Thought this place was gonna be loud. Surprisingly not for how many kids were here for the water slide that is open from 5pm to 10pm on Fridays and Saturdays. It was the train right in front of the hotel that woke me up at 4am! The room was clean and average size. King with sofa sleeper. Flat screen vizio. Bathroom ok. So the breakfast I'm not gonna do. Since the train woke me up I came to the lobby early for coffee. Moths and bugs hanging out by the lights above the food. I mean a lot of them. Gross. Really disgusting. We stayed here on our recent visit to Hawkeye Country for the 2015 Contributors Lunch and the Iowa spring game. We chose this hotel because of the water slide and I knew our kids would love it. The staff were very friendly, the rooms were clean and tidy, and the free breakfast was better than expected. The only downfall to our stay was the chlorine levels in the pool. Instant eye burning as soon as you enter the pool area and the air was poorly vented and caused my two year old to cough uncontrollably to the point he had to be taken out and couldn't return. My 5 year old had the cough as well but not as bad as my son and she she woke up this morning with a red skin rash and itchy. Not sure if it's always like this or if this weekend was an exception, but I don't know that we will return because of the pool issues. read more

We booked a room here for a staycation, so, strictly for the pool and water slide. Melanie at the front desk was VERY accomodating, offering early check in, securing a special room request (closer to the pool) and calling me back when she knew she could make it work and opening the water slide early. That said, the water slide does have certain hours (evening only usually) but the hours are not strict because they did open it early. Our biggest complaint was the chlorine in the pool. SO. MUCH. CHLORINE. You walk into the pool area and your eyes start burning. The kids started coughing uncontrollably not long after they started swimming. I thought it was half an act until I got to the top of the stairs at the slide and I started coughing. They took frequent breaks from the pool room just for reprieve from the chlorine. The rooms are nice, with a nice sitting area. The small couch in our double queen bed room was a hide-a-bed so it could comfortably sleep 6 people. All in all, a great experience and would've been perfect if they'd tone down the chlorine. read more

Have had a plethora of problems with this hotel in the past, from rude staff to dirty pool (got sick), to filthy rooms (this was changed by the desk, to a cleaner room). I will not stay here again. We had more than 1 bad experience here this month. First off the couch bed is NOT a bed. It's a blanket of springs and shouldn't be advertised as a bed to sleep in. When I complained how uncomfortable it is they wouldn't switch rooms unless I paid for another room. So I ended up sleeping on the floor which wasn't good but better than springs in my back. Then when we checked out we left an important orthopeadic item behind and they said they would ship it to us, let's just say they must have shipped it by turtle because we haven't got it and probably won't read more

Never again! We had a very dangerous and unbelievable night at this hotel in April. We were in town for a college visit with our daughter. For a reason that was never explained to us, the door lock on our room malfunctioned. This all started at 9:00 pm and did not end until 10:45 pm. My husband and I were locked in our room and our daughter was locked out of the room. The maintenance man attempted to tamper with the door, but was unable to open it. We had the general manager, Corey Woodbury, on the phone, however he did not come out to the property the entire time this ordeal was going on. We repeatedly asked for someone to call a locksmith, but it was not done. At one point I considered calling 911, but we wanted to offer the staff the chance to get the door open. Had there been a fire or other emergency, we would have been trapped in our room. Most upsetting was hearing this was not the first time this had happened. As a last resort, the GM instructed the maintenance man to put a ladder on the outside of the building and climb 3 stories (in the dark) to enter our room through the window (with his tools in tow.) Once inside our room, he again tried to open the door. The end result was that the door handle was removed, the door was pried from all sides, pulling out the door frame and inevitably breaking the door in half. With the door completely off, we could not stay in the room. To add insult to injury, we were informed the hotel was fully booked. They offered to book a room for us at another hotel down the street so at 11 pm we were packing our bags and moving to another hotel. We never received so much as a phone call from the GM, or anyone in management, apologizing for the trauma we were put through. read more
