We stopped by over the weekend, and the experience felt impersonal compared to the event last year. While one staff member went into the back to retrieve the goodie bags, the remaining staff gave us two tiny samples (quarter of a normal piece). He didn't explain the flavors until we asked, and after that there was just an awkward silence so we walked around and checked out the shelves. Unlike past events, there were no introductions of the product, the company or any recommendations. If the goal is to introduce new customers to Royce's chocolate and encourage purchases, this experience missed the opportunity. The chocolate is still smooth and excellent, but the customer service was a noticeable step down. That said, I still appreciate Yelp and Royce for organizing the event!

I love the Community Experience events at ROYCE', but unfortunately this particular visit was not it. Stopped by early evening after work (around 4:45-5 ish) and walked in to no greeting. Cool. My companion was with me and she instantly picked up on the energy. We started to look around browsing and taking pictures. Shortly after we were offered samples. My companion was trying to make small talk with the gentleman there asking him what was his favorite chocolate. He replied and that was it. We grabbed our Yelp tote and that was that. Customer service should be at the forefront for events like this, but in general. People want to feel welcomed when entering an establishment and unfortunately the guy there missed the mark. That sucks. Either way, grateful to ROYCE' for hosting the event and to Yelp Houston/Jando for the lovely offer!

Finally made it to this place! This place is in Chinatown and is a quaint little shop. This place is cutter and has all the selections. I sampled the alcohol infused milk chocolate and the dark chocolate sample. Both good and I like the fact that they have to remain chilled. I love some chocolate so I bought the 80/90% chocolate bars ! I tried them and im yes yummy! Also omg a yelp gigapet!!! CAUTEEE! Not yall bringing back my yuttteee! Shouout ti yelp for facilitating this experience!

I was excited for another ROYCE Community Experience this year, having attended some of their previous events. I visited on a Saturday evening and the store employee gave me samples of two types of NAMA chocolates which I enjoyed very much. I decided on the cherry liqueur milk NAMA chocolate to purchase. I picked up a Yelp swag bag as well which I found to be a cute canvas tote design. I found the experience to be more impersonal compared to previous visits. The employee explained the flavors of the two NAMA chocolates but did not provide as much of an intro to the store or other items, and I was a bit disappointed by the minimal chocolate in the bag as previously they've given more unique offerings. That being said, I am thankful for Yelp Houston and Jando for organizing and it was fun to visit Chinatown and purchase some delicious chocolate!

Thank you to Yelp and Royce Chocolate once again for this elite week! This is my third elite week at Royce and I enjoy the experience each time. Nowadays, you really do have to search and pay a premium for quality chocolate and I'm always impressed by Royce. The staff person was very helpful and explained some of the samples. I also ended up getting some dark chocolate from different countries. The white chocolate sample and truffle were pretty good. And I'm not complaining about the swag bag! Thanks again for this opportunity!

I'm not a big fan of chocolate but this spot is legit and tbh their product is high in quality, not that cheap chocolate. This is my 4th time here. Twice for elite week. Appreciate Jando & the yelp team for picking this place once again. They have a good variety to pick from. If you're not craving Milk/Dark Chocolate. They also have matcha, white chocolate, strawberry etc. I arrived on a Friday around 6pm & the employee who helped me was alright. I felt like he just wanted to get me in and out. I would've like to hear the history of Royce but I didn't get that. No worries because I just wanted to get my goodie bag, purchased a few items and get the heck up out of there. I only got to try 2 samples. One of them had a bitter aftertaste which I wasn't a fan of. The other one was solid. Creamy and melt in your mouth and had the perfect amount of sweetness. I decided to get their fruit bar chocolate (strawberry) & Nama chocolate (strawberry). I had the fruit bar before and it was delicious. It reminds me of a Kit Kat with strawberries instead of milk chocolate. Creamy, sweet and had a good crunch. Overall, it was cool. Staff could be better but I was content with my purchase. Next time I'll have to come back and get one of their matcha candy bars.

What a great experience today with Royce Chocolate. Thank you Jando CM extroidinaire and Yelp Houston for this fun and yum experience. We were instantly and warmly greeted as we entered by the sweet ladies working July 18. Not 1 not 2 but 3 samples of chocolate? Scoooore! (Sorry still have World Cup energy) We bought a few boxes of chocolate because can never have enough of Japanese based chocolates. Definitely worth the drive . Cannot wait to return!

Good to see Royce Chocolate is back for this year's Elite Week. Easy check-in process to redeem your goodie bag. I like the new design of the elite tote bag, it's cute. We got to try 2 chocolate samples from Royce. We also received chocolates in our goodie bag along with some Yelp swag. I've purchased chocolates from Royce before and really enjoyed their matcha chocolate. They have a lot of options to choose from and they're always stocked. Overall, this was a nice pick-me-up. Thanks to Jando, the Yelp Houston team, and Royce Chocolate for organizing.

