Usual quality coffee offerings but I picked a drink my tour guide almost ignored! A hot barley drink. He has had it before but only as a child in this area. It is apparently not in Porto. I never had a hot barley drink in a cup- only a glass of a cold one from pouring from an Asian bottle or maybe heating it up in a mug once. The barley drink here seemed darker than what I was used to seeing.
There were also two pastries unique to this shop or area. One was a strawberry or maybe raspberry marmalade inside of a coconut breaded cookie.
The other was an almond cookie. This wasn't the buttery Asian almond cookie I thought it would be. It had an edible paper like the ones used in the bread offering in mass for the body of Christ. Apparently, this paper is actually healthy for you.
Truly a treat with my own intuition and my tour guide's. read more
