Nice open space to walk the dogs, run, fish with the kiddos, or just sit with a to go order of food and enjoy the views. Unfortunately the parking lot is extra small right now because they're doing construction... 4 standard and 1 accessible space is all they have right now right on the water. Across the street is a larger parking area though and that's got plenty of spaces. Very dog friendly trail so if your pup is extra chaotic around others might want to have that in mind. The piece I traversed didn't have much shade so recommend sunglasses and a hat at the very least. Enjoy! read more

Trail is beautiful, great views, well maintained, lovely lake. Minimal shade. Only 2 trash cans on the trail for your dogs poopies until parking lot. (South side). There's only bring your own and/or share poop bags so you'll need to have your own. There is not an actual "beach" for dogs to swim at, there are several spots they can get in and play or swim. (Rocky though) There's a lot of people on the trail. Yes you can have your dogs off leash just make sure they have good recall, keep a close eye on them and that they're good with others dogs before letting them off. read more

I really really like Coot Lake Open Space. I worked nearby for years before discovering it. It's a one stop shop for the whole family. Fido can go for a swim, you and honey can go on a walk/jog, and there are plenty of benches to chill out on, watch the sunset, and maybe even enjoy a picnic. The parking is a bit sparse and tight (there is a large lot just across the street). While there are signs to keep your dog on leash I often see many dogs off leash. The mosquitoes have been a bit gnarly as of late so definitely cover up those arms and legs, or load up on that bug spray. read more

This is such a beautiful area with a nice walk around the lake. I always stop to read the poems along the way. The view of the mountains are so beautiful. I'm an influencer and if I need a beautiful product photo, I come here because there is an area right by the parking lot that has such gorgeous views. I included pics from this area. I love it here during the winter and summer months. Wear snow boots if you go during the winter. Sunsets are especially beautiful here too. Most of time, it's not very crowded. I usually see less than 10 people on the whole trail walking their dogs. read more

Beautiful, serene, quiet and clean! We saw a lot of dogs.. no dog poop! Came across this place while waiting to check-in to our hotel, glad we did. Parking was limited, but across from there is another parking lot to a park that can be utilized for this parking. The frozen lake made it even more beautiful. read more

Love Coot Lake, it's quite the quiet little spot on the side of the much larger Boulder Reservoir. Best part, is they allow dogs here! Even without a dog, the short trail around the lake is very scenic and shaded in parts. You get great views of the mountains across a light blue turquoise colored lake. It's an easy 10 minutes north of Boulder, tucked away on a side road. There's around 15 spots and bathrooms. read more

Just got back from a run here with my pooch. Truly spectacular. Thunderheads were rolling around doing their thing in the sky, and the light that was hitting the lake made it a beautiful shade of sapphire. Lots of birds chirping, and on a Monday morning I only saw one other car (maybe that was because of the weather though). Really well-maintained running and walking trails, dogs can be off-leash (with tag of course), and though the Coot Lake trail is only 1.2 miles long, you can connect to the Boulder Res. trail (without having to pay the $6 Boulder Res. Parking fee) and make your run/walk much longer. read more

What a fabulously unique space you can enjoy with your doggies. This place is perfect for the pups that like to swim. I came on a Wednesday and saw at least 10 wet dogs. The lake is made with inclined edges so the dogs can get out of the water themselves. Lots of unleashed dogs in the area and the trail is long. The lake trail leads to another lake behind it. There are fish in the lake so fishermen were also seen here. I don't know of another place like this that is so perfect for swimming dogs. It's a dog recreational pool! read more

Jumped on to Yelp to look for a place to take my dog for a swim and Yelpers highly recommended Coot. So we hopped in to the truck with the dog for a 30 minute drive, which of course he loves, and arrived at Coot. Parked, crossed the road, and once we crossed over the little wooden bridge, let our dog off his leash. Man did he have a great time! He met so many friendly dogs, we met so many friendly folks, and the lake AND pond provided some great swimming for my dog. Thank you again Yelpers for another great recommendation! read more

Lordy Lordy! Coot lake has everything a pup could wish for! Water, tall grasses, other dogs, and a plethora of sticks for fetching (we don't do balls as my dogs are great at chasing, but retrieving isn't their forte). The kids (aka pups) and I come here about 3 or 4 times a week, for a a good hour+ stroll. We walk around the lake, and then over to the res, and then back to the lake for a final swim. Normal Boulder leash laws apply, so make sure that you have a voice and sight tag if you plan on letting Fido run free. I also suggest a bowl of water as the lake water is very tempting for our furry friends but tends to give them some tummy problems. I frequent here now and again during lunch as it's just a 5 minute drive from the office. It's a great place to bring your dog, as there are always lots of dogs here splashing around in the lake. There also plenty of people here who walk or jog the trails and sometimes ride their bikes. On a nice clear day the back drop of the mountains is just perfect. This park is a great place to head with your dog. Haven't had a problem yet with any other dogs. Oddly, some people fish on the north side of the lake, but I've never seen a problem between dogs and fishers, even when we're throwing sticks and balls in for fetching. Our little girl loves walking down the trails and throwing a stick for our dog into the lake too. Plenty of space, plenty of parking at and across the street. Not too crowded. Pretty clean, although some dog walkers don't understand their obligation to clean up after themselves. read more

I come here everyday for lunch to sit on the bench, eat my lunch, look at the mountains, watch the geese, and watch the dogs chase the balls into the lake. It seems like a good walking/running area and you can also bike there around the lake. There are plenty of people fishing from the pier and all around the lake, don't know what type or how big the fish are, but it must be good since there are always people doing it. The MAJOR COMPLAINT I have is that the ciry NEVER cuts the grass, it is seriously like stomach high and has made most of the benches around the lake unusable. Really wish they would maintain it better. Definitely a must try park. read more

I've lived in Longmont for years, but have missed this gem of a lake. My dog and I have hit it up twice in three days. What a great place to bring the kids for a casual walk and a generous portion of mother nature. The wetlands are wonderful to walk beside, and make for some very nice photos. We saw a coyote off in the distance, just posing for a picture. I have to also point out that it is wheelchair accessible, with only one gentle slope to tackle. I think I'll treat Mom to a picnic here on her birthday... read more

We used to love Coot Lake. When people thought it was a Boulder County Park it was very popular. Then the Daily Camera ran an article announcing that Coot Lake had started being patrolled by the City of Boulder animal control on a daily basis. The animal control officers were issued bicycles for the area so they could cover all areas frequently. They issued tickets to dog owners. I'm sure the dog owners were unaware that it was controlled by the City of Boulder and were not aware that Boulder's stringent rules applied. We immediately stopped going and noticed a significant decrease in the number of people, and especially the people with dogs going to the park (as we drive by often). It is a shame that the City of Boulder has encroached on Longmont and Boulder County and decided to have animal control officers at this park at all times. There were no problems at the park. All dogs and people were well behaved and thoughtful. But, the last thing I want in a relaxing walk with my dog is harassment from an animal control officer. read more
