This little theatre is a fantastic amenity for local culture vultures, of which there are an…read moreincreasing number. I've seen many well acted and thought-provoking plays here over the years. It's also worth travelling to from outside the area - the village of Carshalton is drop-dead gorgeous - real picture postcard stuff in its centre so make a day of it. The nearest rail station is Carshalton, although Carshalton Beeches and Wallington are not too far either. The earlier reviewer got the station details wrong by not mentioning the nearest station of all! There is a Thai restaurant (separate but within the same building).

Have you ever been to a theatre-in-the-round? I had not and admit that I'd not even known what…read morethat meant. Then I spent an evening at the Orange Tree Theatre and now I'm all in. What a fun way to experience a show. A theatre-in-the round is one with seating on all sides of the stage. In the case of the Orange Tree, the concept continues on the balcony level. with long bench-seating (with backs) and a padded rail to lay your elbows atop. I'd booked tickets in advance, on-line and arrived at my (2) balcony seats to find an envelope with my name hand written on it. When I opened I found a letter - also hand-written - thanking me for joining them and welcoming me. This was an unexpected delight. The show I saw was Noel Coward's "Suite in Three Keys" (excellent) and I wish I'd had more time to see the other two Coward plays they were staging (with the same cast). Seats here were comfortable and they appeared to have a devoted crowd of regulars. Those folks would know what I didn't though, so here's your warning: save your drinks until post-show. The way the seating is arranged on the balcony level there is no way to get out of your seat mid-performance to, say, use the restroom. Likewise, if you arrive late you'll not be able to get to your seats if they're in the middle of a balcony row. For these instances, they allow guests to watch the show via video screen from an alternate space. You've been warned. So save the drinks until later and arrive on time. The theatre-in-the-round experience is fun and Orange Tree Theatre offers a great overall experience.

Made a belated first visit to this theatre the other night after knowing of it for many years…read more I appreciated their understated approach from the moment you walk in, with welcoming staff and not too elaborate decor in the lobby/bar area. The seating is intimate and I also received the first-time-attendee welcome note (as another reviewer noted), which is an extra positive touch that will linger in my memory. The play offered strong commitment from the actors and an energetic staging in the round. I would definitely consider attending another show here if given the chance.

We have been several times to the Noel Coward Theater. It is in the Leicester Square theatre…read moredistrict and easy to find. The Importance of being Ernest was playing so we decided to see it. The theater is a classic British style. Several floors, bar areas and hard to find toilets. Corridors are narrow and you have to be able to climb stairs to get to most seats.Most seats offer a good view of the stage. My only disappointment was that they ran out of my preferred flavor of ice-cream at intermission!

I'm 5'2 and sat at stalls level row k seat 3; I had to sit stick-upright (no slouching) to get a good view of the stage in front of a man who looked to be over 6'. The seating has an old-school velvety feel to it.....didn't feel dirty and there was zero musk in the air so I'd say the place is cleaned up often enough. :p Decent seat legroom (economy-flight-legroom-tier) but space between seats isn't the greatest (saw many folks being elbow-to-elbow). Overall not a dealbreaker if there's a show that you want to see that's being held here (for me I watched The Comedy About Spies; fantastic show), but wouldn't say that you would be optimally comfortable while watching the show.

Seating for our show wasn't numbered. It looks like the seating arrangements can be moved around depending on the production. It's a small theatre, so sound wasn't an issue and great views all around. We were front centre, so we had a brilliant experience. There's a bar downstairs and they have washrooms. (Didn't use either) A word of warning, if your show ends late (10:15 on a Friday night), there's no place in walking distance to grab dinner later. So plan accordingly.

