If you're looking to become a plant mom/dad this is your spot. Whether you want indoor our outdoor babies, they got you covered. From rare seedlings to rare looking plants, you can purchase just about anything here - even lil chicks (just don't eat them). If you love the bees and want to save the world by planting beautiful gardens for them and letting them pollinate away, you can buy special lil flowers for them or even start them up from the seed. My wife and older son went to Copia to buy a tree for his Coast Guard station. My wife asked the owner if they might receive a discount for the tree, since it would be planted at the Station. He was shockingly, breathtakingly rude. My wife pointed out that "Coasties" risk their lives to save others, to which he responded, "Well, I volunteer!" (I very much doubt his volunteering entails risking his life.) The owner was so rude that our son, who is very polite and respectful, had to say, "Do not speak to my mother that way." The owner could have said politely that a discount was simply not possible: there was no need for him to be so abusive. We have bought many plants and flowers at Copia -- but will never return. read more

Jen and Pete have always gone above and beyond with us when we purchase our garden needs from us. Since it's a family business, it's also dependent on the number of sales assistants they can get on any given day. To me, delays during a visit have always been minor. What you're paying for a Copia is the family's extensive knowledge of native plants and ways to have beautiful grounds without introducing invasives, and how to deal with pests (the bug kind, not the human ones.) This is the best garden center in the overall Bedford/ Katonah area. I always find something here to add to my garden, or to put in pots. It's refreshing to visit, not just to buy but to stroll. Over the last 5+ years we have spent thousands of dollars there... firewood, Christmas Trees, to ornamental trees for the garden, soil, pots, holiday ornaments, gifts, etc. This is why today's experience was so incredibly wrong. We had purchased metal fence stakes to build a deer fence around our veggie garden, but they didn't end up working for us. We didn't even put 1 in the ground. Before making the purchase, I made sure to double check several times that if the product didn't work for us that I could return them. The woman who was helping (part owner I believe) me insured that they were indeed returnable and that I just needed the receipt which was emailed to us. Upon returning the product the owner said they don't do returns and that they were only going to give us store credit. No matter how much we communicated with them that their policy was miscommunicated to us, they refused to budge. In the end, the best they did was to give us a portion. This is sad and frustrating, as we always like to support our local businesses. How much they are willing to dig in and lose a customer over a miscommunication on the part of their staff is a real disappointment. read more

The reviews stating how rude the staff is rang 100% true for me a month ago. In a world where we are so quick to complain, I was hesitant to write this. But this experience has been "sticking" with me. I'm sure, like the others who complained how rude Pete is, this review will be met with a snarky statement from Copia...not taking blame or ownership of THEIR behavior, but will place it back on the customer. Just read other past complaints and the responses from Copia, and you will see this is always how they operate. I went for sod with my 9 month old in the car. The staff told me to go around to the back to pick up the sod, and I did, as instructed. After a few minutes of waiting (not a big deal) my baby began to fuss and I had to get out to give her a bottle. Remember, babies must be seated in the back of the car. Perhaps this came across as me being impatient? Getting out of my car was not allowed? Not at ALL the case. Rather than asking what I needed, I was met with "you need to wait your turn! I have 6 customers here!" I actually thought his remarks were meant for someone else!! Nope. Meant for ME. So I kindly said, "ohhhh...I don't need sod anymore." And he called me, and the rest of the town, entitled! Im a mom to a special needs child and teach music lessons to children of ALL abilities. My home is small and I work hard. Im the EXACT opposite. If you're up for insults being thrown at you, Copia is your spot!!!! I wish I could give this place negative stars!!!! read more

I think what rings true with a lot of the reviews is that Copia's owner is consistently rude to the customers. I have witnessed this occurrence on several occasions and now was the victim. Not sure what is bothering Jenn, her willingness to offer help or expertise comes with the price of her curt, snide, and unprofessional manner, from clients to customers. Their merchandise may be good, but their business and customer service lacks any education or friendly rapport. Really poor form to treat customers with such childish conduct. All completely unnecessary, it's plants we are discussing. I debated whether to even bother writing a review, but the nursery is pricey, so your money should be supporting local businesses that offer quality product AND GOOD relations. Shopping for flowers should be a pleasant experience, not a dread. Steer clear. read more

