Not sure if that's poop but very unsanitary
    Jessica R.

My daughter and I came to this place today and was very concerned for the wellbeing of the kittens. I noticed the litter boxes were not cleaned and it smell awful inside. The couches had poop, stains and throw up. All the employees are on their phones 24/7. Not one employee is cleaning or organizing this place. It looks like it's not even cleaned daily which is sad for kittens that are rescued. One cat jumped over the gate into the area where clients come in to check in and the employee with blonde short hair took the kitten and put in the room and left the kitten inside? I believe they are leaving the cats in closed rooms unsupervised!

Petty Jerry a very friendly, chill kitty who tolerated kids well.

I love the idea of this place; a cat adoption center/ cat petting business. When we went there weren't many cats but they could have been hiding from my toddler which is fair enough. lol! For a cat rescue it was very clean and fresh smelling. The volunteers were very nice, helpful and patient. All the cats seemed happy, healthy and well cared for. We plan to go back bc my daughter is obsessed with cats but we can't adopt one RN so this is the perfect place to bring her to get her kitty fix in.

    Cats here are cute!

Do you like cats? Are you looking for a cat? Can you not get a cat but really want to pet a cat? If you answered yes to any of these questions you will probably enjoy Mini Cat Town. It's probably one of the most relaxing times you can have as a cat person. The cats are generally up for some petting and play time and I have seen particularly honored guests have multiple cats in their lap at the same time. All of the cats seem super friendly and playful. Staff is generally knowledgeable and friendly.

As I walked into the lounge, I walked into heaven. I immediately became a kitty-magnet, with all the kitties surrounding me. There were many kitties of many sizes and colors. Some orange, some black, some tabby, all the colors of the rainbow. There was even a kitty with the cone, but ended up being the sweetest. They also let you adopt here! This is my happy place. Will come again.

Cat in cat town. This one is a little shy.

Walked by and saw inside so cute and I can tell the cats are living a genuinely good life and are happily playing/sleeping.

Weird vibes. The cats are cute and nice but the volunteers watch you like a hawk and are kind of strange. Not sure I'd come back.

I understand people don't show up to appointments, but charging the full amount is not only absurd, it shows the organization doesn't care if the dog and the adopter are not a good fit. IE the dogs welfare is not being prioritized.

Now that it's been about a year since I adopted the furry little white rat in my user pic from this…read morerescue, it's about time I write them a review. North Star Rescue is a small animal rescue based in Santa Rosa that rescues rats, mice, hamsters, chinchillas, bunnies, and guinea pigs. They keep the address and phone number of the rescue a secret (primarily because it's the private home for a couple of people who run it), but if you e-mail them from their website and plan to come to adopt they will send you the address in an e-mail and a contact phone number. They also have adoption hubs at RabbitEARS in Kensington (where I met up with them, since I was in Berkeley at the time), Andy's Pet Shop in San Jose, a private home in Danville, and Sonoma Pet Shop in Sonoma. Basically, adopting from them is very convenient if you're somewhere in the bay area. I had a great experience adopting my rat from North Star Rescue. Lauren, the head of adoptions, knows the animals well and will work with you to find a small animal that will best fit your lifestyle and needs. They do ask you to show you have an adequately-sized cage and have you sign an adoption contract (that you won't breed and will return the pet if you can no longer care for it), but they aren't one of those annoying rescues that performs extensive, intrusive background checks and questionnaires that make you feel violated, nor are they one of those rescues that turns most people down for silly reasons. Instead, they work to educate people so they can adopt. I was given ample time to play with all the available pet rats and choose my favorite, and Lauren and her helpers were very nice and friendly when I was choosing my rat. They were upfront about any special needs each pet might have and did not pressure me at all. My rat ended up only costing me $10, which is an amazing deal considering he'd been neutered, treated for mites, gotten other medical treatment, and been living on North Star Rescue food and bedding for 6 months. One year later, he remains my awesome old man rat companion. Thanks North Star Rescue! I'd definitely adopt from them again if I wanted a small critter again in the future.
