    Buchanan Restoration & Contracting

There are plenty of extra bits of information that I could post concerning the way that I was…read moretreated when I tried to resolve this issue with the company. For the sake of time, just the facts: The day before Hurricane Helene struck Asheville our basement flooded. I contacted Buchanan Restoration. They sent two techs to our home, who arrived at 9:30 a.m. on September 25th. They plugged in a cheap sump pump, took a deposit for $1,035, which they said they would refund after they provided the final invoice, and left at 9:45 a.m. on the same day - a total of 15 minutes at our home. The pump stopped working the day of the storm when we lost power. After phone service was restored, I called them to pick up their equipment and provide a final invoice. I called multiple times over the following week asking for a final invoice and to release the hold on my credit card. They did not provide an invoice until I filed a complaint with my credit card company. When I did receive the invoice (see attached), they charged $1026.00 to plug in a sump pump and leave within 15 minutes of arriving, during business hours and the day before the storm. I filed a complaint with North Carolina Consumer Protection, which is pending. The office manager offered to reduce the bill to $776 and in return "as a professional courtesy" asked that I drop the consumer complaint, which I did not. Note to those of you considering this company, make sure that you get a quote before you give them any money.

BE WARNED. If Karns accepts your business, you may never get your roof done. I contacted Karns in…read morethe early spring. They came out unannounced to do the estimate and said they would be by in mid-July to do the work. Mid-July came and I asked what day they'd come. They said they had some delays because of weather and that it would be mid-August before they could do the work. Mid-August came and went. Well, now it's November and we still don't have our roof done. They strung me along all summer and well into October before I decided to confront them with my suspicions that they weren't planning to do my roof at all. Once I told them how I felt, they didn't return my phone calls, emails and have basically ended all communication with me. The communication was very poor in the first place and all throughout the process we struggled with it. It's a real testament to the character of the owner that he's never returned my calls or emailed me to defend his point of view. Karns excuses were always weather related, but we didn't have that much rain this summer. I heard stories about them taking on big metal roofing projects so I suspect that they blew me off to do higher paying work. I really resent the fact that they kept stringing me along so that they could do my job at their convenience. Now it's too late to have the roof done before winter. This has to be the worst business I've never done business with. Since they stopped communicating with me I've been told about others who have had similar experiences with Karns but probably don't know how to warn people. So here's my warning to you- please have a backup plan if you decide to get your roof done with Karns because at some point you might need to hire someone that is honest, professional and interested in cultivating good relationships with their customers. Unfortunately, I found out the hard way.
