He also had a very easy going personality and made me feel comfortable in front of the camera. I also suggest paying a little extra for his second photographer/assistant as it made the group portraits between ceremony and reception run smoothly and quickly so that we could enjoy our party. His personality matched well with ours, and the day flowed very smoothly. There were a lot of laughs, at the very beginning during the "getting ready" shots. But as the night progressed I honestly didn't even notice he was there (sorry Steve!). Needless to say, he took some pretty damn amazing photos! We knew his style was different then most photographers. His photos tell a story from beginning to end, more candid and less posed. Yes we did have a quite a few posed photos (have to please the folks), but the candid shots were truly amazing. I look forward to working with him again in the future!

His style of "wedding journalism" captures the realness and raw emotions associated with the day. I went through our photos and was able to relive each and every moment that Steve expertly captured. Most of my friends that have gotten married say that it is so hard to remember your wedding day, especially the small, seemingly insignificant moments that are overshadowed by vows and toasts and dances. What I appreciate about Steve the most was his ability to capture those sweet moments. Hugs from closest friend from college, my mother holding hands with my best friend during our first dance, the look on my dad's face after he walked me down the aisle. These moments are pure gold and I'm so grateful to have them memorialized. In addition to being a great photographer, Steve is just a great guy. I knew from our first conversation that we were going to work well together. I didn't pretend to know what I wanted or how this was supposed to go. He guided me through it and gave me his recommendations on things (the best hours for him to be there, whether or not we should do certain posed photos). He was just the right amount of communicative throughout. During the wedding, I honestly have no idea how he shot so many awesome photos because I didn't notice that a photographer was there. When I chatted with him during the wedding, he felt more like a guest. Our friends and family also commented on how great he is. If you're looking for super polished, riding a unicorn into the sunset kinds of photos, Steve probably isn't for you (although I wouldn't doubt that he has even more skills I don't know about). If you want an honest capture of your big day and photos that tell the story of your wedding, don't look any further. I couldn't imagine being happier with the end result.

I have had the pleasure of having two sittings with him, one for family portraits, and the other for business portraits. Both times, his studio was clean, well organized, and purposeful in every area. He looks at how you are trying to portray yourself and develops strategies to photograph you for those situations. The sittings have an informal feel, but definitely productive. He is constantly looking for new ways to capture you, and new ways to position you so that you get the look you're hoping for. Throughout, he shows you the photos he's taken to get some idea of what works and what you like so that he can continue to expand on those areas. Afterwards, he sends the proofs for you to review, and once you give your feedback, within a day or two Michael gets back to you with the high resolution copies of the photos that have been retouched and finalized. We settled on a custom-made contract that was very reasonable for my extensive request. Wedding day Peter and his assistant showed up on time as contracted. We just got our proofs back (over 1000 edited and all within 30 days of the wedding!) and they are PHENOMENAL! I mean what a magical team those two guys are. For photos that are gallery worthy, ...hire Josiah Hassler Photography!  This man is an artist…read morefirst and foremost and it shows in his work.  We have so many beautiful photos from both our engagement session and our wedding that we are proud to have hanging in our home.  Our only warning is that Josiah has an artist's eye.  He captures moments you wouldn't even think of, but there were some traditional pictures that we felt were missed (just my mom and I posed and smiling, for example).  Such a silly photo that you don't even notice is missing until you go to post a "Happy Mother's Day" post on facebook and realize you don't have it.  We spoke with Josiah post-wedding and gave him our constructive criticism, which he welcomed.  He improves with every wedding he does and is learning how to best navigate the business side of his artistry.  I would recommend him to any bride hoping to capture her Pinterest-Perfect wedding!
