From the outside this place doesn't look like much at all. Blink and you'll miss it. If you miss it, I'd say you lost out. The place is clean for its age I say. I wasn't worried about eating or drinking. I haven't ran into a staff member yet that isn't friendly or joke around with ya. I had the privilege of meeting the owners one night and they are great people. The food is always fresh and prepared well. I haven't had a bad meal yet. The bar side is very nice and comfortable. The spaghetti and meatballs I have to try still. If the owner is cleaning plates of it, I definitely gotta try it. Keep up the good work. The food was good. Notable standouts were a well seasoned burger and the bacon cheese fries. We got the creamy Italian chicken which was a weekend special, it was tasty and cooked right but the sides weren't amazing. The mashed potatoes tasted instant and the Brussels sprouts were boiled rather than roasted, personally found them gross. Another positive were the drinks - they had Sierra Nevada beer and my craft cocktail, the raspberry mule, was delicious. The staff was friendly and attentive. We sat on the bar side and the bartender was quick to help us. Waters were never empty and the food came out in a timely manner. We found it very affordable - 2 drinks, an appetizer and entrees came to $46, it was reasonable. 4/16/19 -- Harassed - again. Same server as last go 'round. I come in for lunch. Me and my service dog. Again, Tisha (Sp?) Loudly and in middle of dining room dramatically exclaims that "she cannot have this!" I said what? A service dog for my disabilities? She says I have to show her a certificate. I AGAIN today-calmly tell her there is No federal or WV state certification system. Therefore, no letter or certificate. I then told her she can verify what I'm saying on Justice department ADA section of their website, under Title 3. She says she cannot "do this". So a man comes over to ask me "What can I get you?" No giving me his name. No hello or smile. No apologies. No offering to tell me the days special, which is the discounted burgers on Tuesdays. Which is what I came for. I Had To Ask for it. Told him (very calmly, straight face, quiet voice, and no bad words) this is third time she's given me a hard time. Today she wouldn't even serve me. I said I'm thinking of a lawyer. He then said "come on...."-- like I'm out of line - therefore totally dismissing the fact that I've had to deal with this Multiple Times here. I now know she's scared of dogs, but she'd Never said that before today. All she needed to do was ask another server to take my table. And we'd have had no problem. I'd understand that. **Mind you, my dog was sitting and/or laying the Entire Time we were there, and never made a peep.** and I Always sit in a corner so we are out of the way of foot traffic. She won't look right at me, didn't say "thanks for coming, or sorry for my fear of dogs"(which I total get)- "I should have just gotten you another server from the start", nothing. Then she gives me change in increments I cannot tip from. I Had to ask for $1's The thing that hurts most and kills me is I really like the place. And usually the food. Been coming here 15 years, since 2004. The man even acknowledged he "knew who I was." That made me feel worse. To know me, and still go through this? And now that I'm officially disabled (3 different diseases and conditions for F sake). and need a dog, I get discriminated against? Great feeling of community LRGrill.... We drove by here many times and finally timed it right to stop on our way to WV. The food was fabulous. My daughter claimed the onion rings were the best she ever had. This place was very friendly and had great food! The bar tender was always willing to try and make our drink requests. We ate dinner twice and picked up breakfast once (no fresh fruit available) . They have outside seating that was screened in. It is not dog friendly, however. There are a few different rooms to choose from for seating and the place is clean and nicely decorated. My son had a burger he enjoyed. My daughter spaghetti and meatballs. My wife had a chicken sandwich. I got chicken fried steak. They were all good. We stopped here our first night after driving out about 3 hours to the Inn at Lost River and checking in. We were there kinda early so it wasn't full which I think it gets later on. The place is true West Virginia. Friendly waitresses, country music playing in the background and down to earth comfort food for dinner. The Lost River Motel was the perfect stopover point for our backpacking trip into Dolly Sods. We were bringing our dog, so we initially booked because it was the only pet-friendly hotel available in the area, and were pleasantly surprised to experience an affordable, clean, and comfortable stay. My fiancee and I got the Living Social weekend deal like the prior reviewer and stayed in the bed-and-breakfast house. The place is lovely. The food was absolutely delicious and came in large portions. As noted, free wi-fi, although the signal isn't very strong once you leave the lounge. Tim, the proprietor, personally asked after our needs and ran missing supplies up to us. Oh, and the wine provided was from a local vineyard and was delicious! My only quibbles would be that a) the only TV in the B&B is downstairs, b) the food would be mildly expensive if not covered in the voucher -- the prices are that of a good restaurant and the vouchers of $30 for lunch and $45 for dinner were enough for the two of us to have a hearty, personalized meal, with leftovers for the next day, and c) the B&B is as drafty as a converted farmhouse (which it is) so although the thermostat was set to the high 70's, we still had to make ample use of the provided covers. That said, we had a wonderful time and plan to revisit in another few years. Bit of advice, if you're coming in in the evening, get the directions from Tim. GPS devices and Google Maps will try to route you through the mountains, a technically shorter path, but one involving narrow winding roads and hairpin curves. Save those roads for the next day, when you can drive down them in daylight and enjoy the beautiful scenery. read more

