Here is my experience with computer jock. First let me say I have been going to this place for a few years now, but things have changed so beware! I had a virus in my PC, I called and made an appointment to bring in the PC, the owner said he will be away, but John can help you when you come in. So I bring PC in to drop off. First thing John said how about we replace the hard drive it will make is so much faster, I said no need for more speed it work just fine for me just clean it and if it easier just dump everything because I don't use it for anything important. Ok he said no problem. A few days later I call to find out about the time/day it might be ready, John said still working on it but I de recomend a new hard drive it will make so much faster. No thank you just clean it please. He said ok. Two days later he calls me and said I ran a diagnostic on your computer. I think your hard drive is damaged. I said but the hard drive was working fine. He said yes but it will go soon, maybe 2 days or maybe 2 months you really should replace now and it will make it faster as well, I said really! So how much will this now cost, He said now your bill will be up to $278 with the new hard drive. I said maybe I should just buy a new cheap computer because I don't really use it that much. He said but this one will be so much better than getting a new one. I'm thinking now this guy is scamming me. But at this point I might as well just pay the $278 and move on. But wait, there more, I stop in to pick it up and now the bill is $380, I say John you said it was $278, he said I didn't charge you for the diagnostic. (remember I never asked for a diagnostic) So, the moral of this story is, GO TO THIS SHOP AND BEND OVER. John at computer joke is right be hide you. read more

I had a Toshiba laptop fixed and we bought a Lenovo PC tower while we were there. The price of the Lenovo was very competitive, great deal. The laptop repair took a couple weeks but the rep was very communicative through the entire process. Just had a phone call with this business, and they were totally uncooperative and unhelpful. I have an older iMac I am rebuilding and I was hoping for -- and willing to pay for -- some knowledgeable guidance and perhaps a part or two. Instead, the person I spoke to refused to give any information, claiming that "if we told people how to repair their own computers, we would be out of business." (Really? Is repairing computers so easy that if your secrets got out no one would pay for your services anymore because they'd all be doing it themselves?) Furthermore, he would not even attempt to look up a price for a very specific part for my machine. He just kept repeating "you have to bring it in and pay the diagnostic fee." He also insinuated that I didn't know what I was talking about -- when I said I was hoping for some answers to specific questions, he replied "customers' specific questions are always more general than they realize." If you just want to drop off your computer and pay them what they ask, maybe this is your place. It seems that their business model is to charge customers a standard price ($65 diagnostic fee and $90 per hour plus parts) and keep them in the dark about what is actually going on. I like to be a little more involved with my computers than that, and I was treated completely disrespectfully, and condescended to. I received great help and service from Computer Jocks. My 3-year old HP computer suddenly dropped dead. Took it in and they quickly identified the problem (fried motherboard). They expedited the acquisition and installation of a new motherboard. The computer now works as good as new. As I rely on my laptop for business travel, this makes me a happy camper. The repair was made in a way so that I did not need to re-install any software. They kept me informed and in the loop during the entire repair process. I brought a five year old laptop there and asked if it was worth getting cleaned and tuned up due to being five years old. I really felt for five years old it was not worth it all and instead of spending $150 for this just put it towards a new, standard laptop for about $450. Computer Jocks insisted it was worth it. They are the experts so I listened. So they cleaned it up in August and yesterday I just bought a new one for $450. My daughter was using it for school and it was horribly slow, crashing, etc.... The guys at Computer Jocks are very personable, knowledgeable, efficient and skilled at what they do. The business has won the News Journal "Readers Choice" award for the last 3 years: there's a reason for that - the readers who voted for them evidently are happy with the service they get from Computer Jocks. Shortly before Thanksgiving of this year, my PC came under attack of a Trojan virus and I chose Computer Jocks to remove the virus based on said "Readers Choice" awards, my having no other way to determine quality of service. Rich and Nathaniel, who both worked on my PC, were very thorough in their explanation of what a virus does, how to remove it, how long it would take (about 3 days), and made me feel comfortable that they knew what they were doing. Turns out the virus that had attacked my PC had also corrupted some of the Windows files, and the virus removal didn't correct all of the ills I was experiencing. I needed, besides virus removal, a complete back-up, wipe of my PC and reinstall of Windows and reinstalling my back-upped files. No problem for these guys; in less than two further days, and at a very reasonable price, they did all of the extra work, and my PC is up and running again: fast, free of malware, and like brand new again. If you're having any issues with your computers or other electronics, call these guys, or stop by their shop: they welcome questions and will gladly take the time to go over and answer whatever questions you have. Several years ago, the CJ guys repaired and upgraded my old Windows XP computer, enabling me to use it until there were new Windows 7 computers. For my first five years with a Windows 7 desktop computer, I was able to solve my own problems. Recently I found myself with both a hardware problem, and accumulated viruses. My first experience is my last experience! 2 stars for correctly diagnosing my problem but no stars for the service. Had my computer for 5 days waiting for a power supply. This "very important" item should "always" be in stock. Holiday season delayed shipment but I'm annoyed that I had to be the one to always call for an update. Took the computer home and booted it up with no problem except I noticed one of my dvd drives was "not" reconnected. I had to open the case and do it myself. Took my CPU into C Jocks and was told it would be a $125 OS repair. Turned out to be $195 instead! (When someone has your computer you pay or don't get it back!) Also, I had two audio plugs on the back of my CPU when I took it in, one of the geniuses BROKE one of them off so it couldn't be used...NOW MY CPU HAS NO SOUND and I have to get a new sound card. The original guys from computer jocks were awesome, they would make house calls, give straight up good advice. They also stood by the reconditioned computers they sold in their store. However, the current owner is for profit first, not the most personable guy and customer service/satisfaction second. I bought a reconditioned H/P laptop and I had to return it to them twice in less than a month because the battery wouldn't hold a charge and the keyboard shorted out intermittently. The owner waived the diagnostic fee, charged me to replace the keyboard citing I had the lap top for almost a month and anything could have happened to it during that time. He also admitted it was a donation he got for free which he rebuilt, put out on his sales floor and sold to me for $350.00 with 2 pre-existing problems. I miss the original spirit of Computer Jocks being information, transparency and customer service. read more
