The online pictures of the cabins looked ok. Well. The cabin we were given was a nightmare (see pictures). I MIGHT have booked this if it was $35/night, NOT the price I paid. I never saw the manager or owner when we checked in or when we left. The windows were held together with packing tape, the floor had been melted by something and the sofas looked 25 years old and were dirty. My grandson's fold out bed had a mattress with a huge hole in it and was extremely uncomfortable. It looked like something out of a bad movie. Don't stay here. I would give it zero stars if I could.

The live acoustic music was outstanding and perfectly matched the relaxed lakeside atmosphere. Between the entertainment, craft beverages, and panoramic views of the harbor, it's easy to see why this has become a Grand Marais favorite. The male bartender team was exceptional hardworking, attentive, and always making eye contact to acknowledge guests, even during the busiest rushes. Their professionalism and hospitality stood out. During our six-day visit, the female bartenders seemed less engaged. That said, the overall experience was fantastic. Jeff and Susan Gecas created exactly what they envisioned when they opened The Gun Flint Tavern, a place where people can enjoy great food, craft-brewed beer, wine, live music, and one of the most beautiful views in town. The historic setting overlooking Harbor Park and Grand Marais Harbor only adds to the charm. We highly recommend stopping by for drinks, music, and the rooftop atmosphere. A lot effort went into telling the story of Grand Marais' Civilian Conservation Corps camp, which during the Depression of the 1930s, provided an escape from urban unemployment for many young men. (If only we had a congress willing to enact such programs today.) A replica CCC camp barracks facade features recorded reminiscences from former CCC members and provides a much-needed reminder of how former generations were able to respond to a national crisis. Kids will enjoy sitting in the vintage schoolroom with inkwell holes in the desks. My daughter commented, "these are more comfortable than our desks at school." All in all, the visit well repaid the few dollars and few minutes we spent there.
