With One Brick, you get your free sign up on their website (no spam ever) and you check the monthly calendar to RSVP to the events you're interested in. They cap off the number of volunteers according to how many are needed for each event. I appreciate this since I hate going to volunteer and standing around not contributing because there are too many cooks in the kitchen. My only qualm is that you can only sign up two weeks ahead of time for their events. I'd prefer to sign up for everything at the beginning of the month. But I assume they do this because it's rare for a NYCer to be able to commit more than two weeks out. Their method surely minimizes cancellations/no-shows. That being said, they're really awesome about understanding your need to cancel, even if it's last minute due to work or the unexpected. They also make it very easy for you to email the person in charge of your event in case you have questions or need to cancel.

The security person I talked to was helpful in making sure I got to the correct elevator bank. When I got to the proper floor, I then had to look for the venue (which took a little doing). I finally found a spot where some people were gathered and figured I was at the right place. I think some of the actual staff were there though I didn't have much interaction with them. Nobody bothered me. The space itself is very nice, certainly akin to a WeWork but more environmentally conscientious and more affordable rates. The WiFi worked well. It definitely felt like people properly maintain it though I can't speak on customer service aspects or use of office space or things of that nature.

I am a mentor at Children of Promise…read more Having done a lot of mentoring through various organizations in the past, I can say that COP is exceptionally diligent in their screening, training and matching of mentors and mentees, which exemplifies the care put into the program and how much they care about their scholars. They have a variety of programs sorted by age group, including after school tutoring and summer camp and put together all sorts of events for the scholars throughout the year. They often get donations of tickets to various experiences for the scholars. For those looking to volunteer or mentor, I cannot recommend COP enough. They are organized, thoughtful, and you really feel as though you're making an impact.

It happens to be the best one in NYC based on my highly biased interviewing of patients. Staff care on a level unseen at many other clinics. Even this clinic had a different attitude towards the clientele pre-Pandemic. Thanks to great leadership, the clinic became better than ever at handling challenges. The Pandemic provided an opportunity to study the success of more take-home services, which have had a profound effect on the lives of patients; and the information from the study is priceless.
