The teachers are compassionate, patient, kind, accomodating, and overall extraordinary. We feel safe and confident leaving our 4 year old and twin 1 year old girls in their care. Their curriculum is beyond compare--they take extra steps in providing fun yet educational care for our children. The extra offerings like cooking class, phonics, and soccer training (not to mention their awesome summer program) are just added bonuses. The director, Heather, goes out of her way to touch base with us about our children's progression and provide us support. She and other staff have been a great support/reference for us as parents, providing us information and feedback on parenting tricks and child behaviour (and letting us know that we weren't crazy when we had home issues). They truly know and understand children. We feel that our son is already ahead of other children his age that go to other providers and will be well prepared for kindergarten. We really can't say enough good things about this center. I should also mention that we drive almost an extra 30 minutes, passing many daycares (including another Kindercare) just to come to this excellent learning center. The center is clean they are proficient they are kind they help with potty training they have a hair dresser come in once a month to help cut kids hair because hair cuts aren't always the easiest things for two year olds. My son is socializing with other children . They have a full kitchen and a cook who makes the children's food fresh i mean really what more can a parent ask for . I love this center and would recommend it to any family I live about 20 minutes away and I wouldn't change going to this care center for any center that was closer to me. He was very excited to start his first day and ran right to the classroom we were told he was to be assigned to from our previous visit. The owner of the facility told us that we are not welcome back due to him not being compliant. He did not listen to her when we first got to the center (shocker he is a two-year-old that was there for less than 15 minutes and overly excited) and when he fell out of his chair he cried and ran for us because he was scared (crazy how he ran to his parents to console him...). Those two reasons were enough for the owner to justify that we are not welcome back and our two-year-old is just not going to be a good fit. I'm not sure as to what they expect out of a two-year-old, when this is normal and age-appropriate behavior. But apparently our two-year-old was a safety issue as well. Regarding how they allow their doors to the classroom be unlocked for the children to open them without a gate which in my opinion, is a safety issue for the children. However, I warn any parents who are looking at this center to be wary. Even the staff apologized on account of the owner and were unsure as to what happened. Very unhappy and ashamed that I even thought this establishment would be kind to my child.

After doing some research, I decided to give them a call. The person I spoke with, Kathy, was very helpful and explained all of the options available. TVMS teaches to all levels of students- from beginners to advanced musicians. They have a good number of teachers to choose from, and they offer lesson times during the week and on Saturdays. Lessons are given at Connecticut College in the Cummings Art Center. Students have the opportunity to use the College's resources, which include individual practice rooms (all with Steinway grand pianos). TVMS schedules several student recitals during the year where students have the opportunity to play in front of an audience, something that all students need to become comfortable with. The cost for lessons is a bit higher than what you may find on the outside- however, I feel the cost is definitely offset by the quality of the lessons and all of the extras that are available to the student. I highly recommend TVMS for anyone who is searching for a music teacher- especially for those who are more serious in their intent.

It becomes an issue during registration period because the your account will be frozen if you can't pay the balance by then. A good majority of the students are often stressed and overwhelmed by this. Financial aid and the bursar's office isn't always on campus, but when they are present then they are very helpful. Tuition and payment will prevent you from being able to sign up for classes you want, and unfortunately it often times mean that you will be waitlisted by the time you're able to clear up your balance. I do appreciate the small environment of the school academic wise because the teachers (most of them) go out of their way to convey their lessons to you. They value the potential and do work one on one with you to improve your skills. They do not disrespect their students, but will privately speak to you about any personal issues (lack of attendance, disrespect towards another students, etc). The Dean is a very likeable person who often talks with students and genuinely wants to hear everyone's voice. He was gracious and listened to be start to finish. Some issues he can't resolve immediately because Lyme Academy is now part of the University of New Haven and it requires them to get involved. For the most part, he works hard to ensure a productive and inclusive breeding ground for creative learning. I feel like I can talk to faculty and administration without hesitation if I need to. Cafeteria food, while good, is very expensive and the meal plan doesn't cover a lot. Always keep an eye on your food because someone probably will steal it and it causes the other student (most cases) to have nothing to eat. There are limited food options, but the Chef is a good lady who happily accommodates people's food preferences. I hope the University of New Haven will fix the menu and meal plans to mirror their campus. Cafeteria is open from eight to five on weekdays only, and is locked on weekends. It doesn't work well since there are night classes, and students who work until 2 a.m. in the studios. The two vending machines are prone to break, and most students don't have a car. There is no nearby location for fast food, and no take out place will deliver out to Old Lyme. There is a Big Y in Old Lyme and even their prices are hard to afford for many students. The Art store on campus is very helpful because I need last minute supplies, and has undergone changes with Melanie. Prices on items are high though than at other art stores, but they are not readily accessible. Students for the most part are pleasant people, with a couple who cause unnecessary drama. That's in any small place though - just ignore it and you're fine. Everyone else are fun to talk with and it's fun to get to know everyone. I would recommend this school because it offers training that you don't get from mainstream art schools. They prepare you with exceptional foundation and skill sets needed to be a successful artist. You are a person here and not a number. Do not expect to be able to easily take classes offered by the University of New Haven on the West Haven Campus. They do not currently provide transportation and often times it is near impossible to attend a class you want because of schedule conflict. It's approximately 30-45 min. drive back and forth. Then again the merging process is still going on currently. Please be aware of these factors when applying.