We just got back from a stay at the bed and breakfast, and we had an amazing time. It was such a respite from the hustle of city living. We purchased the Living Social deal, which got us two nights, a bottle of wine, and a $30 voucher for lunch and $45 voucher for dinner. We felt at home right away; even though we got in late Friday night, we were not rushed at all. We grabbed a late night dinner which hit the spot, then made our way to our room, which was charming without being oppressively kitschy. The next morning we had a lovely breakfast of muffins, coffee, and pineapple juice. Even though it was technically a continental breakfast, there were plenty of options, including some local apple butter. We set off for a hike in the gorgeous mountains, and enjoyed the sunny afternoon. Our late lunch of soup and sandwiches was steps above simple and left us looking forward to dinner. Dinner was also satisfying, and we were able to drink local raspberry wine with our meal. We finished off the night with a game of darts in the bar adjacent to the restaurant, which had a warm, inviting atmosphere and a great bartender. Overall, this place is wonderful if you need a few days away from your city, or just away from the hecticness of life in general. Highly recommended. read more

Building shares the property with a slightly run down looking (at least from outside) strip motel and bar/restaurant. You check in at the bar, there is no personal service. The rooms are a slight step above a chain motel, especially bathrooms. I question whether cheap animal print furniture belongs in the halls of a 120 per night B and B? Continental breakfast was meh, so we went to the Grill and were pretty underwhelmed by really salty country steak. 3 stars for the comfortable bed and quiet nights sleep, but would head a mile north to the other B and B option next time.Just not sure what I paid extra for to stay here? read more

This place is so good, I have to write a review. And I hate writing. Checked in while we went to eat. Didn't have high expectations, which made our surprise even better. Food is top notch. Hot wings were made perfectly. Great sauce and fried just right. Fried chicken and meatloaf are also great. Even the sides were terrific. The rooms are everything you'd expect from an old motel. But it's old and quaint and works, not old and outdated. And while it's old, the cleanliness is superb. Haven't completed my stay so there still may be issues yet to come. Owners, Pat & Tim, are very nice and sweet. Accommodations are not luxurious, but very comfortable and they obviously care about providing a good experience. Complimentary breakfast is really nice. I also bought the livingsocial deal and got a lot of bang for your buck - bottle of wine, wine and cheese hour, meal vouchers, plus free wi-fi, which is rare in general, much less the middle-of-nowhere! The restaurant is a great spot in Lost River Valley. I almost always get the burger, which is excellent. Service is always friendly too.

It was very difficult to get here. Ended up having to stop to ask for directions twice. That may or may not be the owner's fault for not having a proper address that a GPS can find. After the trek, I was looking forward to just laying in bed for a couple hours, watching TV before going to sleep. Unfortunately, the only TV in the place is in the living room and the signal from the "free wifi" was so weak, Netflix wasn't an option. After turning the TV on, I found out that it was getting no signal from the supposed satellite. So I just decided to make a visit to the place I SHOULD have stayed...the Guesthouse. On the upside, I got a terrific night's sleep because it's cool in the rooms and very quiet. Although I was woken up super early by the sunlight shining through the perforated blinds. I recommend this place to someone wanting to be completely disconnected from the world with nothing to accompany you but your thoughts and maybe a good book. I wasn't really, but I can appreciate some people might. read more

