Went in for a $5000 loan on a $30,000 clean title as collateral. My DTI was just over their threshold even though I have all of my banking with them and plenty of available income to repay the loan. I currently do ALL of my banking with them so you would think with 4x loan amount as collateral and a consistent income it wouldn't be an issue. Yet their underwriters refused to make an exception. I could understand if i was a credit risk but at a 48 month term the monthly payment is 1/10th of one of my paychecks. Find a better bank. read more

I am very unhappy with this credit Union. They used to be okay when they were Linn area now it's corta now they are hard to deal with and do not work with their customers. When I asked to speak with the supervisor I wasnt allowed to talk to one Their ATM was down I was not able to put money in I was charged an overdraft fee and they refused to remove it even though it was their fault. Today, I saw my account $-1000, clearly very strange, especially because my account doesn't let me go negative at all. So I called, wound up talking Kristen & Laura- huge mistake. These two are the snottiest, most self serving people I've ever spoken to at LACU. They accused me of causing the fraud on my account, saying "so who did you give you account information to? Because fraud doesn't just *happen*". Are you fucking kidding me? You work at a bank & you're telling me fraud "doesn't happen!?" It happens everyday, that's what I pay YOU with my membership fees to help me do- asses & solve the fraud. Laura called me an hour later saying I better help her with the investigation cause she's calling the police- I told her please fucking do, that's what I've been begging you to do all morning. Only then did she say she'll try to get the IP addresses that logged into my account; & she still said it's my fault & locked me out of my account. These two were playing phone tag with me & talked about me when they didn't have me muted, I heard them saying they didn't wanna deal with me, etc. I had to beg & plead for them to assume the best in me, like I PAY THEM TO DO & help me with the fraud instead of accuse me of it. My father called & Laura had a completely different attitude, she told him it's no big deal & this happens all the time! Very convenient. I hope they keep the same energy, because I got our conversations on tape of them ACCUSING me of the fraud, & I'll be taking it to the better business bureau! These two deserve to be fired. I purchased a new travel trailer financed by Linn Credit Union with monthly payments at $155 dollars a month. There online banking is a nightmare so I would call in my payment every month. A few months ago when making my monthly payment the associate on the phone asks if I want to pay the remaining monthly balance I had no clue what he was talking about. Apparently Linn Credit Union added insurance to my loan and added all of the months prior without insurance.. I don't travel in the trailer it's on my property while building my home. They never said anything about insurance and just added it on to the loan. Furthermore the rate they are charging for insurance is outrageous. I was told by a banker there that if I got my own insurance they would stop any further charges. I wish that were true but unfortunately its not I'm now paying for 2 insurances because Linn Credit Union is saying that I owe back payments for the insurance and once I become current as well as having my own insurance the payments will be back to $155 dollars BUT until I'm current I have to have it insured. Basically I have to pay 2 insurance policies until I'm current which will be in about 6 months. I'm very disappointed in the way this was handled and I don't like doing business with Linn Credit Union who is now Corda Cu. I do not recommend this business. read more

The app for Linn area Credit Union is not reliable. After I was finally able to get in touch with a live person about this they responded as though it was my problem. When I asked about others contacting them about thisThey indicated that there weren't any. I also have had problems with the on line banking app. When I went to the branch I was told it was probably my phone. I did not have any issues until they upgraded this spring I think it was. Thought I was the only one until I've seen in reviews that other people are also having the same issue. Today I'm currently locked out. Usually I can uninstall and reinstall and then it works but that is such a pain as I explained to the teller. Otherwise LACU has been a good bank for me. They did take too long to get back to me on the home mortgage and I did that somewhere else. Obviously when you're ready to purchase a home you want to get financing as quickly as possible. read more

I used to love this bank, and we have had mortgages through them for almost a decade. Since February 2020, they have been erroneously reporting missed payments to the credit bureau. When I inquired, they notified me that the escrow went up but they did not inform me nor did they change my payment. They said they would fix it. They didn't, and reported another missed payment in April. My husband went into the branch, during a pandemic, to sort this out. It was sorted out and my credit was fixed. Today I just got another notification that I now have THREE missed mortgage payments, when I indeed do not. I cannot wait to move our mortgage to another bank next month. These people have no idea what they're doing and they're messing with livelihoods. read more

