I brought Indica to Animal Hospital of Sebastopol because I specifically wanted an experienced reptile veterinarian for a federally threatened species. Before scheduling, I asked how the urgent drop-off process worked and was told I would receive updates during the day regarding the doctor's findings and treatment recommendations. I also asked to make sure the vet felt comfortable treating a rare & valuable species. When I dropped him off, I explained that I work in healthcare as a medical receptionist and cannot answer phone calls while checking in patients. I specifically told the staff I would be available during my lunch break from 12:20-1:20 p.m. and asked that, outside of that window, they leave me a voicemail or send me a text if they needed anything. Instead, I received no communication at all. By around 4:15 p.m., I became worried enough to step away from work while a coworker covered my desk so I could call the hospital. I was placed on hold multiple times, transferred between staff members, and no one could tell me whether my snake had even been seen. My frustration was never that emergency patients came first. I understand triage. My frustration was the complete lack of communication despite being told I would receive updates and despite providing multiple ways to reach me. I was also charged for sexing my snake without anyone telling me beforehand there would be an additional fee. That charge was only removed after I questioned it. When I spoke with Dr. Annabelle, I repeatedly told her that I appreciated her fitting my snake into her schedule and understood emergency patients came first. I was never asking her to stop treating another patient. However, when I expressed concerns about the lack of communication and told her I did not believe this was simply a bad shed, I felt dismissed. The conversation focused on how she sees approximately 15 patients a day, that she couldn't interrupt anesthetized procedures for a stable snake, that this is how urgent drop-off appointments work, and that she texted me "when she could." The problem was that the text wasn't sent until after I had already called the hospital because I was worried and couldn't get answers from anyone. Afterward, I emailed the practice manager. The billing discrepancy was corrected, but I had to follow up separately just to obtain my snake's records. I was then told they felt I should seek another veterinary hospital. As Indica's condition worsened, I emailed Animal Hospital of Sebastopol again asking for medical guidance because Dr. Annabelle was the only veterinarian who had physically examined him. I explained that I had followed the treatment plan exactly and desperately needed to know whether what I was seeing was expected. That email was never answered. I ultimately had to make the heartbreaking decision to euthanize Indica. The day after he was gone, UC Davis called asking my permission to send his records to Animal Hospital of Sebastopol because AHOS had requested them. It was devastating to learn they had time to contact another veterinary hospital regarding my snake's case while never responding to my final plea for help. I later received a second opinion from UC Davis, where I was informed that the original diagnosis from Animal Hospital of Sebastopol was not the correct diagnosis, just as I had predicted. Based on my experience, I would never trust Animal Hospital of Sebastopol with another exotic animal. If you own an exotic pet and your instincts tell you something isn't right, don't be afraid to seek a second opinion. I only wish I had done so sooner.

I love Sebastopol, the office is so cozy with trees all around it, a very peaceful pleasant setting. Right off the main road with a plentiful parking lot. The office was on the smaller side but not crowded at all. Most importantly the staff was great all very warm and friendly to my dog and me. Seemed knowledgeable, I really wouldn't know since I am not knowledgeable in veterinary medicine. We were in and out pretty quickly after a check up with some flea and heart worm meds and a follow up appointment for one more vaxx.

I informed Petpals that i had to work to pay for dog food and my mortgage but it seems that the magic word is I WORK FROM HOME or I'M RETIRED. This does not seem to be fair to normal people that need to work. The little dog i wanted to adopt would have been the luckiest dog in the county and would have been treated like a little prince had they given him to me. I scheduled and canceled Ollie's euthanasia appointment four different times because I just wasn't ready, and they never once made me feel guilty or pressured. They even allowed me to arrive and then back out when I couldn't go through with it. That level of kindness and humanity is something I will never forget. When the time finally came, they gave Ollie such a peaceful, dignified passing, and gave me the space and support I needed. I also want pet owners to be aware that many veterinary clinics today are owned by VCA Animal Hospitals, which is part of Mars Corp. the same company behind well-known candy brands. Since that corporate takeover, many practices have become more expensive with vets and staff paid commissions on what procedures they sell! Wine Country Veterinary Hospital is independent and not owned by VCA/Mars, and it truly shows not only in their fair pricing, but in the genuine, heartfelt care they give. Anything I expected. Everyone was so nice. The receptionist was super sweet and very patient. The amount of care they gave to my dog was phenomenal and they generally care about the animals you take there. I felt that all my questions were answered. And they took their time to talk to me. I didn't feel rushed and most importantly I felt like I got all my answers that I needed. All the staff was extremely sweet and very knowledgeable and very patient with my dog. We noticed a foxtail sticking out of my dog's butthole and as we were trying to snatch it out it vanished. She had also been having some pretty bad sneezing attacks as well. We called our vet who was booked solid for over a month and then started calling every emergency vet we could find. Most were 24 - 48 hour waits. When we called Redwood Veterinary they explained to us that they become an emergency vet at 6pm and to call back then after they have switched over. We were also told that wait times stack up to 8 hours by 6:30. My wife and I sat in the parking lot and started dialing at the stroke of 6. It was like trying to win one of those radio contests. I got placed on hold while my wife got busy signal after busy signal. However we got in and got seen in half an hour. They not only removed a foxtail from my rottweiler's rectum, but also from her nose as well. We are very grateful that we caught this in time and had our baby taken care of so well.

She also developed "cuddle cups" the practice -- so instead of my old girl being chilly on a towel or whatever, she is transported, "stored," and dropped back off to me surrounded by a soft, gathered, portable kitty bed of sorts. I LOVE THAT & bought one to take home (all my cats LOVE them & the gathers instead of the hard sides make them easy to get in to for my very old kitty). She's barely left me all morning and as I write this, she lays curled up next to me on the couch. Ava is a joy in my life, and I often wonder how I was so lucky to end up with such an affectionate, playful, intelligent animal. She sleeps with me every night, and goes to bed when I do. She comes when I call, no matter where she is in the house or what she's doing. She warns me of visitors by standing alert and growling if anyone is at the door. Although she loves people, he's protective like a dog. She easily walks on a harness, and has learned that the harness and collar mean we're going outside, so she stands still and lets me put them on her. She plays games, loves canvas bags, makes the most adorable murder face if I hide half my face and stare at her. To break eye contact is to invite death from above. This cat adapted to car rides within a couple weeks of trial and error, and now will hop into a vehicle if someone holds the door open for her. She went on her first airplane ride (in-cabin) last month and aside from some crying at take off, was surprisingly well behaved without benodryl or other sedatives. All I used was a few spritzes of Feliway in her carrier. She didn't have any accidents, either, for the entire 8 hour commute. In fact, she came to us fully litter box trained and has never had an incident of going where she wasn't supposed to. As for size and markings, she looks so kitten-like and tiny to me, but according to United Airlines, as of last month, she weighs 12 pounds though she's incredibly lean. Then I see her next to a regular cat and realize she's huge. Her markings are lovely. She gets complements from random passers-by on a regular occasion. The most common question I get is if she's one of "those wild breeds". While Kelly makes no promises, I am allergic to cats. Horribly, horribly allergic, but Ava has never caused me so much as a sniffle. She slept nearly on my face when she was a baby, and not once did I ever wake up with itchy eyes or trouble breathing. As a breeder, Kelly has been fantastic. She met us halfway, in San Francisco, to pick up our new kitten, and a few months later when she attended a cat show in my home town, she texted me to let me know and invite me to meet up.
