Yes, like other reviews state, they ask for a diagnostic fee up front that is applied to the cost of any repairs. This is to protect themselves from people who would get the recommendation and decide against the repairs, either because it's not worth it, or they feel they can do it themselves. The business has to cover the cost of the time and knowledge of the technician to make the diagnosis and research the cost of parts and labor to make the repairs. There's a lot to keep a great resource like this in town and available to us when we need them. Otherwise, we'd just have the GeekSquad and whoever they happen to be able to hire to stand behind the desk. How good are they? Well, that depends. Not so with Lynchburg Computer Systems. They live and work right here. They are committed business people, meaning they care about their reputation. They're not a fly-by-night outfit hopping from one town to the next every time they burn bridges. They use industry best practices. They operate fairly for everyone involved. He also informed me of the $10 diagnosis charge which i thought was very fair. He messaged my Bfs number in about an hour, said it wasn't the battery it was the screen and gave me two options, a more reasonable priced one and a more expense one. Appreciated the options. When I came back to pick the phone up, the store was pretty busy, but he recognized me right away and had my phone ready to go. Ken answered my Yelp request for services quickly and was able to schedule a service call for me…read morefor the next working day. He texted me his eta and arrived promptly on time. He spent a good bit of time trying to get my laptop to boot up and eventually removed the hard drive and battery to take them to his home workshop so he could retrieve my info and put it on my thumb drive. He rang me in the evening to say that sadly the hard drive was corrupt and couldn't be accessed. The battery had begun to bow upward, so it was a goner too. In his opinion the 7 year old machine wasn't worth fixing because at that age things would just keep going wrong. Kinda like a used car. In the end he didn't charge me a penny because he wasn't able to fix my machine! How often does that happen?!!
