I have never been to a medical network like the Mayo Clinic. This place is absolutely massive, and…read moreI was not disappointed in the care I received here. I first visited to discuss a surgical procedure for my facial nerve. Even with me traveling here from across the country, everything was a well orchestrated symphony. The electronic check in systems gave me exactly what I needed to know, and told me precisely where to go. When I arrived, they even told me where I needed to sit for when I'd be called back. The care team took their time with me and I had all my questions answered and we agreed on next steps. They even got me in, same day, to talk to a physical therapist, since I was from out of town.

What I will describe to you is the phone system, the RN or MD calls you, and leaves a VM with the phone number to call back. Alas, you cannot call the number that is provided. I have a heart procedure scheduled, and you would think proper care would involve the hospital providing the patient with an important phone number to call in the VM. Of course, perhaps I am not an international patient who pays cash?? This practice should stop, full stop. I was told by a kind receptionist that the nurse ( who called 4 times within 10 minutes while I was teaching) leaving an accurate phone number to call back, was possibly a HIPA violation. What is going on here? This is ridiculous! Is leaving the correct number a HIPA violation, I think not. If so, how about a modern variation TEXT me the proper information, that is used with many Mayo correspondence. The app doesn't help, when responding to the updated time that was described in the VM. I believe I am not the only person experiencing this problem. Too big to fail ? Maybe

Our family has been using Winona Health for 30 years, including several surgeries and a handful of…read moreemergency room visits. We have almost always found the staff to be warm, helpful, and more than competent. We have had five children go through the Pediatrics Department from the time they were born until young adulthood, and the continuity of care and attention by the nurses and Dr. Lallaman have been more than excellent. This included several children with complicated medical issues that required the involvement of outside specialists. Turnaround time in the emergency department has always been excellent. Just to address some of the negative reviews... No institution is perfect, and I'm sure that Winona Health has had its share of issues over the years. However, rather than judging the institution on the basis of one bad experience, I would compare it to the health care you might get in the Twin Cities or another large urban area. Having grown up in the Minneapolis-St. Paul area, I have had plenty of experience with large medical institutions and can tell you that you are much more likely to have a bad experience in one of these, especially if you're coming into the emergency department because they tend to be overworked and understaffed. We are very lucky to have a relatively large healthcare institution with a wide range of services in such a small town.

I would not recommend Winona for HRT. They prescribed…read morehormones without requiring baseline blood work, which is not appropriate for individualized hormone therapy. The dosing felt excessive, and DHEA was included without any testing to determine whether I actually needed it. After getting labs done through my own physician, I was advised not to take the medications because they were not medically necessary for me. I canceled the order, but it was still shipped. The package arrived unopened, and when I tried to return it, they refused to accept it or issue a refund. Hormone replacement therapy should be based on proper labs and personalized care -- not a one-size-fits-all approach. This experience raised serious concerns for me about both their medical process and customer service.
