It's a small community credit union. Good and bad to it. The good? Friendly people. The bad. It's really tough to get anything done if anything unusual happens. And to quote a famous Radio personality, try to get anything done on their no service number. I bought a car and the dealer financed it thru Community. Rates were compatible and I have a savings account with them. Figured I would pay it off after a couple of months. Everything went fine until I tried to pay it off. I stopped in and they told me that the loan is in my wife's name. They did give me the payoff though. Seemed high so I asked them to verify payments received. Nope. It's her account. She needed to call in and give me permission to talk to them. OK. She did that about a month ago. Yesterday we tried to walk in and take care of everything. Got there at 2:05. Door was locked. Seemed they decided to close 4 hours early for black Friday. Nothing posted on line or on the door. Guess this is a new bank holiday. No problem. I called in today. After long hold times, I go thru the whole verification process to be told that they can't find the note from my wife. They can't call my wife. She calls in and since she is at work can't deal with the long hold times. They have a call back option. She leaves her number, they call back, and what ever happened at that point resulted in a really irritated text from my wife that said they S___. And now they are closed until Monday. If you are retired and can walk in, go for it. They are nice people and you are not just a number. DO NOT EXPECT service over the phone or the internet. read more

They are AMAZING! I use the Somerville branch and set up a small business account when Bank of America was being awful and I've never looked back. Everyone is friendly, they've literally driven to my office several times for paperwork, shower us with swag, and are fast with communication. I never thought I could love my bank! read more

Absolutely the worst bank I have ever used in 42 years. Sadly - I got stuck with them for a car loan and didn't do my research before signing. To begin with - their website looks like something from 1995. And you have to sign in 3 different times to make your monthly payment. When the auto-pay didn't work - some guy from an answering service answered and had never even seen the website - let alone provide help. Then I get a letter saying "we've been trying to reach you" to provide proof of auto insurance. Guess what? I never received a single call, email or letter until now. This place is a F- read more

Wow. This is a little concerning. Trying to register my Jeep in VT (it's registered in MA now) and couldn't find the title anywhere after paying off the Jeep in 2013. Called these guys and the first person I spoke to confirmed that after I paid it off they would have sent the title to me. Nearly about to give up, I asked to be transferred to someone who could actually check. After digging by name and then VIN#, she called me back and announced that "they did not release the title to you". There was no reason given, and had I not really pushed I would never have seen that title again. Best part... no way to overnight it so I can register in time tomorrow... 5-7 business days is the best she could do, even though it is actually 18 months late. read more

I have refinanced my mortgage twice at Community Credit Union. My first impression was very positive as the staff is very courteous and professional. After speaking with the mortgage center staff, I saw their professionalism and knowledge. I was offered different financing options to choose from. Great interest rates, smooth closing, attention to detail, and full disclosure of the loan terms. But the best feature is that they service mortgages for the life of the loan. No mortgage company can do that. I have been recommending them to all my friends. read more

Excellent customer service! I went in to open a small business account and ended up switching our personal accounts as well due to the amazing help I received. The manager explained every step of the way and made it a completely painless process. We also noticed that they knew the customers coming in while we were there. My wife and I have a vehicle financed through this place...not by choice; our dealer uses them. I send a check for the payment each month, on time, and for more than what is due. This past month, 4 days after my check was cashed, a woman called to ask "when we were going to be paying our car payment." Just like that. Like we were deadbeats. When my wife explained that I had sent the check, the woman stated we only paid $100 and we still owe. Turns out, when the payment was processed, it was split up and too much was applied to the principal. After getting the specifics from me (after I checked the transactions through their on-line banking site...simple enough for them to have done to research before sicking the dogs on us) my wife called back and got the above explanation. The woman essentially threw whomever processed the check under the bus and didn't once apologize for the confusion, the inconvenience, or for being generally rude on the phone. read more

By far the worst customer service I have ever had. I financed a car with this credit union (not by choice, just like the other reviewer) and have been a member for almost seven years. I recently went into the Lynn branch to apply for a personal loan and was treated horribly - passed off like I wasn't worthy of their service. Please! Anyhow, I needed a small loan to consolidate bills and pay for some graduate school expenses. Not only did I not even get a call about their decision but I couldn't get an answer from anyone for TWO weeks. The person who helped me, Navy, I believe her name was, avoided my calls and never returned voicemails. I understand if I'm not approved for the loan for whatever reason, but I don't appreciate being treated like this by a so-called "community" credit union. I expect this from big corporations but not from a small bank. Definitely going to close my account. Awful work ethic and unhelpful customer service. Wish I could give them zero stars. read more

I also had a loan from this place because my dealer picked it. I send in my payments much like Shaun and when I actually wanted to make a payment over the phone, she took my info put me on hold for 10 minutes without coming back on the phone. Call back and I was told they are closed. No sorry for putting you on hold and she didn't care. She interrupted me and told me to call back on Monday. This is the last time Im ever going through this place for anything. read more

Horrible!! Totally incompetent!! I was thinking about opening an account with them due to the location. It would have been ideal. Peabody is very close to my work. I could not believe the rudeness and attitude. The manager is real nice but this woman, her name is April Conn takes the cake. Totally rude and and did not even know any answers to my basic banking questions??? How is this?? You work at a bank? Makes me wonder if she ever had any training at all. I will stick with my bank at least they treat me decent and can answer a banking related question. read more

Horrible bank! I have my car loan through this bank, like the previous poster, not by choice. It was a bank that my car dealership utiilizes. I had a reduction in hours at work and fell behind on my car payment. I spoke with a woman in the Peabody office, who was extremely rude, un-professional and absolutely unwilling to help me in terms of payment arrangements to get caught back up. I have been through hell with this bank trying to get caught back up on my loan. I have continued to make payments on my vehicle every two weeks and currently am only 30 days behind on one of my payments. I asked for an extra week to pay off the two months that are due and they refuse to allow me that time. They are making threats to me about repossession and the woman in the Peabody office is absolutely attrocious to deal with. I am trying to get a hold of the president of the bank to complain about the way I have been treated by her. If I was a deadbeat person, who made to contact with the bank, made no effort to catch up on the loan payments, I could understand their reason for repossession, but this lady is just being a witch and refuses to help because it will ultimately impact how much commission she makes on collecting any outstanding debt. Buyer beware...if you are purchasing a vehicle and this is the bank chosen for financing, look elsewhere. I will be switching my loan to a new bank as soon as I am caught up on my payments again.
