The Spider-Man Exhibit was was nice which took the middle floor but besides that there really wasn't anything else at all that you could call a Comic-Con Museum. One whole floor was closed. And the lower floor was 6 costumes and that's it. There was a small Pac-Man area but the Spider-Man Exhibit was supposed to be addition to the Comic-Con Museum. I think in a decade or so this will be a great museum, but we went today and it just felt like this huge space with nothing in it. Second story was about a dozen original pages of a comic nobody has read in 30 years (Rocket man) and a room a modern age Archie comics. Bottom floor was empty but for a movie theater showing a 10 minute clip of a retrospective on wonder woman, middle floor is where most of the exhibit was, it had a very cool exhibit on gene Roddenberry, and a pretty bad one on pac man and two small exhibits of cool fan art. I'm a bit worried it won't be here in 10 years though, I was there on a very busy Saturday and there was maybe 10 people in the whole museum. It cost $54 for my 7 yr old & Ito spent 1 hour before it closed. He really wanted to see SpiderMan exhibit for some time. #1 they do not participate with Balboa Explorer Pass (which are a pass for all museums) at the very least a discount since pass holders support the arts in Balboa. The workers seemed annoyed to be there (doorman was great). I hope Balboa Parks reconsiders this place- not worth it! read more

We went on a Thursday which was free for Southern California residents, and it was so much more than expected. They're following tradition and offering one day a month free for SoCal residents but, they want to keep the days they're open in sync with our big yearly Comic Con events so they're closed on Tuesday's. I'm hopeful they'll keep the hands on idea alive like my family enjoys so much when we go up to the LA area. That's what we love about LA so, it was such a treat to see something similar in San Diego. The Archie and Josie and the Pussycats exhibit will be leaving soon but, it'll be replaced with something awesome, I'm sure. If you love those oldies please visit soon. They've got a theater on the bottom floor right next to the humongous black and white Batman celebration statue but, the best of all was the Star Trek exhibit. It's one of a kind and you get to sit in a Captain Kirk chair and take some photos. And, right next to the Star Trek exhibit are the huge Marvel characters made out of paper mache. The Comic Con Museum just opened up in November of 2021 so, it's new and growing. You're able to enjoy one day a month free SoCal or membership starts at only $10.00 a year for everyone! read more

Museum is good, if not completely fleshed out yet. No worries. That'll work out as time goes by. They lose two stars, though, for this: They timed their opening to coincide with SD Comic-Con 2021 Limited Edition. The Museum even had a booth at the Con. Their normal, base ticket rate for a day pass is $20 (not chump change for a semi-operational museum) and... they didn't offer Con-goers even one teensy tiny bit of a discount. Most Con attendees paid $150 for a three-day pass to Con, go to the Museum booth once inside, only to be told (para): "Come see our partially operational museum for full price ($20)"! Weird, right? You'd think they'd be bending over backwards to entice Con-goers... their natural demographic... to go to their new museum, but no-o-o-o. Don't know who's occupying the Marketing and Public Relations role at the Museum, but they were obviously AWOL when it came to this past weekend. read more

Honestly it was very underwhelming. It looked exciting from the outside and coming in into the pad man area. But there's hardly much to see. Not worth $20 per person. Most of these items seem donated so not sure why they need so Much to keep it up. It's very dusty inside also. And there are about 4 employees total. All sitting at the desks (2 at the gift shop, only saw one at the front desk but another came out later). They seemed really disinterested in what they were doing. read more

I have been wanting to come here since it opened and I'm finally glad I got the opportunity! Although not a huge museum, it seems that they really put a lot of effort into making the temporary exhibits fun and interactive. Currently the main floor has an interactive PacMan exhibit where you can play the PacMan arcade game and an exhibit called the Animation Academy that has tons of interactive components going through the history of cartoon animation. The lower level has a small theater playing cartoons if you need to take a quick break as well as some costumes from the famous Comic-Con masquerade. The top level has an art exhibit as well as a cool Makerspace (although closed on a weekday afternoon). It took us about an hour to go through it, and we participated in a small scavenger hunt that required us to look closely at the exhibits. Ticket prices are consistent with the other Balboa Park museums, with reduced fare for students/seniors/military and young children. Overall this museum is small but fun, and has the potential to evolve into a really cool place! read more

I visited the museum today because its comic-con related, it means it should be super cool right? Well, if you like pacman or star trek, then you will LOVE this place. However, I paid $40 (for my girlfriend and I) to potentially see starwars, marvel, and more stuff that I love, but I saw nothing related to starwars but some cart board sculptures (which were pretty sick). There is a huge lack on stuff for the price that is being charged in my opinion. But hey, if you like Star Trek, go! read more

Cute! Finally decided to see it. Thoroughly enjoyed the Hemingway in Comics exhibit. The Spider-Man exhibition was super cute. There were free games at the Pac Man exhibit. Participated in the scavenger hunt and won a pin (choice of pin or comic book). There was a private party that reserved the bottom floor. If they hadn't been there, we would've been able to view short video clips and see a Captain America and Hawkman costume. Lovely location in Balboa Park. Parking can be challenging. read more

