Walked into Competitive Gear in search of new panniers and rack. Stood by display while clerk was chatting with a customer who then left. Neither clerk or person in bike repair center seemed interested in my business and neither offered to help. I ended up walking out of store and buying Topeak Panniers on Amazon for $155 which could have been business for Competitive Gear. This is my go to store for anything bicycle: bikes, advice, repairs, accessories. We've purchased at least four bikes here, and they have all been wonderful. The owner and staff are always friendly and helpful, and they've serviced our bikes with skill and professionalism. They know bikes, and they know how to keep them going. If you want a new bike, the staff uses their expertise to help you choose an appropriate one, fit it to you, and service it to go out the door. It's a great place to meet other cyclists too. Often there is a fun conversation between folks. If you have questions or want recommendations for routes in the area, or group rides the staff can help you. Great place. read more

I have some experience with bikes and cycling. I came here for a quick fix that I couldn't do at home and my normal bike shop was too far away to get to after work. They were annoyed that I didn't buy the part in question from the store, which I understand to an extent, and told me he would have to charge me. Again, totally fine with me. I should have asked how much. He ended up charging me a lot for what ended up being a 5-10 minute job. He also made a comment about my degree of fitness!! I'm in decent shape, so I thought that was pretty inappropriate, although honestly that's inappropriate to say to anyone under any circumstance. read more

Love this place! My boyfriend and I each bought Trek hybrid bikes at Competitive Gear and couldn't be happier. They offer free tune ups if you buy your bike there. Have taken mine in several times for tuning and they always take it straight in with no appointment. Good as new in 10 minutes. Would recommend them to anyone. read more

Took in a hybrid bike my brother put together for me. He rides competitively, and builds his own bikes...I got nothing but lameness, from this shop. Since the bike was sent to me from San Diego, all I needed was for them to look it over. My husband already assembled it.. they wanted to charge me big bucks for this... The owner was obnoxious and condescending. He kept saying"I don't care", when I told him the bike was special to me.. and my brother knew what he was doing...All anyone there could do was complain about the bikes configuration. Finally after a week, I called to see if it was ready, only to be told they couldn't do anything with it... Said they tried to call me... No messages on my phone... They couldn't even be bo thered to inflate the front tire, and the chain which was only meant to be on a small wheel, was put on a larger outer one, which would have damaged the detailer had I used it that way... While on the phone with them, I heard them make a really derogatory remark about my bike... How extremely disappointing!! I was so thrilled with my bike and the wonderful gift my brother had given me.... This shop tried their best to ruin that for me... If I could give them a lower rating, I would... read more

Just started to experience annoying issues with my bike. I dropped the bike at competive gear for repair and, even though they were very busy, they pledge to have it tuned in two days. Exceeding their pledge they had my bike ready the next morning! As I've come to expect their masterfull work and speedy service made me again love my bike again!!! I am a mechanic and traveling tour leader who stopped in to pick up some parts. I was treated rudely, and felt that it was because I am a woman asking for things like brake housing. I was then insulted by one of the employees, who walked away questioning my gender...The female employee almost stepped in and backed me up, but even then, not really. I would have walked out, but I just needed some stupid housing. Customer service is the backbone of any quality business, and I have had two negative encounters with this shop. I will take my business elsewhere. read more

I bought a bike here almost 15 years ago. I have had it serviced there over the years and have also picked the brains of the always helpful staff. Great looking store, awesome inventory, knowledgeable staff, and there were a couple of beautiful dogs hanging out...making the atmosphere even more friendly.