(Mainly from their 30$ fee they tacked on to each one). When I asked what could be done, or if I could file for fraudulent charges, they told me there was nothing I or they, could do. I was later told that I would have needed to contact both paypal, and the backing company and provide proof of that so they could submit it to VISA, but by this time, it had been too long. They have given out my roommates account information to me, without asking for verification. They saved him from those 30 dollar fees, but not myself. They did not update the phone number on record for him, but used money from his account under "Right to offset", but neither of us knew til the 200 dollars suddenly went missing. We received no mail notification about it. Nor phonecalls. When I started digging for information, and climbing up the corporate ladder to get answers, I was treated very rudely and shut down at almost every turn, until I finally got ahold of the overseeing manager for all branches and told her what had gone on. She assured me that the behavior would be corrected, but this has destroyed my trust in this bank, and I will not be banking there in the future, I suggest others steer clear as well. Purchased a trailer from a guy for a move I will be making across country soon, we met at the bank exchanged the money with a teller filled out the paperwork so the bank could send me the title they said it's in the mail. That was 3 going on 4 weeks ago. I move in 9 days. And the bank can't give me anything useful as to where my trailer title is this isnt something you should have to worry about with a bank. I wouldn't give them any money for safe keeping they may misplace that too. read more

These folks currently have the best rates in the Iowa City/Cedar Rapids area. While they don't have the number of locations of other credit unions in the area, they are personable and quite helpful. We're glad we switched from a bank to Linn Area Credit Union! read more

Overall, I have been okay with LACU. I just had an incident where I had inadvertently scheduled two payments of $2366.50 to my credit card company. The payments came in to LACU together and they processed them both resulting in an overdraft to my account with a $30 fee. I spoke to two representatives and questioned why they wouldn't see that those successive payments didn't make sense.In robot fashion they explained to me that the computer doesn't check for such things. Their customer service people should learn to not try to talk over the customer. I guess once they have programmed the computer, they're not ever going to change programming to add more intelligence to it. The LACU can now incur the expense of processing my checks used to pay my credit card. read more

Poor service, frequent clerical errors, website for online banking is almost constantly down or experiencing technical difficulties. If you don't mind frequently losing access to your money, or having your money randomly disappear, then by all means, use this credit union. read more

Online Banking and Customer Service are not good. They don't respond promptly to requests or questions. Especially requests. Some time there is no response at all. It is also easy to pass the buck because they have another online service that processes payments with their online banking. If they have to mail a check instead of an electronic transfer, it can take up to 9 days for the payee to receive it. Such as my payment for car insurance, due 12/20 and paid 12/29. read more

We've banked with Collins Credit Union for many years and were getting so-so service so we investigated Linn Area. We love them! I called for rates on loans and was put on hold for over 10 minutes with Collins. Linn Area responded within 1 minute. This is just one example of how Linn Area has exceeded our expectations. God forbid you need any help fixing a problem. Good ol' J***** will tell you to use cashier's checks after they WRONGLY take money out of your account causing it to become overdrawn. This is the last straw after a series of problems with this bank including having to come in multiple times to correct loan paperwork that they screwed up on, the loan officer forgetting an appointment and taking a late lunch right when we were supposed to meet with her, and taking too long on mortgage paperwork on a rush job. We went through a different company for our mortgage and then the officer at Linn acted upset that we didn't give him a chance. read more

terrible service from the actual bankers not to mention that i constantly have to go in because of random charges they put on my account for no reason i asked a female banker once and shes like i dont know what it was for theres no reason listed. also dont try using your card after 10pm there servers or something cant be reached and any money you take out of an atm charges an overdraft fee even though i have plenty of money in checking and savings also you have to pay 1.50 per card transaction after 5 uses in a month i would never ever ever ever go back to this place read more

I have been happy with Linn Area Credit Union for all of my personal and commercial loans and use them for my checking as well. However, the coin machine is my only compliant. I deposit my laundry coin but the change machine has been broken for 3 weeks at the Blairs Ferry Road branch. I have taken my coin in 5 times now and each time it has an out of order sign on it and I keep making wasted trips. They either need a 2nd machine or another solution as I can't keep lugging coin around back and forth. The teller's response was that it has not been broken for 3 weeks but I know it has - maybe up for a day then down again but each time I go in it's out of service. The teller said to take it to another branch. Well I tried that once and guess what that machine was out of order too. I don't plan on driving all over - just get the machine fixed. As a loyal customer and a good customer there should be another solution. No other solution was offered but keep coming in and checking - ummm could you call when it is working or something! read more
