Supermercato EMI is an excellent supermarket. It is large, with a wide selection of food,…read morebeverages, and other goods. Aisles are wide and well-organized. Staff are friendly and helpful (though I advise learning some Italian phrases -- unlike the larger cities, English is not widely-spoken in this region). Prices are good; EMI also stocks a variety of other items you mightn't find at a stateside supermarket, such as clothing, electronics, and bicycles. Note for those unfamiliar with the Italian supermarket system that items such as fruit and baked goods must be weighed and labeled at computerized scales where you pick them up; the cashier cannot do it for you at checkout and will send you back (ask me how I know). Ample parking out front and quick access to and from the Autostrada. A great store.

There is a big fresh fish & seafood counter with great selection and also some of the rarer seafood items. Great freshness and taste! If meat is more your thing, then there are lots of different meat cuts, fresh from the counter or packed. Also a huge selection of wonderful fruit and veggies (juicy tomatoes!). There is really everything you need: pasta, frozen food, household products, kitchenware, pet food, electronics, toys, beach accessories, all the mosquito repellents you can think of.... First stop was the deli. The mortadella with pistachio was beautiful. The prosciutto San Danielle was by far the best that I've ever had. We got some baby mozzarella made with buffalo milk. The flavor was bright and unlike anything I get in the states. Cherry tomatoes from Sicily, half of a loaf of bread casareccio, and some green olives rounded out the meal. We got some red wine, local strawberries and blueberries and were happy about our finds. In the back corner we found confetti candy with chocolate, turrone, and other candy to take home as gifts. I wish I bought more as everyone wanted some once we got home. The quality was really good. I've been home for a week and grocery shopping has been depressing. There is not the same quality of food anywhere to be found. I would definitely shop at the Coop when I'm back in Abruzzo in the future.

They also take all major American credit cards, which is nice. More and more places take plastic in and around Rome. Oddly enough, there was another big supermarket right across the street. Not sure why there were two supermarkets right next to each other, but whatever. Also, they don't just sell grocery items; they had a variety of items for the home and even clothing.
