I organized the trip, so I got to work with one of the owners, Jesse, to get everything set up. He was helpful, responsive, accommodating, and really kind. I organize a lot for my friends and myself, and this was one of the easiest. Upon arrival we were checked in by the other owner, Gary, who immediately made us feel like we were at home. He gave us a wonderful tour of the property and told us everything we needed to know for a wonderful stay. This property is nestled in the hills of WV and the views are STUNNING! Every space and room is beautifully appointed, really leaning into the upscale rustic vibe you'd expect in a mountain retreat. So many beautiful nooks and crannies to sit and read or play games or just nap. The pool and hot tub are gorgeous and Logan at the pool bar will take amazing care of you! They provide a complimentary breakfast of freshly cooked eggs, meats, and biscuits/scones. The lunch and dinner menus are varied and everything we had was delicious. Our servers, Rain (spelling ??) and Angie were stellar and the ambience was just perfect. Every single one of us left feeling refreshed and we were all sad to leave. Do yourself a favor and make the trek out to Lost River and treat yourself. This place is amazing and I'm already planning my next trip here with my partner.

A winding road through a rocky valley with a mountain stream that flows to the Lost River. Then you turn into the Guesthouse and the stunning main building and cute cabins are so perfectly placed on the property with lovely landscaping. Walk into the main lobby to be greeted by Gary, one of the owners. He was super pleasant and took us on a tour of the property pointing out the dining room, bar, pool (although it was still closed for winter), hot tub and sauna, gym, multiple media rooms, game rooms and lounge areas, and then our room in the Hobson Cabin. The room was well appointed and clean. The shower was beautiful and had great water pressure and temperature. The balcony had wonderful views of the parks close by. A country breakfast is served daily at 9 and is a great start to the day. The dining room is open in the evening for drinks and dinner with a menu for anyone! Gary and Jesse are always close by if you ever need anything and make you feel most welcome. We can't wait to visit again in the summer so we can make full use of the pool and enjoy some nearby hiking!

There are also large living and dining rooms. You can walk on paths on the 175 acres and enjoy the 2 Japanese oak baths on the lower level. I couldn't have found a nicer place to share memories and spend time with those close to me and my ex. We sang, cried, enjoyed the baths and shared meals and memories.

1 Star -- The Beginning of a Horror Movie…read more We stopped here on 8/8 for my bachelorette weekend, and honestly, this felt less like a restaurant and more like the beginning of a horror movie. My girlfriends and I all ordered the French onion soup. The cheese was burnt, there was what looked like an entire soggy slice of bread floating in the cup, and the "caramelized onions" were actually rough-chopped white onions with absolutely no flavor. But bad soup happens, so we tried to overlook it. Then we noticed the dead flies in the windows... and the live ones flying around our table. We spent the meal constantly swatting them away from our food. Then one friend went to the restroom. When she came back, we could literally hear her shoes sticking to the floor with every step -- squish, stick, squish, stick -- all the way back to our table. We came in celebrating my bachelorette weekend expecting a fun night with good food and drinks. Instead, we got burnt soup, soggy bread, flavorless onions, dead flies, live flies, and floors apparently held together by grease and adhesive. If this restaurant were the opening scene of a horror movie, I can already hear the narrator: "They thought they were just stopping for dinner... they were wrong." Management seriously needs to address the cleanliness and sanitation. This wasn't just disappointing -- it was genuinely disgusting. We will not be returning.

Just spent a phenomenal weekend here at the Lackawanna and was so sad when I had to leave. The house is cozy and beautiful. The rooms spacious and inviting. The breakfast was yummers and the owners went above and beyond as hosts for the weekend. We stayed in the Charles Suite which boasts a private bathroom and separate room. Perfect for a couple traveling with child or a group having that 3rd wheel. Highly recommend. The B&B is large but only holds 3 rooms making breakfast time quaint. Phil and Sandy, the owners, were fabulous hosts. We actually found a stray cat and they helped us take her home. My dress broke and Sandy sewed up my straps. It was probably the best 5 star service I have had a hotel. There is also a beautiful garden/backyard area, pool, firepit, relaxing porch, lovely sitting room, wine bar, water bar and basically anything you want from the kitchen. By far, one of the most relaxing and awesome stays I've had on a vacation. Highly recommend. Circling back to things to do in Front Royal, here is what we did: Dinosaur Land, Wine Tasting @ Wineries (take a cab from Yellow Cab. Our hosts accommodated our being vegetarians nicely. The building is a registered historical place. Built in 1869 by an industrialist from Scranton, PA, it has an interesting story. Phil and Sandra renovated the building over the past 10 years and have a picture album to share that experience and the history of the house. Visiting Front Royal in February limits the activities one can get involved with but we found two good used book stores (Royal Oak and Page Master) to browse through, and a good local restaurant (Element) for dinner. In addition, Main Street has a number of interesting shops and eateries to visit. All in all, we enjoyed our stay and the friendly owners, and would recommend this business to others.

Make sense from a safety perspective as women. Welcome Centers are typically a class of their own though - and this one just across the state line off I-81 is no exception. Brightly lit, inviting, ample tractor trailer parking, and sparkling clean - I can't believe I've driven past it hundreds of times and never even noticed it. Too busy making a beeline for the Bojangles at the next exit lmao. On one side of the center are the restrooms - choose from men, women, and single room "family." Truly a spot for everyone - IYKYK. The bathrooms themselves were incredibly clean, and there were a couple of larger stalls for accessible access. As a fat, nothing worse than rubbing up against the door or the seat :shivers: going into a bathroom stall. There was even a stall with a mini commode perfect for smaller people and kids. On the other side was the actual welcome center - staffed with an actual employee and hundreds of brochures, booklets, and coupon books of state attractions. Lots of vending machines too. There are two entrances - the front for car drivers and the back for tractor trailer drivers. We had some Truck Business to attend to in nearby Winchester and parked the rig overnight to sleep, then left the truck here for a few hours and it was perfectly safe. We also had our dog with us (mind your business) and were able to give him a long sniff walk around the property and tucker him out. There were a lot of employees tending to the restrooms and the grounds and they were all very friendly. Just a very nice vibe and not at all the seedy trafficking spot drilled into my head since birth lol. Now, I can't speak for what happens when the sun goes down, but during the daylight hours this is worth a stop. Enjoy!

The outside is just the same, grounds are beautifully maintained and they even have a large "LOVE" sign for pictures of your trip to their state. Graph a magazine or brochure from the rack and see everything this state has to over. I wish all rest areas were like this one, your trip would be so much more enjoyable.
