There are so many destinations along Buffalo Bayou - parks, hillside views, bridges, art…read moreinstallations, flower gardens, monuments, little nooks and bends - that I love equally and truly enjoy. Points along the Bayou that beg anyone to stop, stretch, and take in the scenery. But Allen's Landing is probably one of my favorite spots - and the most historically significant. Allen's Landing is the officially recognized birthplace of the city of Houston, where brothers August Chapman and John Kirby Allen - the Allen Brothers - stepped off the murky bayou waters and claimed the land. "Houston's Plymouth Rock," some compare. It officially became the original Port of Houston, and present day, it's a city park and site of the Texas Dragon Boat Festival, Buffalo Bayou Regatta, and Buffalo Bayou Partnership Building (located in the historic Sunset Coffee Building). Anyone remember the awesome Yelp photo gallery event hosted in that building? Yeah, that was a special moment for me. :) For visitors, there are a few paid parking lots and metered parking along the way (free after 6pm). And with the sun setting around 8pm this season, we most recently took advantage of that with a small picnic along Allen's Landing - food, wine, candles, the view, the people watching. The space itself is neat and well-kept. It is a pretty view of the bayou, though sometimes you can get a waft of that fishy bayou smell. I was there on Saturday, 5/4/19 for the Texas Dragon Boat Festival (see pictures attached). This is a unique and fun outdoor Houston experience, where company-sponsored teams compete against each other while racing in carved dragon boats. There is a stage set up for dancers and performances through the day, and there are several vendors around as well. This is an annual Houston event that I would recommend. Be sure to bring sunscreen! As far as the pontoon boat tour went, we had a lot of fun. It was a little chillier on the water, so bring a jacket depending on what time of year you go. We learned a lot about the city of Houston's history as a port city.

The Westpark Tollway is a really awesome road filled with (lol) goal oriented people (lol) because those who don't use it (lol) can't possibly have goals in life (lol). (Get up and see the sarcasm in my eye?) But it's useful to get you to Katy without much traffic, or to spots like Richmond and the Energy Corridor and even over to Alief and Chinatown sometimes. In heavy traffic it can occasionally rescue a driver just in time when 69 is a nightmare, or a little too late (since the 610 junction is when it's really bad). I'm glad it exists, but they should probably have put three lanes on it because then getting to Katy quickly would be a lot easier and the tollway would be less prone to hold ups from bad and slow drivers in both lanes. It's a strange highway because it's so skinny and cuts right through neighbourhoods and I feel bad for a lot of the people who live along it - but Life Goes On.

Dang that Westpark tollway was totally the ticket! It was empty (mid day) and I was at the Galleria in 20 minutes! Awesome! It is absolutely EZ tag ONLY! There is no option to pay with coins or cash, so don't even try it without an EZ tag. Why not 5 stars for an awesome convenient tollway? Well, the interchange at HWY and the tollway sucks. It's a major intersection, but to get on the Westpark tollway going east, you have to travel 2 miles on regular roads. When you get off the tollway going west to get to Hwy 6 south you have to travel even further. Dumb. There should be a quick on and off entrances and exits. Otherwise, it's a great road and makes suburban life much more convenient.

My pops used to make me sit outside and hand him things as he tinkered on beat up Range Rovers, BMWs, what nots. The need for speed has not died down with age and it's still like beautiful art to me. This venue meets once a month, the first Saturday of the month from 0800 - 1000. It's kind of testosterone driven. But it's all friendly. You' ll hear a lot of revving of engines and spectators are standing around with their cameras just drooling at the entrance. I've seen a wide variety of things here. I'm not quite sure why someone thinks that their 90s style vehicle with body damage is worth looking at but I totally fawned over a McLaren. You'll see the usual suspects: Ferraris, Porsches, blah blah blah. You might also get some modified Magnums with the wing doors and some REALLY nice classic Americana hosses too. I'm all about when muscle was muscle and it's nice to see say a 63 Impala (um your modified 2003 Impala? interesting), Chevelle, GTO or any of Detroit's finest classics in the lot. Wish it still met in the Galleria location. Suggest not going during summer months or holiday weekends. Hot and less inventory depending highly on the owners who want to show up and when they want to leave. But if you're a car fanatic like me, you gotta give this a go.

