Lunar New Year rave with SJSU lion dancers.
    Alex B.

I've been here twice with friends and both times we've had amazing experiences. The speakers are great and the lights add to the experience. There's three floors, first floor for dancing, second floor gives you a new overhead view of the stage without it being crowded, and the roof is a perfect place to cool down. You can still hear the music from up there but it's quiet so it's great if things get too loud for you inside. The staff is great as well.

Came for Hoodslam and the place was massive! Many bars, lots of quiet nooks away from the action including their roof top. Bathrooms and the whole place was super clean. Seems like a cool venue and place to accommodate large groups! (The only issue I had and ultimately why my group left early: the smell. To management, I think there is something on your menu that is making that whole venue smell like cheese, and not in a good way. I suspect the truffle fries. I genuinely overheard many strangers say things like "why does it smell like cheese?" I wasn't sure if it was a sweaty wrestling crowd or food, but ultimately think it was fresh truffle fries coming out of the kitchen. I kindly urge you to reassess the menu, because it was a significant odor I fear staff may be nose blind to. All the best.)

All of us must, some day, witness Hoodslam. It is a bay area/Earth/Human Race rite of passage. In the interest of helping folks prepare their spirits, allow me to run down the experience. Tonight I figuratively dine with Sausage OG's, Pinky and Mike-is-a-Hotdog-a-Sandwich. LET US RIDE. First of all - one must drink. What do you drink? I allow inference to fill the void. Time dictates that all things change, so I cannot anticipate what people are drinking in 2124 when they are reading Ricky Sausage reviews on stone tablets. The ring is large and in-charge. The crowd is frenzied. We are bloodthirsty. First up is Joseph Brody. Pinky remarks, "he is looking for thirsty bitches." Mike replied (too quickly), "f*** the fans!" He's hot... But idk Mike! Up next was Mikey J. Mike had some opinions of his namesake. "people went in with the wrong attitude. It might be because we have the same name." Viva Bam rolled into the ring shortly thereafter. In all her glory, Pinky thought, "She was hot. She did not remind me of any god, just Viva bam. Maybe she has yet to be one." The fights were coming round like raindrops from the thunderous sky of the biblical flood. Noah collected us toward the ring knowing that God would protect the ring. The Blood Boys (aka Blood Bond 64) came out in holy triumph. Pinky "liked their outfits." They fought the Lost Treasures. Aka, Mike, "the 90's dudes." As Pinky grimaced through the butt crack visible through the jorts, she remarked, "They had jello shots! I missed the sweat and the slapping." The fight ended in confusion... Mike tried to decipher: "We went against the grain and we came out ahead! Maybe me - I thought we were all blood gang? Even though people to the left, right, front and behind were booing." Up next we had the grief counselors and we loved it. Mike: "She's not a wrestler?" Pinky: "She's a doctor!" Mike: "Now I'm rooting for the grief counselor in his new outfit. Give him his wig back!" Dear reader, I'm only limited to so many characters. May this review be your lighthouse beckoning you towards the sandy shores of Hoodslam. As Pinky summed it up, "There could have been more cartwheels, but it was still a great experience." Can't wait to see you again, dear reader, at Slood Ham. Ta ta!

I came here for my friend's baby's first birthday. In Korean culture, a baby's 1-year-old birthday is a HUUUUUGE deal. It's called a Doljanchi or a "DOL"--where the baby wears a hanbok (traditional dress) and there's a ritual (sort of a fortune telling) where a bunch of innocuous objects are placed in front of the baby, ex. a string, a gavel, a coin, a brush, etc. And when the baby picks up the object, say a gavel, then s/he will become a judge...something like that. It's all in good fun. Ironically, the baby did in fact pick up the gavel, which is rare, usually babies pick up the coin or a string since it's lighter and easier to grab. I've seen pictures of my DOL and it's off the hook. There is a bunch of food, especially Korean duk and tons of fruit-- to represent prosperity and long-life. My grandparents (on my dad's side) were so proud to hold me in the photo-- I looked kinda miserable. In fact, I looked like a boy. The reason why DOLs are such a big deal is because traditionally in Korea, most babies didn't survive past their first year of life. Apparently, my mom told me that when I was 3 months old, I got really really sick, and was sick for another 3 months afterward and she was afraid that I wouldn't make it. Dramatic, right? So, when I turned one, she threw a huge party-- "a thankful relief," she said. That's why when I get sick as an adult, I get really sick because my immune system is basically shot. And it's really cute, even today, my mom freaks out when I get sick, because she remembers back to when I was a baby. And always gives me the motherly speech about sleeping more and drinking fluids..and it's one of the rare times I actually allow her to "take care of me." Heck, I think it's the only time I let anyone take care of me. Either way, the celebration was beautiful. So proud of my friend for being such an amazing mother/woman-- and she's really blessed to have such a beautiful child, who will forever love and adore her. Babies are the best, they need you like no other, and I absolutely love taking care of them.

The space is absolutely beautiful and a great blank canvas that doesn't need much decorating because it's got what some elders may call "good bones". The owners are really easy to work with and great at outlining all the details up front, so that you know what you are getting. And for the price, it's totally worth it! The space comes with tons of bells and whistles that you would normally pay extra for. That includes a sound system (for a DJ or you can use their Bluetooth and play your own music), light system, industrial fridge, microwave, a built-in selfie or Photo booth green wall, industrial trash cans, tables, and chairs galore. There's also free and plentiful parking located out back, which was a great built-in perk. There are so many things we loved about this space, including the barn door leading to a cute back patio. Great for creating indoor/outdoor space for guests. Ours used it to watch the trains going by, which was a big hit for the kids. The front of the venue is situated right near a loading dock/overhang area, which came decked out with lights and was perfect for our Piñata. There's also space adjacent the loading dock that worked perfectly for a jumper. We really enjoyed renting this space, and our guests absolutely loved it as well. It's the best space for any type of party or event, and worth every penny.
