Conveniently located on the corner near the Coles and land-marked by the strange UFO-like statue out the front forecourt (someone once told me it was commissioned by Raelians as a tribute to their extra-terrestrial masters) is my local bank branch. I often head here to use the ATMs out the front, which can be approached by a wheelchair friendly ramp or the steps (I'm still not sure which is quicker). If however I'm loitering at the other end of Boundary St I'll use the BankWest ATMs in the 7-11 on the corner of Boundary and Vulture Sts (** a hot tip for CBA members, you can use BankWest ATMs WITH NO FEE!). This place has hired a security guard to stand out front during business hours, perhaps because of the occasional screaming malcontent you'll find in the forecourt (sometimes I think the alien statue is looking at me funny too) but don't let that scare you off. I'm more afraid of those people with clipboards hired by charities who set up camp there, intent on waylaying you with a predatory smile and a concentrated 10 second guilt trip -- you can't really use the whole "I don't have a bank account, I keep my money under the mattress" line when you're walking out of your bank... Inside they have some cool extra features you won't find at all branches, such as a couple of computers where you can do free net banking. They also have this self-possessed silver haired gentleman teller who has this paternalistic knack for making you feel like a bad boy for not having insurance or a high-interest savings account with them. I've politely turned down his literature before and he's fixed me with a look which says "Well, when you're ready to discuss this like an adult maybe we can talk properly...". Seriously mate, maybe you should try a job with the charity muggers -- you'd go well. read more
