I am so happy and grateful that there was a camp that allowed my toddler some creative time outside our home and made him feel like a big kid. For my daughter it gave her an afternoon activity after school and also got to hang out with some of her friends. Both children loved being able to create and make new friends. Physical therapy and speech services are just a couple of the other services they provide. They also have work programs with a life coach for the older students to help,them transition. Countless extracurricular activities for the students as well to include dances, field trips, and other events such as pasta night and St. Patrick's day celebration. IEC is truly an amazing place and the folks who work there are incredible.

They bring them on community trips, they run a coffee shack three times a week, they bake for events, and the kids there learn that community is most important. I would recommend looking at iea for anyone who needs both intensive reading education and life skills. But those are not the only things they offer they offer education children. There is music education, art education, physical education and health along with clubs that support children's interests. Intensive education academy is truly amazing. .

With my boyfriend, we signed up to paint a panda (moderate level) with Jessica Behm. I used to take art classes when I was young, but that was probably 10 years ago. On the other hand, my boyfriend isn't super artsy and painting is not something that he would ever do for fun on his own. But Jess was super easy to follow and was great with those who needed a little extra help on a step. We both came away from the two hour experience having had a great time and wanting to sign up again. They provide all the art materials and a smock, but it's still recommended to wear clothing that you don't get paint on (wasn't an issue for me but good to be on the safe side). My boyfriend and I ate dinner before and just ordered drinks when we were there. Ours was held at Wood-n-Tap in Hartford, and even though it was past 7:00, they still had a discounted Happy Hour menu that we could order from, which was great. (We got two delicious raspberry lemonades for $4 each.) There were some people who ordered appetizers with their drinks, but I'd highly recommend just eating dinner before, because you're going to want to focus on painting. Like another reviewer said, I would suggest getting there early and picking somewhere to sit that has an easy view of where the artist will be painting. Jess was great about painting a step and then walking around with her canvas, but it's just easier to reference if you're not always craning your neck to see. I love that Jess had a camera, and she went around taking pictures of people in the process of painting and of the end result. We were told the pictures would be uploaded onto Facebook later, and that we could look for them and tag ourselves. I think this company uses social media in a super effective way. I would say in signing up and choosing the level of difficulty for the painting that if you're not very good at art and want something decent-looking with minimal effort that you should go with the paintings that are marked "easy." "Moderate" for me was a little challenging, and I had to focus to make my painting look the way I wanted it to, but I'm also a perfectionist. They also add more painting events to the website throughout the month, so if you don't see something you like, definitely check back. On the same note, if you see something you like, buy your tickets early because they do sell fast. I'm so excited to do this again next month!

I visited during the Workshop's open house, getting to meet the artists and see their creations displayed in a small area out front with pots and perennials for sale. I then ventured into the studio, where I have been wanting to take a pottery class for some time. The studio is beautiful and cozy. There is a slightly awkward half-step down in the main door and then two small steps up into the main work area, where classes are held or pottery is thrown. Right inside the main door is a square-room where pieces from artists are displayed for purchased, anything from pots and mugs to ornaments and trays. Each piece is crafted with love and care, with endless amounts of creativity mixed in. These pieces are one-of-a-kind. I purchased a flower pillow--yes, a small pillow with holes for flowers to poke out of--with delicate flowers already placed carefully in by the artist, who walked by and saw me looking at the piece and told me I could have the flowers as well if I purchased the piece. I was able to chat with her a few minutes and she described to me how she made it. I love open houses just for that--I meet and chat with the artists right there!! I also purchased a gorgeous ornament with outstanding detail and a tiny hanging mirror with a beautifully crafted sun ray-like frame. It is amazing to see all of these works of art, which are crafted right there in the studio. The Workshop offers 9-week classes during each of the seasons, one class in the mornings and one in the evenings. The price for these classes is rather high, about $325, and it seems as though you need to buy your own bag of clay for $20 on top of that, though I do not know for sure. There is a special discount for summer classes, which are $290. My student budget cannot really afford that at this time (as well as my hectic school schedule), but it seems like you will be taught by skilled instructors and work in a nice comfortable place, covered in this "tuition." I spoke with Kathy, who runs the classes; she told me all about the classes and suggested an instructor as I am a beginner. She was extremely kind and helpful, not to mention very welcoming!! Each individual I met at the Workshop was very friendly and helpful. I am very impressed by this small studio!! From the comfortable atmosphere to the kind artists, I will definitely be returning--and hopefully for a class--to Expressions Pottery Workshop!! It is a wonderful hidden find!!
