I explained, on the phone, to both technicians at both companies what the issue was. One company helped fix it in minutes, and Downtown Computers wanted me to bring my computer in, with a $40 deposit, they MIGHT be able to fix the problem, no guarantees. I was disappointed at their unwillingness to offer up even the simplest of advice as opposed to having to bring in my computer in for what amounted to be the simplest of problems, albeit, one I couldn't fix. I understand that they are a business after all, and must stay in business in a very competitive field, but c'mon already!. A lot of people are probably very happy with their service, and they've served the Orillia area for quite a while, but I was let down by my experience.

My father was present during the interaction. The business also advertises "free estimates" on its website and does not clearly disclose diagnostic pricing. I would recommend that customers confirm all fees in writing before leaving their device.

I went to Best Buy because I was having trouble moving my photos from my phone to my computer. They…read moresuggested a part and the girl said there were no other options. It cost $104 plus tax. At first I thought that was kind of pricy so I looked around a few other places and finally went back and picked it off the shelf. I got the wrong one. It had an attachment for an older IPhone, so a third time back, that's on me. I got back and gave the part and the receipt and torn up package to the girl at the cash register. She a guy over who was apparently a manager of the section, at least that's what he eventually said to me. He said the end that goes into the computer was broken or not right or whatever and I said, I never even used that end, just the part that goes into the phone. He went in the back and came out with the part now in two pieces and told me he wouldn't be able to honor the refund because apparently I broke it. I argued for a minute and he said to me "Your saying it came from the factory broken like this?" I said I guess so, I never broke it. So now, I am out $104 (plus tax) and have been accused of breaking something I barely touched. Suffice to say, I will not be back.
