This past year my daughter attended community resources preschool in a 12-1-2 classroom. I cannot say enough nice things about the entire staff. They treated my child with such care. My daughter learned so much. Her social skills blossomed and she was so excited to show me what she learned each day. Her teachers kept me informed of her progress every step of the way. I now feel she is more then ready for kindergarten. I only wish this school went into the older grades. read more

Would give this pre school zero stars if I could. I have to concur with the other one star review posted two years ago. I am also an educator and Community Resources failed my daughter at every turn. The final straw was when my 4 year old daughter came home with BRUISES from being "restrained" because she was having an "outburst". No 4 year old should come home with a bruise because the staff is incapable of helping a child transition from one activity to another, especially a school that is designed for special needs children. Both my sons attended Community Resources for the 3 year old and Pre-K programs. One of my sons needed services and this school was recommended to us by the CPSE as a possible school. I would say as a parent go with your gut. I visited another school that was very shiny and looked nice, but had no warmth. As soon as I walked into CR Icould feel the warmth even though it was not as shiny and big as the other school. I have to say in both the general education and special classrooms, the teachers were extremely loving and kind. Both my boys really blossomed and were very happy. The principal was always available to talk on the phone or in person and I felt like she really listened to my concerns. For my son who received services, the speech, OT and PT teachers were wonderful and I received notes from each session they had with my son. They always called me back and helped me work through some challenging times with my son. The school psychologist was also extremely helpful especially when I was dealing with some challenging behaviors from my son at home. She worked with me one and one, I was able to come in and meet with her and she also started a weekly parent meeting at the school where any parent could come in and ask questions and talk. For my son who had services I have to say his turning point was in Pre-K with Ms. Anna. She really understands the needs of students and told me about a special program to apply for in Kindergarten for him that was a perfect fit for him. I am truly grateful for the impact she had on my son and she created an such an inclusive and accepting environment where he was able to blossom, grow and shine in his strengths. The school has a yearly art show which just blew my mind. I couldn't believe the amazing art the children created. They also have a special holiday and end of year program for parents as well as other opportunities to attend events in the classroom. For the cons I agree with the previous reviewers that the pick-up situation gets crowded because of the small parking lot, but that was one small con in a sea of positives. The classrooms are on the small side but again no place is perfect. I would recommend this school in a heartbeat to any parent. read more

What an amazing school. I cannot say enough about this school. Both of my daughters went here and they learned so much. My middle daughter had some delays and what an improvement after she had left. Teachers and staff are like family. I never had to worry about my kids while they went here. The director and teachers were always on top of everything. My daughters still talk about community resources and how much they miss their teachers and I can't blame them because I miss them going there and the care they were given. This school is the best, my kid had Early Intervention and the school was recommended by his therapists. My son has grown in all areas academically, socially, and emotionally. The principal Mrs. Josephine is great! She's very informative and a straight shooter which I really like. She keeps parents informed and has Art shows, music, and visitors that come to the school to teach the children. The school displays the children's classwork around the building. They have a buzz in door with a camera so your children are safe. They use the Remind App to send messages and pictures of your child's progress in school. My son's service providers increase his speech, fine and gross motor skills, eating variety, and physical coordination as well. Now, let's get to his teacher, Mrs. Amanda we will miss her dearly bc my son is going to kindergarten. This teacher went above and beyond for the kids in the classroom as well as my son. She would communicate as well as providers through a notebook daily or through remind. She gave suggestions or ask questions to better help our son. Mrs. Amanda has truly made an impact on my son's life. He comes home singing the states, days of the week, months, etc. She really has made learning fun through arts and crafts and music. The school has a garden where kids get to grow plants. My son is so excited to explain what he did everyday. This school is awesome!!! I know people won't believe this review bc there's just positive so here's 1 more positive and I will give you 2 negatives...last positive is they have morning and aftercare that's great because I work full-time. First negative, most parents like that the school is somewhat small bc it's like a small community. I agree but the classrooms are a little small but they make it work by having organized rooms. Last negative, is the parking lot is small so it's hard to pickup or drop off your kid. Small problem but they have a system that keeps from having traffic build up. Again this is an honest review of the school. I would highly recommend this school because they'll have your kid ready for kindergarten. We will miss this school dearly and will always come back to visit!!! read more

"We've never asked a child to leave..." These were the exact words the educational director Josephine of CR said to me on the tour of the school. My son attended Community Resources from January until mid March. I went on a tour, and I found the classrooms to be bright, cheerful and full of content. The director presented herself as knowledgeable and seasoned in regards to education as well as children with special needs. I was told that he would be in a supportive environment with frequent parent communication. I was also told that he had a difficult time transitioning into the room, and "help" was offered to him on only his second day. I was grateful for the support; however, I did find the intervention premature. However, I wanted to have an open mind and trust the process. I provided a communication notebook for my son's teacher where I was assured it would be written in once a week. However, it was only written in twice in 2 months, and the conversations were initiated by me. I spoke to the educational director in mid February and we discussed an appointment for an in house evaluation concentrating on speech. On March 9, I received a phone call regarding my son's behavior. He was exhibiting oppositional and aggressive behavior which was a complete shock to me. I was never made aware of ONE incident of this nature. The director informed me that there was consistent communication with my father at pick up each day he was there. This was not the case. My father always said, "They didn't say anything to me." So, I always figured no news was good news. During our phone call, the director wanted to move my son's evaluation to March 17. She also stated that my son belonged in a highly specialized program in a very restrictive setting. Being an educator, I knew that this was the wrong way to go about this. You never speak of placement prior to an evaluation or an individualized education plan meeting. There was no speak of possible setting events, antecedents or strategies put in place in order to regulate his behavior. Why wasn't a token economy system implemented? Any educator worth their salt would have tried this strategy first. If I would have know about what was happening in the room, I would have suggested and created one myself. After speaking with several people in the educational and social work field, who have spent time observing in CR, I was told that there is actually a HIGH TURNOVER of staff, and they never see the same teacher twice. The director has only been in her position minimum two years. During our phone conversation, she actually chuckled when reading the report and said, "I don't know if you want me to finish reading this...it's pretty bad." I got the impression that she enjoyed being abrupt and blunt. "Ideally I want his last day to be March 24." I found that statement odd since she's "never asked a child to leave." Her words sounded like that to me. Also, how would my son get a fair evaluation if his placement was already decided? The one positive I can say is that his teachers were incredibly kind and sweet to my son. I know they are not to blame as they were not given the proper guidance by someone who claims to have the experience that she has. My son began a new school in April. He is loved, supported and celebrated in his new environment. He also has not had one aggressive outburst in over 2 months. He was also evaluated on May 31, and after consulting with his teacher and psychologist performing the evaluation, it is recommended my son be placed in a general education UPK setting with speech and occupational therapy services along with a SEIT providing minimal support when needed. As a parent and an educator, I strongly suggest you DO NOT send your child to this school. The lack of communication and knowledge was wildly disappointing and incredibly upsetting. Never stop searching for the right fit for your child, we are their BEST advocates. read more