I came on a Saturday, and my mom and I got to try some chocolates and look around to see what chocolates were available at the store. We didn't end up getting anything though.I love the tote bag and the goodies for the Yelp Elites. It had some Royce's chocolate samples, and those were so good. I want to get some next time!

What makes Roycè chocolate unique?? The answer is: the TEXTURE & the INGREDIENT'S. Royce chocolate factory is located in Hokkaido, Japan. Hokkaido is rich in nature and has an abundance of agriculture products and dairy products, so many Hokkaido ingredients are used in the chocolate. Price range from $12 to $125. First location in the United States was in New York, New York. Today USA has 24 Roycè locations. Mia was very kind and soft spoken. I was happy to collect a sweet Yelp swag bag, with party favors from Yelp and Roycè collectively. Thank you's: A Sweet & chocolaty Thank you to Yelp & Roycè for a short N' sweet knowledgeable experience, about imported chocolates from Hokkaido Japan. Great gift choice for: first dates, birthdays, weddings, anniversary's, graduations, grieving families, or just because you're sweet on a Saturday love kinda afternoon.

Another fun Yelp experience that I had the pleasure of attending. This one was a sort of quick experience at ROYCE' and included some samples in store as well as a cute Yelp swag bag. I found this event sort of lacking? It was nice to revisit ROYCE and see what was in season but it was also mostly just a pick up a swag bag and go sort of event. The swag bag was awesome, including mostly Yelp swag which had a cute tomagotchi so that was a fun surprise throwback but had minimal ROYCE based goodies. I think there were 3 samples of chocolate but I wish I at least knew what the samples were of in case I wanted to buy more. The only "in store" experience was sampling some of the melt-in-your-mouth nama chocolate (which is a ROYCE specialty). It was great to sample them but that's also a standard practice of the shop and I do usually walk away with some sort of chocolate. This time I got some tea chocolates, which sounded awesome. Overall, I enjoyed this event because it gave me an added reason to go back to ROYCE. It just didn't seem much like an "event" or "experience" in the sense that it was mostly just a grab your swag bag and head out sort of deal. The flexibility of the ~month long event makes it a plus and I can see why there wasn't added fanfare cause that would be too much but just wish there was just a touch more.

I loveee Royce Chocolate and am so happy for this Yelp Community Experience! The swag bag (cute tote btw) came with a few samples of chocolates, stickers, snack clip, a fan, and get this - a tamagatchi! Crazyyy and so cool. They also had samples of their Nama chocolates available, which roughly translate to meaning "fresh" and is such a delicate, melt-in-your-mouth texture, much like a ganache, and of course their chocolates are most famous for being made with dairy that comes from the cool-climate and nutrient-rich Hokkaido (from the volcanoes I assume), an island known as Japan's breadbasket. Every time I'm in this area, I can't stop myself from getting a treat here (my poor diet), but it's so worth the joy. Thanks Royce Chocolate and Yelp for giving us this event!

Their signature product Nama chocolates are in a refrigerated environment near the billing area. Got a taste of two as samplers: 1. Non alcoholic dark chocolate : Ghana Bitter: really good. 2. Other, supposedly had a bit of an alcohol.- Champagne Pierre Mignon : This was more milk chocolate based and I loved it. The ladies at the counter were very friendly and took time to explain about the origin, the specialties, where do the authentic ingredients come from, the various seasonal flavors, the rewards membership etc. They even gave out dark chocolate samples very generously. Additionally, they had their chocolate dipped chips ready to savor as well. (yum) The chocolates come from Japan, in particular, Hokkaido.  The variety available is reasonable and orders can be placed online as well. Their Nama chocolates come with an ice box which make them safe for the next 4 hours on the road - I thought that was pretty cool. They had a pre-packed goody bag ready for the elites, which contained some knick-knacks from Yelp, and a couple of sample piece chocolates.  In store, I was wondering how the chocolate wafers tasted, and so I was especially glad to find one in my goody bag. There is a discount coupon as well in the goody bag, good for $10 off for a $50 purchase by July.  Membership is easy, and once you earn 5 stars, you get to take a box of Nama chocolates for free !  I have eaten Royce before online, but in store looked as tasted so much better.  Thank you Yelp and Royce for this sweet treat on a warm day.

