Worst bank experience. I have been banking with Commerce Bank for 40 years and have many accounts and thousands of dollars with them. I when in to exchange some foreign currency $102.17 (by apple exchange tool). After standing at the counter for way to long and the teller trying to enter the transaction twice. She end up telling me they wouldn't do it because I didn't have over $100.00. I reminded her of my long history and large amount of deposits and ask to talk to some one at a higher level that could help me. She could not find anyone that I could see. Manager and assistant manager were not in at 2:30 PM. I'm looking for a new Bank!!! read more

I had such a great experience here today. I don't typically come to this commerce location, but I needed currency exchange and this is the only commerce location that does it in stl. It was such an easy process! It's Clayton, so you'll most likely have to pay for parking. I found a spot right outside of the bank (lucky me) and paid easily on the app. For 30 minutes it was 90 cents. I wasn't sure what the wait time would be like, so better safe than sorry. The building itself is super nice and has a city feel- fits right in with the Clayton vibe. I walked in and was immediately greeted by a staff member that asked what I needed help with. I told her and she told me I'd be helped momentarily. I was then helped by a staff member behind the counter. They have euros on site, so you can easily do your exchange right then and there. He did the conversion for me and asked for my approval, it was super simple. He was kind and easy going, very pleasant to talk to. The entire exchange took under 10 minutes, and I was in and out. I had a check from my mother's insurance company to deposit to her account. When I walked up to the counter, the young man there was on the phone, and completely ignored me for several minutes. No eye contact, no finger indicating "I'll be with you in a minute," no nothing. Another man came to wait on me, and the first guy butted in and told me I would have to go to court with the check, as my mother is deceased. I replied that my mother had a trust, and the exact purpose of a trust is to keep the heirs OUT of court. He repeated "court" about three times, during which I was getting frustrated, knowing he was incorrect. All I wanted to do was to deposit a legitimate check from an insurance company to an account my mother and I shared jointly for years. Man #1 brought over an older woman, a manager perhaps, and she addressed by first name (business people--UNPROFESSIONAL. Your customers are "Mr. Smith" and "Mrs. Jones" until you are invited otherwise or you establish a relationship with them) in a tone that implied I was a badly behaving child. Meanwhile a security guard came over and stood in what can only be described as a commanding pose. I said, "You called security on me?" Guard said, "They didn't have to. I saw your antics from over there. I see everything." Well, the next time Mr. I-See-Everything saw me, I was closing out an account and safe deposit box my family had for decades and taking my business elsewhere. In the space of about twenty minutes at Commerce, I was ignored, given false information, condescended to, and intimidated. Numerous efforts have been exerted to persuade the bank to disclose transaction details regarding unaccounted funds from my mother's account, yet everyone from her personal banker to the branch manager has failed to provide the detailed transaction statement necessary to trace the missing money. I called the number on their website and the woman at the switchboard asked me what location (I had dialed the number for Clayton). A man answered and asked me to hold --- 20 minutes later I hung up. I called back and told the woman what happened. She gave me a different phone number. A man answered and I told him that I wanted to exchange Korean Won. He checked that they would accept Won - they do. He then told me that they charge $40 for non members, and I would only get $.76 per 1,000 Won so he didn't think it was worth it. (He obviously doesn't know that's a (low) average exchange rate for Won.) He then suggested that I hold on to the money for my next trip. (!!) I told him that I have no plans to return to my job at an Army base in Korea. read more

Although this is my #1 Commerce location of choice, the fact that they are closed on Saturday's is perplexing. I love everything else about it; the building itself is beautiful, large and in charge, modern and chic. I use this location for my currency exchange purposes because it's the only Commerce in the area with the service. Tellers are pleasant and efficient but that garage style drive-up is a debacle and can make transactions a little frustrating when you're trying to conduct business in the underground. Save yourself some trouble and go into the lobby. You'll thank me later. read more

I have had a business account here for three years and have had nothing but problems. If you need a replacement business debit card it will take at least month. If you run a small business with regular expenses, this is a real problem. The tellers frequently deposit checks into the wrong account--despite the fact that I write the account number on the deposit slip. Thankfully, I have always caught this immediately, but it could have created numerous problems had I not. Today, I tried to deposit a check that was endorsed to me by my law partner (who also banks there). I have done this numerous times in the past at this very bank and other branches without issue, but was inexplicably refused today. It was apparent that the teller did not understand what it means to endorse a check. When I tried to explain the situation, the teller was incredibly rude and suggested that I might be committing fraud. Despite the fact that the check was endorsed to me correctly, she kept telling me she could not accept it because my "name was not on the legal line" (the "legal line" is where you write out the dollar amount; you would never put your name there). It's really hard to trust a bank with your money when it's employees don't understand the most basic things about their job. There are plenty of other banks. I will be taking my business elsewhere as soon as possible. read more

This location is never too overly crowded and it's easy to get to. The employees are friendly and the drive through has plenty of lanes for in and out service. This is also a good place to park when venturing around Clayton for lunch, it's a good location to any direction. read more

I've been a customer for 20 years in good standing. I've used Commerce Bill pay for the last 10 years or so. I learned this past Friday that despite having scheduled a credit card payment through Commerce Bill pay in advance of the due date that the bill was not actually paid by Commerce. The result is that the credit card company has frozen it and sent me nastygrams. Commerce has taken zero accountability and keeps stonewalling me while trying to straighten it out. Very disappointed and would not recommend anyone initiating banking with them. read more

We have had an account with Commerce Bank since 1987. I just closed the account today. This is the worst bank. Their cash advance program through a credit card is expensive and many errors are made. We have put up with their poor customer service for a long time and I have finally closed this account. Thank God!! read more

Have banked here more than 10 years. Within the past year the phone customer service has gone way down. I wait 10 minutes before the call is answered, and cannot reach anyone at any branch besides Clayton. There is very little online help, as well. Walk in banking is fine, employees are nice and friendly, but the fees for normal services have gone way up. Charges to get paper statements, fees for mobile deposit of checks, and now a fee of $8 per month if there is no activity in your account for 12 months. So if you have a savings account, the interest does not count as a deposit. Cost of checks have increased as well. Tried to send an email with my concerns, and decided that this was probably faster. read more
