I tuned in on the 25th because Barack Obama was speaking at the 2008 Commencement in place of Edward Kennedy and the Wesleyan web-site was simulcasting it live. First of all, it took FOREVER for all of the people to be seated and I was subjected to their drum corps during the entire parade - the drummers looked like something from another country and not in a good way. Senator Obama's address was scheduled to begin at 11:00am. The actual graduation addresses did not even start until 11:45 and the first speaker was the class valedictorian. What in God's name are they teaching up there? The girl could not talk to save her life - and she was the best that her class could produce to speak on their behalf?? We are all in serious trouble here folks if this is what $40K gets for an education these days. When Senator Obama FINALLY took the podium all hell apparently broke loose with the web people; suddenly the signal scrambled, delayed and then altogether stopped - please note there were absolutely NO issues during the drum rampage intro and boring parade of guests and grads. We have high speed cable connectivity with XP software so I'm pretty sure it was at their end. But, c'mon folks - during one of the most interesting political addresses that this state has seen in our time the university should have been better prepared. Then again, maybe the Wesleyan web team are Hillary supporters; lol.
