Today, I return these two devices, and there surprise: - the reimbursement will not be made by card (I paid by card) but by voucher. - a 20% discount will be applied because the top of the cardboard containing the monitor is torn. I repeat: 20 PERCENT and not 20 EUROS. So having bought the item at 100 euros, they withdraw 20 euros. If you bought an item for 1000 euros, they withdraw 200 euros for a torn box! After very tense discussions, they agree to reimburse me by card but maintaining the discount. This is what the manager told me: "We are going to make AN EFFORT, we will reimburse you by card but the discount is maintained". The manager therefore hoped that, by reciprocity, I would accept the discount. He is a pro and to say that he makes "AN EFFORT" is no accident. In short. So I refused their offer and made them understand that only the police would get me out. On the spot, the police make me understand that they can do nothing for me. It is not their role. They advise me to contact the head office or consumer associations. It's incredible ! In a country like France, consumers have no protection against these mafia. These companies that make their own laws. FNAC, I assure you that if you don't pay back all of my money, you risk paying dearly. If you're willing to take that risk for $ 20, then let's go. In addition, I refused your offer on principle. My losses are limited but yours ... I have a lot of time at the moment so I will take special care of you. Yes, it's crowded, filled with tourists, and a bit higher-priced than other locations. But guess…read morewhat?! That means that it stays open late, has lots of employees who speak perfect English, and stocks all the stuff that a visitor might really want (e.g., phones, SIM cards). The saleslady took a long time to set up my phone for me and wrote out a bunch of instructions for me for buying new minutes, checking my voicemail, etc.

Upstairs is an archive of all the Samsung phones since the fists bricks to the latest and greatest. Some cool VR things where they step you in and you can "snowboard" (which I didn't do sauce it looked like it would make me queasy) but the people trying it out seemed to enjoy it. Customer service was quick and easy, and they had reps that could speak all kinds of different languages, which is important in such a touristy area of Paris. Plus, lots of places to charge phones. Though they gave my mom the side eye while she was charging her iphone...

Samsung seems to have spent all its effort on architectural slickness and none on creating a top-flight team of well-trained personnel. The service people all look so overworked and frazzled -- one of them was even dead asleep inside the demo sound booth. On all 3 of my visits, customers were having to fight for attention. I don't blame any of the personnel. Samsung needs to get its management training act together. In the meantime, the DARTY shopping experience is far superior. Managers and staff there are well-trained, informed, helpful, calm and seem to really enjoy serving their customers. It's also much more spacious -- I felt kinda claustrophobic at Samsung Store.

I needed some service work done on a macbook and didn't want to deal with the Louvre so I thought…read morethat I would check out the Opéra store. The building is magnificent, not the usual glass, white-walled Apple store, but a restoration of a beautiful old bank. Complete with spiral staircases, marble and tile floors, wrought-iron railings, and a huge skylight, the store itself is a work of art. The display space for iphones, ipads, and computers is big enough to be accessible even with the huge crowds this store can draw. I had made a Genius Bar reservation online so I didn't have to wait but I would not advise just showing up and hoping to be served as the store was packed on both visits. The Genius Bar tech was incredibly friendly and competent. The other techs that I saw were incredibly patient given the questions that people were asking them. The Macbook was under European consumer warranty even if no longer covered by Applecare but the tech said they could still provide the 400€ motherboard replacement for free (instead of having to pass through Darty where it was purchased). All said, another fantastic Apple support experience by a courteous, competent and efficient staff.

I turned up at the agreed time. The machine was is pieces on his desk. I had received no communication from him. I was offered no opportunity to have the machine sent to me at a later date so I had to COME BACK to Paris from London to collect it. I told him VERY clearly the dates. I was assured it will be ready. It was not. As I write this it seems unbelievable. I came back the FOLLOWING weekend and it still wasn't ready. I was in shock and didn't have anyone in France who could help me deal with it. I went back to England. The man assured me I would have my computer within 2 days by mail. Two weeks later I have no computer and no information from him about when it will arrive. For a while, he gave me dates. Now he has gone completely quiet. I have no idea what to do. I guess I have to go to the police. It's absurd. Good luck if you choose to go here and DEFINITELY DON'T GO IF YOU ARE A TOURIST. The man is not a bad person but he's not reliable.
