Great for off leash permit dogs

Really nice park. The lot is small, but across the road there is Tom Watson parking with hundreds of spaces

    Quite the relaxing atmosphere.

I really really like Coot Lake Open Space. I worked nearby for years before discovering it. It's a one stop shop for the whole family. Fido can go for a swim, you and honey can go on a walk/jog, and there are plenty of benches to chill out on, watch the sunset, and maybe even enjoy a picnic. The parking is a bit sparse and tight (there is a large lot just across the street). While there are signs to keep your dog on leash I often see many dogs off leash. The mosquitoes have been a bit gnarly as of late so definitely cover up those arms and legs, or load up on that bug spray.

This is such a beautiful area with a nice walk around the lake. I always stop to read the poems along the way. The view of the mountains are so beautiful. I'm an influencer and if I need a beautiful product photo, I come here because there is an area right by the parking lot that has such gorgeous views. I included pics from this area. I love it here during the winter and summer months. Wear snow boots if you go during the winter. Sunsets are especially beautiful here too. Most of time, it's not very crowded. I usually see less than 10 people on the whole trail walking their dogs.

Beautiful, serene, quiet and clean! We saw a lot of dogs.. no dog poop! Came across this place while waiting to check-in to our hotel, glad we did. Parking was limited, but across from there is another parking lot to a park that can be utilized for this parking. The frozen lake made it even more beautiful.

Love Coot Lake, it's quite the quiet little spot on the side of the much larger Boulder Reservoir. Best part, is they allow dogs here! Even without a dog, the short trail around the lake is very scenic and shaded in parts. You get great views of the mountains across a light blue turquoise colored lake. It's an easy 10 minutes north of Boulder, tucked away on a side road. There's around 15 spots and bathrooms.

Just got back from a run here with my pooch. Truly spectacular. Thunderheads were rolling around doing their thing in the sky, and the light that was hitting the lake made it a beautiful shade of sapphire. Lots of birds chirping, and on a Monday morning I only saw one other car (maybe that was because of the weather though). Really well-maintained running and walking trails, dogs can be off-leash (with tag of course), and though the Coot Lake trail is only 1.2 miles long, you can connect to the Boulder Res. trail (without having to pay the $6 Boulder Res. Parking fee) and make your run/walk much longer.

What a fabulously unique space you can enjoy with your doggies. This place is perfect for the pups that like to swim. I came on a Wednesday and saw at least 10 wet dogs. The lake is made with inclined edges so the dogs can get out of the water themselves. Lots of unleashed dogs in the area and the trail is long. The lake trail leads to another lake behind it. There are fish in the lake so fishermen were also seen here. I don't know of another place like this that is so perfect for swimming dogs. It's a dog recreational pool!

    Beautiful!

Wonderful! 1.3 miles around the lake, perfect distance for me and my older dog. There are long stretches with no shade, but plenty of benches for rest. Restrooms available and lots of great mountain views! Love it!

Coot Lake- as you can see my dog loved it here!

Best dog lake near Denver! Puts Chatfield and Cherry Creek to shame. Loved going with my pups and letting them swim their little hearts out!

Great place for a casual stroll. It's just outside of Boulder and great for dogs. Across the street is a great park for the kiddos.

Our hike was extra special because it was led by Maria the Park Ranger. Maria's knowledge and passion for Chautauqua was incredible to witness. You can tell these mountains mean so much to her! We learned about the landscape, wildlife, Natives, and so much more. Our hike was simple but we saw so much along the way. The views of the flatirons are hard to beat. The path was busy but it was a beautiful saturday morning and it still didn't feel overly crowded. We saw lots of doggies, runners, and families and friends meeting for a morning hike to kick off their weekend. It was pure magic. I hope I get to come back one day!!

I'm a tourist and the like and I enjoyed it! We lucked into parking on a beautiful, busy Saturday morning. They have very nice restrooms at the Ranger station, and more overflow port a potties around if needed too. The nearby trail is highly accessible and it doesn't take long for some views to pay off. It's a decently steep incline, but nothing crazy at all. Once you're into the trees the shade helps against the thin air and the sun, and it's so quiet and serene. No mosquitoes like I'm used to back home. Loved all the birds (shoutout magpies) and also seeing everyones' dogs.

But a friend who likes to walk there too, offered me the option to do it today. She used to live nearby Viele Lake but now has moved to my neighborhood. We headed out mid-morning and though it was a cool, slightly wet start, it warmed up quite quickly when the sun was fully out. My friend had heard that there was a heron in residence this year and we found it on our first turn. We also saw a tree near the bridge that had snagged some debris from fishing supplies. I was unaware that fishing is allowed there. The view of the Flatirons backdrop of Boulder is fully complete from this lakeside path. It's especially beautiful at sunrise and sunset. Unfortunately, like most summers, there were a lot of droppings from the resident geese. Beware, even on paved surfaces.

With out of town guests who wanted to see it, we went up with them today which was hot even by 9am. Not ideal for me. There was adequate parking in a small lot on the south side of the Canyon, just before the crossover to the entrance to the short but steep hike.Being a Monday morning, not very busy. Be aware that weekends are extremely busy and not enough parking. I believe that the trail has been improved some over the years from our past memory of it. There are actually some steps cut into the steepest of the rock surfaces and some heavy duty chain handrails in the areas with he steepest drop off. We saw little kids as well as grandparents. so if I can still do it, many others can. Cooler weather would have been nice. The waterfall is quite pretty. It was roaring even in a drought because of a few heavy rains last weekend and such hot weather in this climate change era that the snow pack in the mountains is melting too quickly this summer.
