Very bitter and stale coffee. I drank about half of the coffee before throwing it away. On a positive note the atmosphere was relaxing. If your reading this do yourself a favor go to a different coffee shop. Or go to a local gas station-that's how bad it was. read more

To write a fair review of Common Grounds, it seems there really must be two reviews. One, a review of the place itself. Two, a review of the coffee. That may sound unnecessary to someone who hasn't been there, but once you see it, it's impossible to ignore the place's charm. The entire building (once, an old home) has been redecorated into a bohemian's paradise. Every piece of decor is a re-purposed gem. If Free People and Starbucks had a baby, it'd be Common Grounds. The coffee, on the other hand, isn't so great. Granted, I haven't tried their pourovers. Both times I ordered something random off the menu that was called a "signature" drink. Both times I was very disappointed. There was enough sugar in one drink to rival a hot fudge sundae. The "cowboy coffee" was so sickly sweet that I couldn't finish it. If you *are* someone who tends to order frappucinos and like your coffee with (lots) of sugar, you'll probably love it. But it wasn't for me. read more

The drinks are expensive as hell, to start off with. But aside from that and the crowdedness, this is a fantastic location to just chill out and have a nice cup of coffee made by baristas that know what they're doing. The quality of drinks are consistent here, unlike that at Starbucks or other coffee shops. It's also nice that they hold concerts here too! read more

Unlike any coffee shop I've been to before, very boisterous and busy, this place has it all when it comes to coffee shops. It offers a rustic and outdoorsy feel as the back of the coffee shop is designed to hold outdoor concerts with adequate amounts of chairs tables and benches. Another great Waco icon. I'm not a coffee person, but I love their '254' drink (has Dr. Pepper in it). Concerts here (in the back) are great; I've been to several and have enjoyed all of them. Location is great for Baylor students and faculty. Would definitely recommend for an artisan coffee or beverage if you're in the neighborhood. They also have open-mic nights occasionally where you can enjoy local artists. Great place to sip and study with friends. read more

Very cute place but my friend told the barista that she has a dairy allergy (which is quite severe) and she was assured that she could get a drink that was completely dairy free. After taking a sip she suspected there was milk in it and asked again and the barista said "yeah there's a little bit in there" and then offered to make her a new one. My friend immediately ran out the door (knowing she was about to start having a reaction) and has been on the floor with hives and in pain ever since. Not good. Order with caution. read more

This is probably one of my favorite spots in Waco. Reminds me of freshmen year. The menu can be a bit overpriced but the coffee is good. Definitely a hipster crowd watching paradise and maybe if you're lucky, you'll spot some freshmen on an awkward first date. read more

Common Grounds is the place to get coffee around Baylor. It is right next to the campus and a great place to hang out, that is of course if you can get a seat. The coffee here is some of the best in the area, and it has a very casual and laid back feel. If your used to Starbucks's prices, then the prices here won't be a major shock; you get a much better cup of coffee here than you would at a Starbucks too. The concerts, that regularly held there, are usually quite good, that is, of course, you like semi-indie sounding rock. Over-all this is just a nice place to go hang out with some friends. Though, unless you like crowds, just get your coffee to go at night. read more

I give them the benefit of the doubt with 4 stars. Honestly, this is the only place in Waco that I can find that I would hang out regularly at (or do when I am visiting), regardless if it feels a bit inauthentic. And their cowboy coffee mixed drink is pretty good. The service is mediocre if not friendly and I enjoy eavesdropping on the Baylor students whose conversations usually revolve around Jesus, an MRS degree, fraternity/sorority gossip or any combination of all 3. It's like if Mayberry were a college town. The reviewer that called the vibe "Christian Hipster" couldn't be more accurate. Really, that's all you need to know. But kudos for a place like this existing in Waco. read more

Wifi is always spotty and I end up taking more time having to reconnect than it is worth. There's no exact parking lot which is a bit of a frustrating thing when you have to worry about being towed, which Pizza Hut plans to do daily if not weekly at random times. So I go for pure coffee taste and this was a good but not great place to get a cup of joe. So I'm a pretty regular customer...The coffee is pretty good, but service isn't always the best. Some days you get a happy cheerful person and some days they hate their life. Went through the last couple days, they have been out of punch cards and I asked if once they get them if they will punch my card. The guy said yeah, no problem. So today when punch cards came in I asked the girl if I can show that I've been here every day this entire week and have my card punch she hands down told me no. Like rude no questions asked no then charged me for a drink hey didn't have the non dairy milk to make and had to refund me. The rewards are half the reason I come here. I can go to Starbucks and pay the same price for coffee. If they could improve on customer service and hospitality they'd be amazing. Or have lower pricing for coffee. When you are the same price as Starbucks you can't really lack in any other area. read more

Went to Waco and wanted to see some of the businesses I see on HGTV. Went to Common Grounds in May. I was very disappointed, the coffee was good but the place was filthy. There was upholstered furniture that I would never sit on. This was not my idea of a coffee house. What would it cost to do a little cleaning and to buy some decent used furniture. read more

By far the COOLEST coffee shop you'll ever go to. Literally perfect location. Always filled with baylor students and hipsters. Almost too-trendy, helped by the fact that all the employees are. But if you're looking for a cool place to hang out or work, it's got one of the coolest vibes. I'm not huge on the coffee, and I think the menu is way to complicated and huge. BUT, it's a waco classic. The other good thing about common grounds is it is a SICK venue. Not the biggest or nicest but that just gives every show there a sweet raw feel. They have impeccable taste in music and bring in some of the finest bands around. Seriously, I've been to some of my favorite shows here and the bands they bring in usually pack the place out. They brought in The Civil Wars earlier this year and literally expanded the backyard area to fit more people (there were still people watching from the roof or from the trees). read more

My senior year and I still hadn't been to Common Grounds, *gasp*. Meh. Yeah, that's all I have to say. I ordered the Cowboy coffee which apparently is "famous". Um...it tasted like watered down Folgers instant coffee with a ton of corn syrup in it. I honestly couldn't finish it...which is unfortunate since it cost $5...yes $5 for an ICED COFFEE. Y'all are probably thinking.. Hmm why did this girl knowingly order an iced coffee that cost $5? Well it's because they don't have any prices listed. What establishment doesn't post prices? I understand it's on the edge of Baylor's campus and many students can spend money without blinking, but not all of us. I mean, I checked it off my "Baylor Bucket List", but I won't be back. read more
