Confeitaria Colombo at Forte de Copacabana is an absolute must-visit in Rio. The access is easy, and it felt much less crowded than the famous original location downtown, which made the experience even more enjoyable. This century-old café is full of history, and having coffee here with a breathtaking view of Ipanema Beach and Sugarloaf Mountain is simply unforgettable. The ocean breeze makes everything feel extra special, and the service was excellent from start to finish. After eating, it's the perfect spot to continue your day with a walk along Copacabana or a visit to the fort museum right next door. I came with my family and had the chance to try several dishes. The cappuccino was outstanding, with the perfect balance of sweetness and a warm touch of cinnamon. The American toast with jam was delicious, and we also tried the pistachio éclair, which was very good, although it tasted more like a creamy filling than a strong pistachio flavor. The pastel de nata was small but really tasty as well. My favorite, though, was the "Queijo do Forte," a breaded brie that was absolutely incredible. The Assado de Gorgonzola was also perfectly prepared, full of rich flavor, and the meat was cooked just right. As a final highlight, I loved being able to enjoy a truly fresh natural orange juice with lunch -- something I really miss when I'm abroad. A trip to Rio is incomplete without visiting Confeitaria Colombo. We visited this spot at the fort and it was packed. Every outdoor seat by the beach was taken and a few spots indoor were available. We ordered the brigadeiro, chocolate tarte devoured it and left. The prices did seem high as compared to other places but I guess thats cos they are popular. Overall a good visit after a long walk by Copacabbana beach. read more

This is one of the oldest places in Rio. Not the original but with a great view of Copacabana. The food was just ok. It wasn't great. Also lukewarm. If you're going for the view, you're all set. Maybe their breakfast is better? We had the beef stroganoff and the pot roast. Both were average. The appetizer was the only highlight of our visit. We ordered croquettes. Delicious. Service is good. I think they rely on being a touristy place with a great view so they don't try very hard. Would I go back? Only for the view. Def will return. It's inside of the Fort Copacabana, with both indoor and outdoor seatings, looking out to the famous beach. It's a 93 degrees day and we're very comfortable by the water, with a strong Atlantic Ocean breeze. The Fort charges a nominal fee to get in and they don't take credit card. When we asked if USD would do, the guard kindly let us in. Thank you. (Again, we're going to survive on credit card here.) Service is really good but slow, which is fine. The food, oh my, Huge portion and they taste good. We've Salmon and pasta salad - look at the size! The green rice is well cooked and yummy (a little saggy tho). This unit is extremely well located and privileged by the view of the Copacabana waterfront. Colonial coffee for two people was extremely well served with a variety of items that would easily feed 3 people. The service is a little slow, the waiters didn't seem very attentive to our requests, but this gave us freedom to appreciate the people who stood up there close to the fortress. read more

Gorgeous view, cute cafe, delicious sweets! Got the brigadeiro and had to come back another day to get even more brigadeiro since I didn't realize how delicious it is! First time having it and had to come back for more! The view is absolutely gorgeous and peaceful by the water looking at the beach & the cityscape. Got a few savory items as well, like the breaded chicken and an shrimp fried ball ( i apologize I don't remember the proper name for both of them). Both were good, but nothing spectacular compared to other similar types of cafes and the chicken was very dry. We had eaten lunch on Copacabana beach and all I wanted was a grab-and-go bakery that had all the Brazilian pastries and sweets I had been craving the entire trip. At the least, Portuguese egg tarts and brigadeiros aka the only Brazilian desserts I know. Is that too much to ask for my lil' ole' sweet toof? Well, it's harder than you think to find such a bakery, especially if you don't want to go to an actual sit-down restaurant or any of the beach kiosks in Copacabana. And no, ice cream and acai were not satisfying to lil' sweet toof. Sweet toof was angry and demanding and wanted pastries. TGCC, Thank Goodness for Confeitaria Colombo! We decided to visit Fort Copacabana since it was so close and walkable to where we ate lunch. You have to enter Fort Copacabana to get to Confeitaria Colombo, which requires a payment of like 6 reals for adults (CASH ONLY). That was less than $3 usd each, so who are we to argue? The Fort itself is pretty interesting with lots to see and good-looking military men, but after looking around at the big cannons (pun inten...ah forget it) and the barracks blah blah, we saw that Confeitaria Colombo was extremely popular. It seemed like a mix of locals and tourists, but probably more tourists. I don't know how the food tastes, but it was an hour wait and the tables outside had a killer view of the ocean and Rio, but we were not willing to eat another lunch just for the view. I know it was an hour wait because I tried to do it the right way and asked if we could get a table, but the hostess told me the wait time and I just straight up got to the point, DO YOU HAVE BRIGADEIROS AND HOW DO I GET ONE EASILY? To my surprise, she said yes and told me to go to the dessert case inside and order at the counter. HALLELUJAH!! And what a dessert case it was!! It had everything I needed and more. Portuguese egg tarts, brigadeiros, luscious multi-layer cakes, long things, short things, round things, square things, balls of smooth and rough sweet things, and tarts with swirls and crumbles and powder OH MY, I straight up went Willy Wonka insane--like imagine that part when they go through that tunnel of terror. THAT WAS ME. You're supposed to decide what you want, walk over and tell the cashier and pay and they give you a receipt to give to someone behind the counter to get your desserts. Although there were labels, I had no idea what was what so I kept trying to communicate to the cashier (and failing) that I need to point to what I wanted. The girl didn't understand but luckily a server walking by figured out what I was trying to do and we successfully point-communicated. I will say, if you have questions about desserts, it's kinda hard to flag anyone down to describe things (especially in English) as all the servers are running around, so your best bet is to just get a bunch of things that look good and try them all. NO ASKIE, JUST EATIE. Again, I don't know how the food here tastes, it looked kinda pricey and didn't look too special, but based on the desserts alone and the fact that it satisfies a sweet tooth/bakery/grab-and-go niche in the area that I couldn't find anywhere else, I would say I'm a fan! If you have a sweet tooth and happen to be visiting Fort Copacabana, which is highly likely, I say you stop by, get your desserts and find one of the many benches nearby to eat them with some great views. And remember to bring cash/reals for entry to the Fort! read more