I stayed at the B&B for the first time the weekend of Oct. 20 and Oct. 21. Friends had stayed there before and recommended it as a good place to get away. The rooms are cozy with a great view. There is a great deck in the back of the house to sit and enjoy the views and/or a good book and free breakfast and coffee is offered in the kitchen. The only drawback is cell service is spotty depending on your carrier but free WiFi is available in the house and the lounge if you don't want to be totally disconnected from the world. I had dinner at the grill the two nights I was there and the food was excellent, especially the Old Bay wings. On Friday is open mic night in the lounge and it was great to hear some good live music from some talented artists. Travelling alone I was a bit apprehensive, but, staff and the proprietors are very friendly and made me feel welcome. As far as things to do if you don't want to just sit and veg, it's a nice drive to Wardensville and Moorefield which are nearby and offer some small shops and dining. If you're into hiking, Lost River State Park is nearby and offers some great trails. There also is an artists co-op just down the street from the inn. Lost River is a great place to get away to decompress and take in some spectacular mountain views. Even if you don't stay at the B&B, I would recommend heading to the lounge for a night out. read more

Very disappointing. Let me just sum this up by saying that after being there from 7:20pm to 8:35pm, and still not getting our food, it was time to leave. There was a table of 5 next to us that came in AFTER us and got their appetizers and entrees, ate them, and left before we ever got anything other than water/sodas. When my husband asked to speak to someone in charge, the owner happened to be there. He offered no apology or anything--didn't even acknowledge that there was a problem--just seemed to want us gone. The customer service, from the owner no less, leaves a LOT to be desired. I suggest going to The Home Place up the road in Mathias a few miles instead of here--they are more attentive to their customers and feed you in a timely manner. read more

My quesadilla was just fine however my wife's was half cheese only and the other half was ok. We asked the owner about it and he said. Wonderful in so many ways! Let's start with food, because theirs is the best in the area. You can choose a simple burger or quesadilla, or you can get pasta, salad, or a steak. You can pick one of the many regular entrees (all are wonderful) or you can go for one of the nightly chef's specials, which are usually posted online. Do not be afraid of the seafood! Funny - this place is hours from the coast but they do an incredible job with the shrimp, salmon, and other items. The bar is a lot of fun, good drinks and occasional entertainment. Atmosphere is warm, friendly, and welcoming. Staff is excellent, too. We have stayed in the inn, which is cute. Rooms are basic, but clean and comfy. We couldn't figure out how to work the cable, so we watched Netflix on the laptop... Yay for free Wi-Fi! Breakfast is wonderful. Try the Southwest omelette... read more

We just returned from a great weekend at the Lost River Bed and Breakfast. Though we're both native West Virginians, we'd never explored this part of the state. It was our first trip to the area, but I hope it won't be the last. Just two recommendations: 1) do your homework on the area before you arrive (we ended up spending a lot of time driving around gawking at the beauty of the area, only to learn later that we'd missed out on a few things that we both would have enjoyed) and 2)to the owners, I'd recommend a "do not disturb" option for the doors (and that's all I'll say about that). read more

I have stayed at the Motel and had dinner in the restaurant. The staff was always very friendly and accommodating. My sister met me in this area and we had adjoining rooms which was convenient. The decor is closer to a rustic motel, but clean. It was better than we anticipated. Not the 4 Seasons....so have your expectations realistically set. We went to the bar that evening, and it was fun. There was a fire in the fireplace, and the bartender was always smiling and made us feel welcome. We had dinner in the dining room and the server was very nice. The food was reasonably priced, and we had a great time. It is my new little place to go since I bought a log cabin in this area..... ;-) read more

