I've visited Composition ID on Kirby twice--once a few years ago for my own DEXA scan, and more recently for my son--and both experiences were excellent. Scheduling online was incredibly easy, and they require a $39 deposit up front, with the remainder paid after the testing. The location is convenient, with a connected parking garage that had plenty of open spaces both times we visited. We didn't have to wait at all. There was zero wait time on both occasions, and the facility itself is clean, modern, and comfortable. Both my son and I had DEXA scans, and he also had his RMR measured. The tests were quick and efficient, and afterward, they printed out the results and went over them with us in detail. They were more than happy to answer our questions, and if they weren't 100% sure of something, they took the time to find the answer rather than give a vague response. We also received digital copies of our results by email, which is great for keeping track of progress. The staff is friendly, helpful, and professional. The pricing is in line with other places in Houston, and actually better than some. If you're looking for a DEXA scan or RMR test in Houston, I highly recommend Composition ID on Kirby. Great service, but customer service needs to be improved... I had a body scan about two weeks ago. I loved it so much that I showed my body scan to everyone at work. I was raving about the services so much that many of my co-workers thought I worked for the company or was getting referral fees! I e-mailed the company to see about scheduling body scans for several of my co-workers. No response. I re-sent the e-mail the next day, but still no response. I thought maybe their e-mail service wasn't working, so I contacted them via FB Messenger a week later. I finally got a response which stated that they've answered all of my e-mails. I screenshotted the two unanswered e-mails to them. They said it was an oversight but was completely unapologetic. As much as I loved the body scan, customer service is very important to me. I can't support a company that can't even bring themselves to say something like "Sorry for the oversight" or "Sorry we overlooked your e-mail". read more

This place and Malissa are AMAZING! I am on a weight loss journey and wanted a Dexascan to measure my body fat %, lean muscle mass, bone density, etc. I had one done about 3 years ago at a major Houston hospital, and it was not nearly as informative as the one I just had at Composition ID. I love that you can schedule and pay (if you choose) online - super simple and easy. I was able to get my mother and myself an appointment for the same day and within 30 minutes of one another. My mother needed to know her bone density composition as her doctor was concerned and my mom's insurance was being stubborn about paying/approving for her to have another one done. Did I mention that the cost here at Composition ID is about 1/5 the cost of the one hospital I went to? I recently called the same hospital I had mine done at to get a price for my mom and it was over $500 (without insurance coverage). Once I saw the pricing at this place, I booked without hesitation. The office is well maintained, clean and free parking. Once my mom and I had our scans, Malissa reviewed the information with us, gave us hard copies, and emailed us copies. She does offer tailored services to help you reach your goal, but we didn't take advantage of that at the time. I will definitely be back in about 6 months to see how things have changed as I continue to move towards my weight loss goal. Malissa makes you feel at ease and is very personable. Composition ID is hands down the best place in Houston...better yet the USA...to get the MOST ACCURATE numbers to quantify my body! I committed to my health to live the best life I can live and I know making an investment in myself...health really is wealth. How do you measure health? I have done other body composition tests (measurements, hydro/float, etc.) So when I started my health investment journey...I got my scan as part of their 30 Day Challenge program. Had two procedures done here, and was very happy with the outcomes. Went to schedule a third, and was taken aback by the recent price increase. This kind of measurement has to be done repeatedly over time, preferably with the same machine and operator. Now considering a Bod Pod measurement, at less than 1/2 the cost, bearing in mind the results can't be compared with a dexascan. Bod pod scans are cheap enough to do repeatedly. read more

Got a scan done here in 2019. Place was clean and the employees were very nice. Overall a good experience but minus one star because when you schedule an appointment for Saturday, I think it's important that you're told the elevator in their building won't work for visitors bc it's outside normal business hours. I was stuck downstairs and had to call. Seems like basic info to communicate upfront if you know that's going to be an issue for Saturday appts. Hopefully that's something they've changed in the time since. In any event, the scan offered useful info and I will use this place again if I feel the need for another one. read more

I came in for a follow up from my first scan 3 months ago and see the value in these reports. I really didn't want to see what my new numbers were like but after the scan, Malissa asked what I did and gave me a high five. My numbers showed progress with an increase in my muscle mass. What was extremely eye opening and tale telling is that my imbalances of my legs and trunk were out of whack. My legs were already slightly imbalanced regarding the muscle mass and fat distribution and I was conscious of that but completely forgot about it when I went spinning last month. There was a strong correlation. I was using my dominant right leg more and overcompensating on the bike. Anyways all of this was useful insight in helping me determine what type of exercises or fitness my body needed as I'm currently assessing which activities to let go or continue pursuing as part of my lifestyle. Malissa can do so much with the data that's collected and can help analyze and determine what are causal effects of certain exercises and even diets. This area is a huge opportunity and I hope her business will capitalize on that. Malissa is opening full time in August!! There's still misperceptions floating around with dexa scans and it's experiences like mine that help break them and help increase awareness. Whenever I shared with my friends I got a dexa scan, they gave me funny looks and asked what was wrong with my bones or told me only only grandma's and grandpa's got those done. Many athletes and body builders also benefit from these scans. Overall, get one of these done. It's helpful to be aware of your body, understand what's working and what's not with your fitness and diet regime. You can also analyze your own trends and record progress. The services that Composition ID offers will start breaking through in the fitness industry and the reports will become an essential part of tracking your progress. read more

A year ago I decided to visit Composition ID to get my baseline measurements to begin my weight loss journey. The scan fits a certain body width so most of my left arm was not able to be scanned...to give you an idea that I was somewhat over-sized. After the first scan was completed then Malissa sat down with me and reviewed all my measurements. She provided some targets and goals that I should consider attaining for my next visit. Well a year later my results showed that I had lost 43lbs overall, close to 7% body fat and most importantly about 3lbs of visceral fat. Awesome service at a great price! I started going to Composition ID as soon as it opened here in Houston. I had been looking for a place for myself and clients to get DEXA scans for a while, but I couldn't find anything under about $200. On my first visit the owner Malissa walked me through the process and explained the results of my scan to me with great detail. I have since returned for several DEXA scans and metabolic rate tests. I have also have referred multiple clients so that we can track their progress as they work toward their goals. This is such a great tool to use for finding out what is really going on with your body without having to rely solely on a scale or the mirror. Scans are a little pricey when compared to other forms of body composition testing, but after my first scan this weekend....definitely worth the money. Headed to my appointment today there was a lot of different emotions happening. I was nervous, scared, happy, excited and so many others. This is something that I've been researching and looking at getting done for months. When I arrived Malissa was there greeting me with a big warm smile and it brought such a big sense of relief.
