There's parking in a paved lot, as well as street parking. Toilets consist of port-a-potties. No running water is available, so bring water as well as a lot of bug spray if you want to do the hike into the more wooded area. You can walk on the breakwater and that leads to the Grand Marais Lighthouse. You cannot enter the lighthouse. While there are stairs leading up, they quickly stop at a locked panel. Stay awhile to view the waves and enjoy the sounds of nature. It's pretty unique to be out on the water on such a narrow structure. As it was foggy when I went out, I couldn't see that far, but I was rewarded with a fogbow.

While it was pretty flat, I don't know if I would've recommended this hike to someone under our circumstances. It's basically a lifted concrete path that's about 3 feet wide with no railing most of the way right over the lake and rocks. For someone with bad balance, this is definitely a risk and my dad wasn't able to make it to the end of the hike because we were too nervous about him falling off the trail. All that said, the views are beautiful and the lighthouse is really cool, though you can't go up into it. The wind was brutal and none of us had enough layers because we didn't realize it would be that intense, but everything was gorgeous so still worth it. It was also interesting reading the billboards about the history of the area, including the tragic shipwreck that resulted in the construction of the levee.

Great for children and folks who don't want to walk far. If you're looking for more, there are several trails you can take! We ended up doing a 4-mile moderate hike to the lookout point in the park - and it delivered with stunning views of Lake Superior and the trees from up high. I'll definitely be doing this one again in the fall for foliage views! I'll let the photos do the talking for this review :) The trails are mostly well-maintained, the scenery is wonderful, and we're so lucky to have yet another stunning, waterfall-laden State Park on the North Shore.

I'd consider it a pretty easy/maintained trail, some roots, moderate incline/declines along the way, but then again we only went 1/4 of a mile to the only not-so moderate decline which leads to a pretty "secluded" spot along the river.. my pup sure loved the break we took there, she even took a dip in the water and the boys were able to try and skip rocks, find some agates, and we even seen some water-spiders. (Aka water gliders I believe.) Overall, LOVELY hike and it also has two one stalled bathrooms (1boys/1girls) which are also in good condition, I remember when they built them not too many years ago.

Ride to the top of the mountain and stay as long as you like. There is a cafe with a few food items and then the equally beautiful ride to descend again. We all really enjoyed it and the workers even offered to take photos of us without being asked. It was relaxing and so worth the money. This hidden gem is worth the treck.

He knew his stuff, I could tell he had been wrenching on bikes for quite awhile. Asked a couple of questions and figured out we knew some of the long time bike people from the twin cities. Was fun to chat with him about Grand Performance and Dan Casebeer. Chatted with him about Walter Croll too. We both had custom bikes from Walter from his early years. Mine is number 17, Jeff's even earlier. The Trek bikes were pretty cool. Peddle assist, you had to actually peddle in order for the bike to help you. The bunks are clean (bring a sleeping bag and pillow), the breakfast is outstanding, and the tows were on-time. The tow guys do your heavy lifting. I think the tow is well worth the price. Cuts off several hours of paddling, often into a headwind. The best part has the new bathrooms/showers. Separate unisex rooms for each, but really functional. Plenty of hot water in the showers, which is much appreciated after a week in a canoe! Can't recommend this place enough.
