When I do, it's because of truly stellar service…read more My husband and I came to Michael Raff after 3 other accounting firms failed to help us solve a costly error made by the IRS and a previous accountant. The issue had been lingering since 2020 (2019 tax year). We tried numerous CPA firms and tax accountants. A few claimed they could help ultimately at significant cost to us, many told us to "forget about it". Last fall we decided this was a job for a tax attorney. I read reviews from every possible source trying to find a tax attorney with good reviews. Michael Raff's reviews were 100% great. I was suspicious of that many great reviews. I concluded that there were too many and too varied for the feedback to be fake. Not only that, he has a transparent and meticulous process for the way he bills and updates clients. Others before him pledged to keep us informed but only Michael proactively phoned us (and followed up with an e-mail) at the end of every month. The minimal retainer he asked for in order to work on this problem is still not used up. Michael was able to retrieve the money from the original error in LESS THAN SIX MONTHS, where other large, expensive firms had failed us for OVER 5 YEARS. He is still planning to retrieve money from the IRS on our behalf for the error adjacent money. We assumed he was a specialist only and worked as a dedicated tax attorney. Michael also does regualar tax preparation. It did not take much convincing to for us to engage him as our accountant. If you want an acccountant who is knowledgeable, dedicated, and ethical, I think you would be hard pressed to find someone more skilled than Michael Raff.

The screenshots confirms that our statements are factual. ************************************ After reading Kyle's response to my brother's review ("Junior E"), I felt it was important to share what I personally witnessed. The initial conversation went very well. Kyle came across as knowledgeable, professional, and confident. He took the time to discuss my brother's tax situation, explained a clear game plan, requested the necessary documents, and assured him that he would take care of the work. Based on those conversations, there was every reason to believe the tax returns were moving forward. Then the communication changed. I personally saw the text conversations where Kyle repeatedly made commitments such as, "I'll call you today," "I'll get your returns 100% completed tomorrow," and "Tomorrow I'll e-file your returns." After those commitments were made, my brother spent weeks sending follow-up texts and making phone calls simply trying to get updates, with little to no response. If there were legitimate IRS, documentation, or compliance concerns preventing the returns from being completed, that would have been understandable. A CPA should absolutely follow professional standards and should not file anything that does not meet those requirements. However, that was not what was communicated throughout this process. What I witnessed was a breakdown in communication, missed commitments, and a client repeatedly trying to get answers. According to my brother's experience, the refund was only issued after he stated that he would involve local law enforcement due to the lack of communication and inability to get a response. While I acknowledge that the refund was eventually provided, it does not erase the weeks of unanswered messages, missed commitments, and frustration that led up to that point. What concerns me further is that after reading other Yelp reviews, including reviews going back approximately nine months, I noticed similar concerns raised by other customers. Several reviews describe a similar pattern: a strong initial consultation, confidence that a plan was in place, payment and submission of information, followed by difficulty getting timely communication afterward. I can only speak to my family's experience, but seeing similar accounts from other customers was concerning and reinforced why I felt it was important to share what I personally witnessed. Anyone considering this firm should take the time to read both the customer reviews and the business responses and make their own informed decision. Based on what I personally witnessed regarding my brother's experience, I would not recommend KFN Accounting & Financial.