We are doing a large landscaping project in our home and went around to garden centers and nurseries recommended by friends and neighbors. We wanted to support a local nursery during the pandemic. My husband and I knew we were going to spend a large sum of money buying plants, trees and shrubs. So we went to six garden centers within 50 mile radius without buying anything observing plant selections and customer service. After spending two weekends visiting nurseries, we decided to support Copia Home and Garden and here is why. The first time we arrived, we were greeted by a woman and asked us if we needed help just like in the department store. We browsed around and was going to buy few plants and started asking the staff questions. She answered our questions but quickly referred us to another person for more information. Then we met Peter. Peter was busy doing something but quickly gave us information about the plant that prevented us from buying the plant. He then made a recommendation for another plant that suit our need. We continued browsing and Peter returned to us and spent close to an hour answering questions and giving a tour to show us different tree selections. The next weekend, we were back for more and was asking for Peter to help us. We didn't get Peter. John helped us and was just as helpful and knowledgeable. We never felt rush and didn't feel bad that we didn't get Peter. We've been back every weekend since selecting plants one section at a time to finish our landscaping project. If you are looking to support local businesses with great plant selections and an excellent customer service, Copia is the place to go. They installed all our trees with one year warranty. My husband and I have been going to Copia's since they opened. Jenn, who is one of the owners is angry and rude 8 out of ten times. I recently confronted her...her response was that they need to be short and CURT to their customers because they are busy and tired. They have a good product, not the best service. read more

We are locals to the area and have been going to Copia since it opened. I have to admit, i read the negative reviews and quite frankly think everyone is insane. We have had nothing short of a pleasurable experience every single time we've shopped here, and that's almost every week. Do they get busy on weekends, yes, but that means they're doing something right. They are super knowledgeable, extremely helpful and their plants are top quality. Peter sold my parents and I $3000 worth of "a new hybrid boxwood" that he swore would not get blight (a disease he said plagued boxwood in the area). I told him none of my many existing boxwood on the 3 acres we have had blight and he said it didn't matter because it could spread from miles away. Curious why we needed this considering my over 50 boxwood plants on the property were healthy, I still trusted Peters advicand he ordered us the more expensive version. Plants arrived and were planted and a few months later only Peters boxwood had sever blight and was spreading it to my other plants. Peter had a million excuses none of which we care about since all we know is his affirmation at point of sale that these would remain blight free. We contacted American Express about this sale and his dealings and Peter responded to their inquiry with blurry photos of our healthy plants on the property with lies and false evidence that they had blight. Peter is a liar and commits fraud when he feels necessary. I've heard this from many in the area and other businesses similar to his. He is not the only game in town and given these other reviews he should be careful. I'm not a litigious person but I'd be happy to take him for a ride with a team I already have on retainer to not only get what is due for the diseased plants he sold us, but the damage those plants did to my property and also the labor it takes to fully rectify this entire situation start to finish. AVOID THIS PLACE. Please shop at Pound Ridge Nursery, valley view nursery which is only a short drive north, and Sam Bridge in Greenwich which has the best quality, the nicest people and will help you when there are problems. And yes, the other reviews are true, they are rude there. read more

We were customers from the beginning. We were glad to see a young family make a go of a business. They were in our neighborhood and we wanted them to succeed. His company has grown now to the point were he seems to think he doesn't need customers anymore. I stopped in for some grass seed a few weeks ago and stood at the counter waiting for help for some time, there was a lady with a clip board and a large cart filled with flowers, I asked if she worked there and was told she used to and she went back to what she was doing. A minute or two later she asked what I needed, I told her and a voice from the back of the store yelled it's over there...where she was pointing I don't know because I couldn't see her. I left, saw the owner in the lot and told him the story he wanted me to come back in, but I was in my car and on my way out of the parking lot. Today I was stupid enough to try again. We saw the owner who proceeded to berate and insult me. Instead of saying I'm glad you decided to try us again he basically dismissed us. We had a cart filled with stuff but just left after our encounter. Funny that the lady he said helped me with the grass seed is the lady who said she didn't work there anymore. She didn't help, she ignored. There are plenty of other nurseries around...pass this one by if you care about customer service. read more
