They have a 2 week trial policy for their adoptions. If you spend time with a dog, like him/her,…read morefill out the application and somehow prove you're not going to sell the dog to some animal testing facility or dog fighting ring, you can take the dog home for 2 weeks and they'll hold your fee check. If, after the 2 weeks, it doesn't work out, you can hang your head low and bring the dog back. Worst case -- the dog wonders WTF happened but at least you got the dog out of a cage for 2 weeks. That way, if it doesn't work out, you don't panic and take him/her to a kill shelter where they'll kill him/her because they happen to be overcrowded that day. Seriously. I like that Noah's B'Ark rescues dogs from shelters. It sucks that they don't take dogs from Lake County because I know they're desperate for help, but Noah's does take dogs from other shelters in the area, and in general I think that's an absolutely HEROIC thing to do. Especially since there are so many dogs out there who DO get euthanized due to overpopulation in shelters. A lot of the dogs that come to Noah's are placed in foster homes and their foster parents work with them on behavior, potty training, overcoming anxiety, etc. I've talked with Rawna several times, as well as a few of the foster parents who were at Petsmart on the weekends. It really seems like these people love the animals and want them to be okay. That's another thing I love about this place. They bring some of the adoptable animals to Petsmart in Rohnert Park on Saturdays and Sundays from 12 to 4pm. It gives the animals exposure, and the reps from Noah's are always there to answer questions. I'd definitely recommend going there to meet the animals and fill out an application (or fill one out online before hand -- it's quicker!) if you're thinking of adopting a dog. They have puppies and purebreds if that's your thing! Yay!

You should never buy a puppy from a retailer. These puppies have their origins in puppy mills…read more(breed enthusiasts will never sell to a retailer) and will not have had the right care and attention a small puppy needs in order to flourish. There is no way of knowing their background or health. A recent study has shown that such puppies are more likely to be aggressive, and by purchasing them you are perpetuating the puppy mill system which causes great distress to animals. I rescued a "puppy" from Noah's B'Ark and had the worst experience. Aggressiveness signs showed up right away and we wanted to give the puppy back after trying for months! We left endless voicemails and we never got one call back! Don't be tempted to buy a puppy from outside a pet supermarket or any other kind of store! Reputable breeders do not provide puppies in this way, and no reputable dog breeder would ever have to sell puppies through pet shops.

Now that it's been about a year since I adopted the furry little white rat in my user pic from this…read morerescue, it's about time I write them a review. North Star Rescue is a small animal rescue based in Santa Rosa that rescues rats, mice, hamsters, chinchillas, bunnies, and guinea pigs. They keep the address and phone number of the rescue a secret (primarily because it's the private home for a couple of people who run it), but if you e-mail them from their website and plan to come to adopt they will send you the address in an e-mail and a contact phone number. They also have adoption hubs at RabbitEARS in Kensington (where I met up with them, since I was in Berkeley at the time), Andy's Pet Shop in San Jose, a private home in Danville, and Sonoma Pet Shop in Sonoma. Basically, adopting from them is very convenient if you're somewhere in the bay area. I had a great experience adopting my rat from North Star Rescue. Lauren, the head of adoptions, knows the animals well and will work with you to find a small animal that will best fit your lifestyle and needs. They do ask you to show you have an adequately-sized cage and have you sign an adoption contract (that you won't breed and will return the pet if you can no longer care for it), but they aren't one of those annoying rescues that performs extensive, intrusive background checks and questionnaires that make you feel violated, nor are they one of those rescues that turns most people down for silly reasons. Instead, they work to educate people so they can adopt. I was given ample time to play with all the available pet rats and choose my favorite, and Lauren and her helpers were very nice and friendly when I was choosing my rat. They were upfront about any special needs each pet might have and did not pressure me at all. My rat ended up only costing me $10, which is an amazing deal considering he'd been neutered, treated for mites, gotten other medical treatment, and been living on North Star Rescue food and bedding for 6 months. One year later, he remains my awesome old man rat companion. Thanks North Star Rescue! I'd definitely adopt from them again if I wanted a small critter again in the future.

I tried to adopt a dog from there and they want you to sign a contract and put down a non refundable deposit on a dog that I can't even see before they want to take my money. and after I decide to take a chance on adopting a dog without even seeing the dog I tried numerous times to contact them so I could put the dog on hold and they never answered the phone or emailed me back for 2 days only to tell me that they already had somebody else put a hold on the dog I wanted. I also checked the other reviews from other websites like better business bureau and a few other sites and heard some very bad reviews from all aboard animal rescue to include other people stating that after they already put a deposit on animals that when they went to pick up animals that they were not the same animal that was posted on their website and also some animals had serious disease such as parvo and other life threatening conditions and all aboard animal rescue would not refund their money or help them. I should have listened to all the bad reviews about all aboard animal rescue and had nothing to do with them. I definitely don't recommend anyone to purchase anything from them. they also want you to sign a blank ticket so they can charge your credit cards later if you don't comply with all of their unrealistic contract conditions

We feel that we were treated with absolute disrespect, and previous reviews of AA indicate that we are not alone in our dissatisfaction. I commend All Aboard for taking on the work of rescuing dogs- it's a challenging endeavor to say the least. But other organizations manage to meet the same goals with integrity, honesty, and kindness. After giving up on AA, it didn't take long for us to find the dog of our dreams through Animal House rescue. If you are looking for a sweet dog and don't want to play AA's game, I highly recommend Animal House!

Pros - there were a lot cats Cons - every cat was pretty much asleep. 4 employees pretty much ignored us the whole time except one girl who made the most minimal effort to help us. Since you can't pick up the cats, you need them to bring a cat to you, esp if they are sleeping. I asked and she said the cats were most active when they open a at 12pm. I am not a cat owner so only in hindsight does that make sense. But then why are they open 2 hours later after they are all tired out? Another girl came over after 20 min and said our time was almost up. We stayed 10 more minutes, on principle. I felt bad for the kiddos. They are very easy going so they seemed ok but I was annoyed at the whole experience. We'd been looking forward to it for a long time and had had a positive experience at the one in Palo Alto previously. Will not come back.

They were so friendly with both people and other cats that they had no problem getting right into chasing rainbow-worm and feather-stick toys. There's a mesh pen off to the side for cats that are still acclimating to the environment but even those cats accepted gentle pets without issue. The staff was very friendly and would allow me and my friend to hold cats that they knew were snuggle bugs (the staff picked up the cat and put it in our arms - picking up the cats on your own is against the rules!) Even though their food and litter were out in the open, there was no smell which is impressive given how many cats were sharing the space! The price was very reasonable for the quality of the experience and it's obvious these cats are looked after well. I would love to visit their other locations some time and consider adopting from here!