Interesting to hear about the store in Houston, in the heart of Chinatown. So lucky to be able to sample two Nama Chocolate flavors. My hands down favorite was the Nama Chocolate Champagne Pierre Mignon. Made with milk chocolate and fresh cream and lightly infused with champagne, it just melts in your mouth for an exquisite treat of unbelievable flavor. The Nama Ghana Bitter Chocolate is a liquor-free confection made with milk chocolate and fresh cream. It is so smooth but was a bit bitter for me. So many other delicious treats are available to purchase as well, like their famous chocolate covered potato chips, pistachio chocolates and chocolate coins. Thanks for the cute samples to share at home. Parking was so easy. Just missed the rain. Thanks to Lana and Crystal at ROYCE' Chocolates and Yelp Houston CM Jando for this fun event. I have not been on the Yelp Squad long enough to remember any previous back-to-back, black owned businesses events for black history month. But I loved particpating in them! As they are important to me. Thank you Jando, Yelp Team, owner Ben and his wife and team for a successful event. While the event did start on Nigerian time, IYKYK, I somehow expected it, lol. The vibes were definitely vibing for sure. I loved the DJ with Naija beats. And the dress of cocktail hour instead of casual. Most folks were busy at the bar for the first half of the night. So I got a chance to really observe the asethetic. Great choices of fabrics, wallpaper, paint, dinning room pieces etc. With nice deep purple velvet fabrics in there dinning area. And the black marble at some of tables. It's giving a lux day or night lounge. Which may be the eventual next direction? It would be a nice event space for a private party or birthday party. The drinks, I really didn't get into until the end of the night. It was packed and slow going. The long wait time wasn't really worth the drinks by the time I got them, but that's ok. They were large batched. But I know the bartenders were doing there best. Don't know if they were prepared enough for the crowd that enjoys cocktails so much?? I got the mocktail and the side car. Which I know people complained of being too sour. But I liked it, and also enjoy sour drinks. The food was passed in waves, and the typical feeding frenzy. I decided to take my time, and only focused on what I could get my hands on at the time. The suya, jollaf rice, and corn. All were great. But the most important part was owner Ben and his speech. He told us about his loved one Rhay which the restaurant is named after. I also have never seen an owner open up for Q&A after there speech. And he did answer questions. He seems like a genuine guy that is really trying to create something of success here. I look forward to returning. Thanks Yelp, for shining a light on this new business, and exposing me to something I may have never ventured out to. I will be returning.

We were given drink tickets at the door and kudos to the bartender for handling the big crowd. Later, the food started coming out. The firehouse wings and the suya kabobs were my favorite. At some point, it seems like the servers were getting overwhelmed with the crowd but nonetheless, they did a great job getting the food to everyone. Myself and a few friends sat down in a quiet area and decided to order off the menu to support the business. We tried the suya kabobs that came with the jollof rice, suya street tacos, and ordered some more of the firehouse wings. Service was great even with the Yelp event going on. I enjoyed hearing from the owner and his story. The DJ was also popping the whole night. This was a great opportunity to come out to the Westchase area. The wait staff was great with my kids too, my daughter specifically. she doesn't do all that well in restaurant settings, but it was quite a pleasant-ish visit. I will for sure be returning! When we were done we headed to Six Ping and got some pretty tasty pastries. I got a Taiwanese Red Bean cake and it was so good. it wasn't too sweet and it had tons of flavor. My kids thought the Hello Kitty cake was hilarious, the look on their faces was even funnier when I said I wasn't buying it. HA!! And then! We went to Nu Café and it was a life changer. Oh man the Shaved ice is like nothing I have ever had before. I didn't know shaved ice could be so good. I got the Coconut shaved ice with condensed milk, strawberries, and rainbow jellies. We had a full house and it was more comfortable to have the whole place to ourselves. The staff were very attentive and helpful to each table. Easy to order from their menu and services were pretty quick. For some, it was their first time trying hotpot so I hope they enjoyed this new experience. Hot pot is always fun with a group of friends. I sat with some of my good friends, Jason, James, and Tri. After dinner, we got to hangout with each other a bit more. Also got the chance to meet the new Houston CM, Jando. What a great night to see some old friends! Looking forward to the next one.

In his usual fashion, Lou brought culture, fellowship, and food together for a great evening out. There were a few faces I was familiar with, and some new ones as well. We had an opportunity to hear from the store manager, another guest was someone involved in the community, and the new CM joined us for the event too. A good few of the OG group came out, and we had a great time. This particular event, we weren't able to get everything in, so we had dinner and dessert. We didn't get a chance to hit the market. There will be another event in March if you're interested in checking it out

The festival was June 4-14 with various topics daily shown on Eventive Virtual. Admission was free and it accepts donations during the screenings of over 40 Asian American Pacific Islander (AAPI) films and special LIVE and pre-recorded Q&As with filmmakers. I attended the preseason teaser screening in May. It was kind of fun until the movie stopped due to technical difficulties. Not sure if it was my internet connection or from the host's computer. I didn't stay to the end (maybe it was the end). The fun part was that participants can chat while watching the movie (I think that was the reason for crashing). I heard from the festival organizer, they can show more movies outside of festival. For example, ASIAN AMERICANS Documentary will be featured at the Virtual OCA National Convention this Sunday August 2nd. I'm waiting FERMENTED movie to be shown again. Because I want to host a virtual watch party with my foodie friends. What's 2021 gonna look like? I don't care it is gonna be virtual or in person, as long as Houston AAPI Film Festival continues forever.

