Stir fry Scallop & Brocolli at Confuscius
    Jason A.

Lived in Wimbledon 9 years and never been here before. WHAT A WASTE !! I'm not the biggest fan of Chinese food in the world, I certainly don't go in for the odd takeaway, but I have been partial in the past to restaurant Chinese food. The food here is nice and the service fine. We went early one Tuesday evening, the place was deserted, but only because of the time. The menu is reasonably extensive. We plumped for a shared Veggie Platter to start. Bite sized crispy things (Spicy samosa, deep fried seaweed, diced bean curd with garlic & chili salt deep fried courgette) and a little sweet chili dip. Very acceptable. Followed that with Stir fried Scallops & Broccoli, Sweet & Sour Chicken, Stir fried water chestnut & celery and egg fried rice. Not posh nosh by any stretch, but left very sated and will go back before another 9 years have passed.

I found this restaurant searching for Chinese on yelp and it is absolutely amazing! Great environment timely service and the food was fantastic. I have been in several Chinese restaurants and it is by far the best one I know in London. Given I live in Wimbledon I will definitely come again and try some more dishes. Recommended!

The family that owns Confucius are from Hong Kong and don't speak with as strong a British accent as one would expect.

Bayee Village has been producing reliable, tasty Chinese food in Wimbledon for decades and there is a sister restaurant in Putney. The decor is great, from the 2 stone lions guarding the entrance to the large fish tank and Chinese lanterns inside. You are also always assured of a warm welcome and better service than in many Chinatown restaurants. The food is a mixture of Peking (north) and Szechuan (southwest) cuisine. The house speciality is seafood and if your budget can stretch, you won't be disappointed with the lobster and spring onion on a bed of crispy noodles, steamed whole sea bass with ginger and spring onion, kung po king prawns with sweet chilli sauce and garlic and soft shell crab with fresh chilli pepper and garlic salt. The other non seafood dishes are also good. A good solid local Chinese restaurant.

It was fresh, full of flavours and it even felt as though i was eating healthy food! I had a gorgeous aubergine dish that was gorgeous and their crispy duck was really tasty as well as their cashew nut dishes. We had some really nice wine here as well. The decor is quite strange, with a classic piano and aquarium in the restaurant but i guess it gave us something to look at while we waited...and we were waiting for quite a while...maybe this is a good sign as it made me think everything was being cooked freshly from scratch, otherwise they were just being really slow. The service of the waiters was a little on the slow side but luckily we weren't in a rush. The prices were all pretty reasonable as well. I will return if i'm in the area.

Although we were looked after by several staff, they worked well together as a team, and were both friendly and extremely efficient - despite the restaurant being very busy. A nice feature if you sit at the ear is being able to see the kitchens - which work at a frenetic pace. Since the pandemic, it is clear that their take-away business has mushroomed, so orders were flying in and out at speed. I have upped the review to 5*.

Fortunately, despite the name, this isn't some strange misguided attempt at Scottish/Chinese fusion cuisine or a Chinese burger takeaway. McChina is a solid Chinese restaurant. They have all the usual British Anglo-Canto favourites. However, I'm a bit sneaky and sometimes get them to cook me some Malaysian dishes off menu like mixed seafood hor fun Malaysian style. They're happy to oblige if they know the dish. I usually take away but the restaurant and bar look nice. Sadly their Morden branch closed last year and I now need to collect from here as they no longer deliver as far as Morden.

Slurp describes itself as a Chinese/Japanese restaurant and it's located at the end of Wimbledon Broadway. It does a broad range of oriental dishes - perhaps the best way to visualise the menu is to imagine Wagamama combined with Busaba Eathai with a few more Asian countries represented as well. I would say their emphasis would be on noodles with some bento boxes and rice dishes as well. I've tried their seafood ho fun (broad rice stick noodles) which was nice if a bit pricey at over £7. There was a nice selection of fresh juices. If you like the Wagamama or Busaba concept and atmosphere, you'll like Slurp. Sluuuuurp - sorry, the name just brings a smile to my face :-)

So after a hard week [again] and a well deserved earlier finish returning to Slurp was supposed to be comforting. And it was, the same old service with a smile, not too busy early in the evening and a nice Slurp juice of various fruits obliterated to a more-ish liquid nature. But previously grubby benches and low light nature of the place had been replaced by a brighter, more IKEA in nature atmosphere; not so comforting. And although the Ebi Katsu (how could you do these wrong anyway?) was still there, the previously tasty and by no means healthy MSG riddled well spiced offerings had been replaced by a bland, water offerings (the House Special rice and Prawn Black bean equally disappointed). Such a shame, and my regularly burnt tongue that I still got from the pipping hot food was no longer offset by the naughty but nice food. Yup - Slurp Juice, Green Tea, Ebi Katsu Nah - House Special rice, Prawn Black Bean