This place gets 5. Stars for its gorgeous view, but one star for the service and food. The hostess was not that friendly, and the bathrooms were not clean; they were hot and smelly. The food was very poor. It was nothing special at all! You'd be better off going to a grocery store and feeding yourself. I do not recommend this place at all! I'd go to Manuel Joaquim in Copacabana. A Brasilien friend told me to have breakfast there. We went on a Monday and found out that the place was closed on Mondays. I went again the next day and it was just so spectacular!! the views are to die for, we had the perfect table outside, the last table at the end. We had cafe con leche and also penne and smoked salmon sandwich. It was delicious. The service was good which I was not expecting to since the tables are so far from the actual restaurant/kitchen. This will definitely be a spot that I will go back!!! So glad my friend told me about it. Well this place definitely lived up to the hype. If you want a filling breakfast with tons of carbs this is the place. They have set meals which include a plethora of breads, cheeses, meats, coffee, butter, jam and biscuits. They also have plenty of a la carte options so you can build your own breakfast. The variety of cafe is great and I would recommend the signature Colombo cappuccino, fancy and topped with whipped cream (chantilly). Be warned, come with a empty stomach and if you're there on a Sunday morning be prepared to wait. It tools is nearly 2 hours to get a table for 4 people at 10am on a Sunday. They give you a buzzer that reaches most areas in the fort, so you can walk around while you wait. Note that the soldiers don't allow people to sit in the outer retaining wall so look for benches if you need to rest your feet. You really can't beat the views from Copacabana Forte and make you sure you take a walk around the fort since you have to pay for it just to get to the restaurant itself. read more

I had already been to Colombo in Centro, but this was a whole different experience! Here, you can enjoy your lunch/coffee/pastry/all of the above while sitting out on the very end of Copacabana Beach, with the entire beach stretched out in front of you. This is about as good as it gets for atmosphere! They have a large menu, ranging from breakfast type foods to sandwiches and snacks. I got a salad, and I have to say it was one of the best salads I have found in Rio! Where this place really shines, however, is the desserts. Confeitaria Colombo is known for it's pastries, and this location has a huge selection of them. Whether you go for an eclair, a tart, a cheesecake, or any of the other millions of options, you will surely be happy! It's best to go during a weekday if you can manage. On the weekends you may end up waiting more than two hours for a table. To get to this restaurant, you must buy an admission ticket to the fort (R$6), but that's really OK, because you can explore the fort and the museum as well! Vale a pena ir! read more

This is the definition of a tourist trap. The only thing this place has going for it is the location. You can sit outside and take in all of Copacabana Beach as well as the fort. We went here for brunch because everyone kept recommending the place. My friend described the food as glorified-hospital-grade food and I completely agree with him. Tourist trap. The food is extremely overpriced and not good by any means. Among the dozens of restaurants I dined at in Rio this was by far the least authentic. The only plus of this restaurant is the option to dine outside as the views are spectacular. However, when my friend and I went to this restaurant the wait to dine outside was 90 minutes. Of course, that's not the restaurants fault, but ultimately dining inside is not the ideal experience. As a side note, this restaurant is located INSIDE Copacabana Fort so, you must pay 6 reais to enter the fort and dine at this restaurant. No big deal though. With the current American conversion rate, 6 reais is like $1.50. read more

So my family and I visited this establishment on a Sunday @ 12 pm. Arrived knowing there would be a wait. Only to have people who arrived after us to be sat before us. We finally sat down at 1:45. Ordered drinks and food at the same time. Waited over 30 minutes for our drinks. No communication from the uneducated waitstaff. The manager who is also a moron. This place is great to stop by after walking on the beach and show your friends the view of Copacabana beach. The food is always good here but be prepared to wait for a table because all the tourists come here for coffee, desserts and the view. Nice setting for a breakfast, brunch, or snack. The folhado de queijo com presunto was delicious, but everything else was pretty poor. The omelete do bosque tasted overly smoky and the ciabatta I ordered came with virtually nothing inside. I'm not a huge fan of super-sweet coffee, so didn't enjoy that much either. All this being said, the service was excellent and the view of Copacabana was stellar. If I went back I'd maybe just go for a dessert. read more

We were told that this was the most famous bakery in Rio, and while the lines were long and the space was bustling, I think this was an example of when famous doesn't equate to the best pastries.
