For things that are recyclable but aren't accepted in curbside recycling bins, you can take your items to Ecopark off of Paul Road in Chili. Today I brough scrap metal, empty prescriptions bottles, and the "bag of plastic bags" I know we all have. No appointments necessary for that stuff, though if you are bringing things like paint or hazardous waste, you will need to make an appointment online. Many things are free to recycle, some have a fee. I paid $5 to recycle a tire on a previous trip. The line of cars is usually pretty long but moves more quickly than you'd expect. Once you're in the building, attendants let you know where you can put your items. Drive out the other side of the building and exit the way you came in. Easy process, and there are a few less items in the landfill!

I dropped off a hospital grade recliner with an all metal frame. The only thing that was wood was the hollowed out press board and foot rest. I was charged with taking back the recliner and picking it up myself. Being that it's a mechanical recliner it was extremely heavy and ultimately I threw my back out. Don't go here there's plenty of other scrap yards.

ROC advertises their hours, Sundays being 10a to 4pm. No sign on the door or updated phone recording. Today is Sunday and I'm going to make ONE more trip this morning to return my deposits. Please don't disappoint, it's not easy as a disabled veteran to walk that far with 600 cans.

They have a system where they go to each farm/vendor at the market and ask for any leftover produce/food that would be going to the dumpster, volunteers sort and pick, and then the food is weighed and sent off to agencies/groups to deliver, or to a farmer. We had a super enjoyable experience. They take COVID very seriously and I felt safe the whole time. They look for volunteers every SAturday from ~1:30-4:30pm (though, we were there on a slower day and were done and cleaned up by 3:30ish - it just depends on the day). The Household Hazardous Waste program has saved me from a potential lifetime of nightly torment by providing me with a responsible way to get these chemicals out from under my sink. I give a call to MC-HHW, list the items that I want to divest myself of, communicate some basic personal information, and set up an appointment to drop off the stuff. (It's too bad I can't stop by whenever is most convenient for me, but, hey - they're doing me a favor. And it's free!) On the scheduled day I load said items into my trunk, and at the ordained time I drive into the MC-HHW loading dock. The loading dock looks like a modified and gated carport - it's a right-hand turn just before the recycling area. As I pull up, I roll down the window, pop the trunk and stay in my car. (They don't like it when you try to open your car door and would probably have an apoplectic fit if you were to get out and walk around.) As one person confirms my information and marks my name off a list, another removes the chemicals from and then closes my trunk. The whole process takes only a minute. After that - while savoring the happy thought that some bad stuff is now in the hands of the proper authorities - I go about my day.