We've been wanting to stop here for awhile. Recently it was recommended to me by my dentist so we thought that's our cue to try it. Well, we'll give it another try but honestly it was a bit disappointing. I had quesadillas and they were really good. My husband and the meatloaf and we should have probably sent it back. Definitely undercooked. The biggest problem was our service. It was awful. After bring us our drinks our waitress disappeared. Another server took our order. Then our server brought our food but had no idea who ordered what! Then we couldn't find her to get our bill or a box for leftovers. Finally another server had her bring the bill. Love this place, it's a cute place to visit when you want to get away from the city A-holes... There's a cute little market right up the street to that has unbelievable prices on name brand food, so I always stock up when I go there. I liked the restaurant, good prices. There's also a cute diner up the street too. A lot of cute little places around there to poke around. I love the mountain view right outside of your motel window!! I think all they really need to do is to update the bathrooms, put phones in the rooms (there's no phones, no cell service and their payphone is always broken..Which is kinda scary, if someone wanted to hack us into pieces in the middle of the night they really could) and get some new furniture for the restaurant (I really dislike the tables and chairs!!) i ate here with my bf when we stayed at the Guest House B&B down the road. this is the only decent place to eat nearby!!! so technically we had no choice.....the restaurant int he B&B is only open friday and saturday night,,,darnit!! must try to make it there next time.... lets just say the ambiance here isnt exactly "great", the inside is small and has a few tables....it looks like a small living room that they turned into a restaurant really. the menu is pretty large, they have your usual burgers and quesadillas. but they also had grilled salmon, prime rib and crab cakes. i ordered the crab cakes and the bf ordered the prime rib. we also got some steamed shrimp as an appetizer. the prime rib was actually pretty good, cooked to a perfect medium with a side of french fries and green beans. the vegetables here are obviously the kind from a microwavable bag, the fries and baked potato were aight. my crab cakes we flattened and had alot of filling in them (other kinds of fish though, not bread). the meal was filling. maybe because the portions they give u are pretty huge. the server there was attentive and nice, it was a little startling to be there though, its like they have never seen asian people before. we ARE in the middle of nowhere west virginia.....but whatever. anyways, our bill was pretty steep...a little of $50 with tip...thats alot considering where we were and what we ordered!!!! Just spent a wonderful weekend at this B&B! The hosts are warm and accommodating and the property is very clean and quiet. We loved being able to get massages on site and also enjoy the hot tub. The room was very simplistic (no TV, tiny) but in a charming way! No cell reception was awesome to really unplug but there's also wifi on the entire property. I have often referred to Lost River, WV as the anti-Rehoboth; a good mix of gay and straight visitors without the attitude one finds from would be A-listers from DC & Baltimore. This is rural America and the locals are hospitable, and libertarian enough to allow for an influx of diverse weekenders and tourists. The grill is one of three places to find something to eat & drink, but it is the only one open year-round. The other are, the General Store which has seasonal hours and lighter fare, excellent deli type sandwiches, and the Guest House which only has weekend hours and can oddly enough provide an upscale menu that can easily run $50 a head before alcohol and tip. The grill is a mix of traditional country food and some specials that seem more suited to the Chesapeake Bay/ DC area. Quality can vary based on the cook on duty, but, in general, the meals are respectable and priced more for townies than the locals. Should you find anything lacking, do not hesitate to make it known. Staff are more than willing to accommodate. Service is always with a smile and deserving of as generous a tip as you would give in the city for the same (Some visitors seem to short tip these nice people because they live in the country, truly bad form.) There is a comfortably decorated bar attached for during and after dinner cocktails. The motel is very 1960's retro in appearance, clean, serviceable and reasonable priced. There are more expensive options in the area (the Guest House, Lost River B & B), and certainly worth a look, but can run into some serious cash depending on the season. The B & B associated with the grill, is very well appointed, and like the motel centrally located with a stunning view of Highway 259 and a well kept double-wide next door. This is likely a matter of personal taste and dependant on how much time you plan to spend in either the motel or B & B. All in all, worth a visit if not a stay! read more

Terrible service! Family of 12 and spent lots . I told the owner about our waitress and all the things that happened and nothing was done about it! . Food was ok. We waited an hour and had to remind the waitress of our appetizer we never got, our wine we never got and she served the food and we never got silverware with napkins. I said where is our silverware and she said who all needs silverware and I said we all need silverware and she started arguing with me. I told the owner and he did nothing. We spent over 150.00. We live close by and go to trout pond and the lost river inn and general store often. We will never come back to this place unfortunately. read more

This ain't no fru fru sushi joint with yuck food and snooty service! It is great, delicious home style food that is served with a smile in a warm, cozy atmosphere with a beautiful mountain view. They always have awesome specials and today was no exception; my wife had a huge portabella mushroom stuffed with Israeli Cous Cous, spinach, sun dried tomatoes, and topped with large chunks of feta cheese and baked to a golden brown. Yum!! I, being a guy, went with their great, big burger and beer battered onion rings that was cooked perfectly to order, thick, juicy and scrumptious. We don't get to eat here as often as we like since it's a hike across the mountain to get here, but it's always good and never disappointing in any way.