There are three floors; the top is a gallery of drawings of characters, the second floor is ALL Spiderman, and the bottom floor is a gallery of what appears to be old Halloween masks. Saturday nothing better to do on a whim trip. Have always wanted to see the museum since I heard about it and unfortunately missed the con this year. Was it worth the price? Not really. The most entertaining part of the whole place was being able to battle my husband on original pac man arcade like we used to play when we were kids. Otherwise it's nothing to write home about. Took us about a half hour to walk though. I guess if we had kids with us they could have spent the day making card board X-men or something (they could do at home or at school). The theatre is cute, old school Looney Tunes were playing all day, we could have spent the day doing that if they sold popcorn and sodas. But they don't. Otherwise, meh. read more

Why so many bad reviews? This museum was worth every penny of the $18 or $25 entrance ticket! I went when they had an animation section, with old cartoons and stuff. There were stop motion animation simulations where you could move the figure and take a picture, and then watch your mini movie, which was cool. Additionally, on the other levels, there were not many comic-con costumes; less than a dozen. On the top floor, there were comic-con posters, but then again, not many if you're a hardcore Comic-Con fan. I can say that I really enjoyed the animation portion, so for sure five stars. This museum was a joke. We are members of Balboa Park pass and are avid museum-goers. We've been waiting for the museum to join the Balboa Park pass group but they haven't yet. Despite that, we decided to pay the *way overpriced* admission to check out the Spiderman exhibit. The Spiderman exhibit was well done but other than that, there was nothing to speak of in this museum. I actually left there feeling upset, angry and ripped off by the admission charge for a family of 4. What a disappointment. read more

My son and a I visited this museum when they hosted Spider-Man. The amount of materials and props they had was amazing, the set up and organization was amazing, just overall beautiful and fun. Do not go to this museum if are looking for a museum about the comic con. My family and I went to this museum thinking it would be about the history of the comic con or at least that it would be about comics. It's not. Other than a few t-shirts in the gift shop there is nothing about the comic con in this museum. And there are no comics! Very disappointing! My grandfather was a comic historian and his basement is more of a comic con museum than this place. Please change the name of this museum as it is very misleading. read more

From Pac-Man history (all the video games are free to play in the museum's arcade) to Archie comics' psychedelic candy-popping teens, visitors smile because the pop culture reflected in the museum's exhibits relates to us all. So unless you are a spider man fan, don't waste your time and money. The Spider-Man stuff was cool, but there was literallly nothing else of interest. It all depends on the exhibit on display and whether it is included in the admission price. We last visited during "THE ANIMATION ACADEMY" and it was an excellent, interactive exhibit that occupied the main floor. A bit disappointed that this is just a touring exhibit, but it was very good. Be sure to look up what is on display. I hope the museum can grow more into something uniquely Comic-Con. On a previous visit the main floor was an extra-charge touring show. Underwhelmed and disappointed! I headed on a weekend trip to SD to stop by the Comi-con Museum and check out the new Spiderman exhibit. The space is large and it was wall to wall Spiderman. But I would have liked to see more props, backdrops and maybe a few interactive exhibits. It was most definitely lacking in those areas. Overall, it was made up of pictures and articles. A ton of reading, something like this wouldn't appeal to children. The entrance was honestly the best part. The store was pricey and didn't offer enough items to choose from. I wouldn't recommend a visit for kids. I think this Spiderman exhibit appeals of more of an adult audience. Side note--I'm an adult and it didn't do much for me. So I guess it really just depends on the person and what they are looking for. read more

This was such an amazing experience --and equally amazing even spanning over multiple age groups. The Spider-Man exhibit was just beyond anything I expected and I can't wait to go back to see it again. We went on a Saturday and I was really surprised at how spacious everything was I didn't feel like any section of the exhibit was too crowded for comfort. When we first entered we were notified about a scavenger hunt that we could participate in and there were prizes at the end if you turned in your results. It was a really fun and got us to explore every aspect of the exhibit in detail because all of the answers could only be found by exploring the exhibit, you couldn't Google any of the answers to cheat your way through it. The scavenger hunt really got everyone involved in soaking up every bit of information in the exhibit and I think it really rounded out the experience. The prizes vary between water bottles, collectors pins, T-shirts and various things from prior Comic-Cons. There was a Pac-Man exhibit that had several video game cabinets that were free to play. There was someone dressed as Spider-Man taking pictures with fans which I thought was just so special. read more

In it's current state, this museum is a ripoff. Admission for an adult is $23, and for what? The bottom floor is a theater with a film playing on a loop. It's a 5 minute highlight reel of Comic-Con, a 30 min Pac-Man video, and something else I can't remember. The middle floor has the only interesting exhibit: some amazing box art characters made by kids. Truly impressive. This floor also has an arcade, an Archie exhibit (which is almost entirely posters), and a mostly empty exhibit of Gene Roddenberry's life. The top floor has one small room with a Rocketeer exhibit, and that's literally it. None of the exhibits go together or talk at all about those comics' connection to Comic-Con (or even why they were chosen for the museum). There is nothing about Comic-Con itself, and every floor is 3/4 empty space. I am sure this place will evolve over time and grow its collection - but until then, charging that much to look at a mostly empty show floor is ridiculous. read more