We had a great time!! Thanks to Lou for putting this great Chinatown crawl together. Parking at the…read moremetropole center was a breeze, plenty of spots were open. Lou had two big tables for all of us at Lai Lai dumpling house. I saw a bunch of familiar faces! Great to see Olivia and Cherry again, and meet Marci and all the others. First we had two different styles of dumplings, Chinese style and American. The Chinese style had a thinner dough and more veggies while the American kind had more meat and a thicker dough. The ants on a tree was sooooo good, the minced pork in it was so tasty. Lou ordered for us and the food was just cranked out so fast! The soup dumplings and the pan fried dumplings were some of the best I have ever had! I also really enjoyed the general tso chicken, it was fried so well and had a ton of flavor. I don't really want to talk about the stinky tofu. It was uh, yea, stinky. I wish we had gotten a video of baby Rose trying it. I surprisingly really liked the thousand year old egg with tofu. The sauce on it and the egg were my favorite things of the night. I really did not expect to like it as much as I did. I got some really good stuff at Olympic bakery! The sun cakes are so good and the taro ones too! I wish I had gotten more. I got a coconut tart too but it was rather dry. I love coconut but I would definitely pass on that one next time. Oh my lets talk about star snow ice! I got the vanilla shaved ice with egg pudding, almond pudding, fresh strawberries, rainbow jelly, red bean ice cream, and condensed milk. Oh my yum!!! It was amazing! Best red bean ice cream ever! Everything was fresh and the flavors all together worked so well. It was the highlight of my evening!

Yelpers and…read morenon-Yelpers followed me on Instagram and other social media just to stay in touch with my quarterly event. That's awesome! Time for Taiwan was created with an idea from Taiwanese Tourism to promote traveling to the island from abroad. I'm happy to help them promote this 35-day long event in Texas. It drew over 200 Yelpers in 2 locations - Houston and Dallas. Last year, my Yelper friend Jamie A suggested hosting an UYE with one of the participating restaurants. We met at Café 101. We had an interesting turn out. This year, I boosted it up with #ChinatownCrawl style for more exciting food choices and extensive variety for my guests to enjoy. The idea of crawl was to dine, dessert and shopping on one evening. This 2nd annual #TimeForTaiwan UYE featured Taiwanese cuisine at Lai Lai Dumpling House, breads at Olympic Chinese Bakery and boba tea at Star Snow Ice. Please read the reviews on this biz page. They described the details better than me. If you've never been to my #ChinatownCrawl UYE, here's your chance. I'm hosting #NightMarket Tapas UYE next Friday, December 9. For details, check the event page. Psst, for those who answered the survey and missed the question on the theme color. The correct answer is green for Formosa - the former name for Taiwan.

I really wanted to find an occasion to celebrate my birthday but hard to find time. So, here we go. Thank goodness no one took a photo of their name tags. I didn't prepare any. I was busy and I rushed from work that day. I barely picked up the cake from Olympic Chinese Bakery. Alan already arrived. With my original RSVP, there were just few Yelper friends. We know each other. So I thought we'll be okay without name tags. Oh boy, more people arrived. Ok, I had no choice but think quick rabbit. I dug out of my trunk and found some old name tags from past events. Who cares? I had a pen and there we go... The food was already pre-selected. Thanks for the owner of 75 Yummy Kitchen, Sherry. But the waitress came to take order again. That's where the mess started. She ordered extra something because she said 4 pounds of meat were not enough for 12 people. Then, she added some expensive side dishes. My original plan of $12 per person jumped to $17.50 with tips. Plus, there was no sign on the buffet line to tell people don't pick food from there for sheep scorpion hotpot. I was so embarrassed to tell my guests. I can't call this a Chinatown Crawl, because all stores are closed at 9 pm during weekdays. We stayed til the restaurant about to close. I don't see anyone else writing a review besides Alan. Okay... Mmm... Well... I'm not coming back to this restaurant for my UYE again. p.s. Sherry left Yummy Kitchen in April. Everything we had is not the same any more. **57th review of 2017**