The baguette was soft and slightly crispy on the outside. It seems their thing is the "broth" different asian soups paired with different asian noodles, however we didn't get to try any of that. The vibe caters to a specific anime/manga crowd. If you're into anime/manga sticker collages, then this feels like your hang out spot. See the sky through a different light at sunrise and sunset…read more Twilight Epiphany Skyspace by James Turrell is part of the Skyspace series of monumental, interactive sculptures that can be found throughout the world. These works of immersive art are meant to have the viewer experience the sky and the surroundings. Twilight Epiphany Skyscape is located on a pyramid mound of earth. It is interesting to see the light sequence projected on the concrete "roof." The 40 minute light sequence starts 40 minutes before sunrise and 10 minutes before sunset. Climb the stairs to the second level seats or sit inside the pyramid. Or view the show from outside the pyramid. I think that is the better view. Look at the Moody Center for the Arts calendar to take a guided tour to learn more.

As an art head and aesthetic enthusiast I've always wanted a Claes Oldenburg installation or architectural wonder open to the public in my city. Around 2012 my wish was granted! Located on the Rice campus, this spot has provided many a memory. Highlighting art, space and nature, this beautifully constructed, sparsely attended, and (imo) under appreciated spot is truly a standout in the community. I understand how this spot may feel ordinary to some, but between this, Rothko chapel, and Menil, all my aesthetic dreams are answered. Pro tip: This installation requires parking at the Rice Campus, and a short walk so be prepared! If you're visiting someone at Rice, St.Thomas TIRR, or the nearby hospital, it's def worth the stop in.

I was welcomed warmly by an employee. He was really sweet and we chatted a bit. Entering into this Royce establishment does make you feel a little bougee. I felt like I was buying perfume or a Gucci bag! haha The vibe does make you feel like you're buying luxurious chocolate, though. I've never heard of Royce or tried their chocolates before and was highly impressed at the quality and taste of this Japanese chocolate! I was able to sample two; one was white chocolate and the other one was milk chocolate/hazelnut with cocoa powder dusted on the outside (I think...haha). Anyway, I LOVED the white chocolate one! WOW! I'm still thinking about the amazing taste and texture of it. The tote bag was super cute! I loved the slogan on it. I did wish there were more chocolate samples in the bag, but I'm not complaining! The Tamagotchi brought back nostalgic memories and is a cute little gift that my boys got to enjoy. I love all things chocolate so this was such a nice treat. Thank you!

The cool climate is the perfect environment for creating these delicious creamy treats. The first store in the US opened in 2012 on Madison Avenue in NYC. Interesting to hear about the store in Houston, in the heart of Chinatown. So lucky to be able to sample three Nama Chocolate flavors. My hands down favorite was the Nama Chocolate Champagne Pierre Mignon. Made with milk chocolate and fresh cream and lightly infused with champagne, it just melts in your mouth for an exquisite treat of unbelievable flavor. The Nama Chocolates need to be refrigerated as they are made with fresh cream. They are packed with an ice pack for the drive home. They are good for about 30 days, if they last that long. So many other delicious treats are available to purchase as well, like their famous chocolate covered potato chips, pistachio chocolates and chocolate coins. I was browsing for a sunrise area in Houston and found this place on Tour advisor sort of a site,…read moreso decided to explore it. Graffiti on the wall, great! But the area is so so. I read that the graffiti keeps changing with artists using it as an open gallery and lots of walls in and around have art on them, but the area needs to become something more clean ( a lottt more clean and inviting) and more... how do I put it, lets just say I would not venture there alone. The rising sun does make a great lighting for some interesting pics though.