Uninspiring to look at from the outside, the inside, too, holds back on the glitz and glamour. A couple of soulless corridors link the box office to the bar and the auditorium. The Bridewell doesn't put on large scale productions, it's a small theatre largely used for am-dram performances and the shows of small theatre groups. The auditorium seats around 130 and is quite adaptable. Depending on what performance is being staged at the time the setup is versatile, the seating can be changed and moved around so as the "stage" can be more easily manipulated and configured to suit the director's desires. The problem with this performance space is that the stage/seating areas are separated from the 'backstage' area by curtains only. This means you'll often hear the theatre staff and stagehands shuffling about and working away. Not dreadful but still a distraction. The bar is downstairs and isn't altogether impressive. The air in the bar has a feel and smell to it as that of a damp, concrete storage basement - which is exactly what it is/was. Other events are held down here and a small number of artworks from numerous small-scale temporary exhibits are displayed too. As well as some larger agricultural equipment/furniture. I imagine this is because there just isn't anywhere else to put it, though. All in all, the Bridewell Theatre probably won't impress you but it's theatre's like this that are necessary for grassroots production and, depending on the particular production you see, of course, I'm sure you will find some enjoyment from your visit. Opening in Brighton, transferring to DoY, then touring - if its still on the road, its a must to see it you can My wife, being Danish, had never been to a pantomime, though she of course knew what it was about We thought, fat chance to get tickets now after that press...I tried and wow, 2 in the front row of the Dress Circle 5pm, on New Year's Eve. Its a great little theatre...the guys kept the queue moving and once inside it was easy to find loos, bars and seats...they did insist no glasses on the front row, plastic only - pretty sensible one would say. A great view from up there - probably the best seats, though frankly, I'm reckon you would get a good view from almost anywhere - the online chart showing seating available helps immensely when deciding It was a fantastic evening...yes, there were a few kids, but this was really one for the parents...you could tell with the exuberant not to say loud, contribution from the audience - everyone there was ready to participate, given the slightest chance This is a FUN evening with all the cast in good form, some excelling and I don't just mean the 2 leads. A few political asides, a few risque moments but basically it was a show to savour. The 3 musicians in the boxes were good too. It was probably a good thing they didn't invite anyone on the stage For me, the best performance came from Oscar Conlon-Morrey who literally threw himself into the part as Jack, the son. The theater is much smaller than other Broadway and West End theaters I've visited - with only 600-ish seats. That made it intimate and special for this play. We sat in the first row of the Royal/Dress Circle, and the seats and the view of the stage were excellent. There was a bar and bathrooms on that level - everything we needed for a great evening of theater. The location is great - plenty of options for a pre-theater dinner. And the theater is beautiful inside and puts on some great productions! I'd love to return.

I went after my first night in town, and it was so good that if someone offered me a ticket to see it again, I'd say, "I'm down." I was really puzzled by how they got the car to flip all the way around. Some of the songs are still stuck in my head. I even sing them right before going to bed. I'm so glad I saw this show. It felt like a gift wrapped up in a bow.

This production is outstanding! We saw Back to the Future, Cabaret and Crazy for You this trip. I can't compare the three since all of them are completely different but I highly recommend this show for something fun and casual. You will not be disappointed. This is also a very family friendly show, the kids in the theatre seemed to enjoy it even if they aren't an 80s baby like me :) Very fun time! Can't ever do theatre in London without ice-cream at intermission, it's mandatory for me. This theatre doesn't have vegan options as our Cabaret production did but I'm consistently on mint chip as a little intermission refresher. If you get tix and haven't seen the movie in awhile I think it'd be fun to watch it first. I didn't have a clue about the movie since it's been forever since I've seen it, but still had a blast - so many laughs and so enjoyable.

From the cozy seats to the easy access in, the Apollo is a gem. We would absolutely go there again as our experience was tops. The architecture is beautiful. It is a great little cosy place to enjoy a show. On this occasion, the theatrical act 'Punch' was a powerful and critically acclaimed play based on a true story of Jacob Dunne, a young man whose impulsive "one punch" assault outside a pub resulted in the death of James Hodgkinson. The play is fundamentally about the journey through Restorative Justice (RJ). The core of Punch centers on what happens after the conventional justice system has run its course--Jacob is convicted of manslaughter and serves a prison sentence. The most dramatic and moving part of the play is the meeting that takes place between Jacob and the victim's parents, Joan and David Hodgkinson, at their instigation through a restorative justice program.
