I went here for a Halloween party, which was good, had they decorated the venue in a spooky nature. They also have a bar, and toilets which were small, and when it's busy you have to wait in line. I felt the venue was a mission to get to, because it was deep in Hackney, and we did get a little lost, but you forget all that when you get in. If you know where London fields are then you are fine. So here's the deal, I'll write this and you'll appreciate it but never actually set foot it this place..okay? Good! I discovered this club/venue through my far too cool flatmate and we went on Halloween. It was like a huge house party full of your friends in some of the most horrific fancy dress I have ever seen. They have a small stage at the front where local artists perform alongside burlesque dancers for a truly eye opening experience. The place is filled with party people who dress funny even when they aren't in fancy dress and the drinks are cheap enough to get drunk on £20. That is after playing a whooping £10 to get in. Since that night I have been back a few times and every time I do it gets harder to get in. The queues are longer and the door staff ruder, in fact this Halloween we got there and they wouldn't even let us in at all. At 7pm (and I like to say that the normal starting time for things like this is about 11pm) there was over 200 people outside all waiting. We were not one of the lucky ones. So if I have had all of this trouble why so many star? It will still always be an amazing mixture of students, artists and free thinkers out for a good night with like minded people in a historic venue. There is even a Banksy painted on one side of it's wall. I wish more places would be like this so that we could all fit in!

Admittedly, this happened to be on the night of The Vagina Monologues performance and the crowd was teeming with lesbians and feminists, so that might explain the decor. We waited almost two hours in the rain, barely moving in line, and I really needed to use the bathroom but kept holding it because we were finally close to the front. My girlfriend handed me my ID, and when I followed her under the line divider to get back in our spot, the security guard saw her give me my ID and still shoved me out of the line with no warning at all. I wasn't trying to cut or cause any issues -- we'd already been waiting the whole time. When my girlfriend tried to ask what was going on, he shoved her too, again without saying a word. It was completely uncalled for and honestly really upsetting. To make things worse, two of our friends went inside and paid extra without even telling us, after we had all waited together. The whole situation was chaotic, unprofessional, and handled terribly. Between the lack of communication, poor organization, and aggressive security, this was one of the worst nights out I've had in London. I have never gotten kicked out of a night club or shoved! WOW

I found the beer to be not of the best quality, but I guess that goes with the overall vibe of the place. Although there is no food menu, I politely asked the barman if I could bring in some chips from the shop down the road and he had no problems with that. Besides, rather than sitting down to a meal, eating hot chips with a pint seems like a more appropriate thing to do in this establishment. The beer garden is a nice amalgamation of styles. Part western saloon with the balcony, part sauna with the wooden decking, and part tropical with the palm trees, it makes for a quirky setting. It is quite during the day, and from Monday til Wednesday it is quite at night. Thursday to Sunday nights are its busiest time (as with most pubs). Sunday nights in particular, the place really gets going due to Karaoke night that is held. Sunday nights can be a lot of fun at the Dolphin, but they can also be quite trashy. It often seems that a few of the clients may be still carrying on the big party from the night before.

The initial disappointment of having to run out of a warehouse with a few hundred other screaming Shoredicks was very much alleviated by a nice cold pint at this wonderful establishment. It has everything a good pub should have; pool table, big screen TV, smoking garden, beer, fun, free crisps and lots of people. The centrally placed bar gives the place a kind of merry-go-round effect, it's always packed so you end up dancing around the bar like it's a massive maypole decorated with beer pumps instead of ribbons and flowers. I get the feeling that a lot of the people who frequent the dolphin may dabble in illegal substances, however this adds a certain something to the atmosphere and means in general that everyone is very, very friendly.

Ben and I had chosen coloured contacts (me in black, him in white) as our added weapons. Slimelight is a big, members only goth club. If you're a non-member, there are two ways to get in: know a member, or look the part. We looked the part. As well as many dance rooms (with varieties of music: Ben and I liked the ravey room best), the club also serves food (they had a barbecue!), has pool tables, many bars, and runs occasional events: we were privy to goth bingo, and participated in karaoke! Brilliant. Mainly, I loved dancing in the electronic style room because the UV lighting made my outfit look AWESOME. As far as karaoke goes, I went for a nerve-wracking rendition of Love Cats, and later on, my friend Sas and I teamed up for a blinding performance of 99 Red Balloons. Super friendly people, many with elaborate Goth outfits. Crowd includes all ages from 60 year old veterans to 20 year olds, and everyone is having fun with quality Gothic rock, ebm and industrial music. I hope I get to keep on coming here for many more years. Since someone asked, I'll clarify that the Slimelight is on every Saturday from 2300 til very late. Sometimes there are also pre club shows from artists in the Gothic and Industrial scene, in which case a ticket for the show will also get you into the club. Other nights of the week the venue operates under different names for different purposes.

The great thing was that you didn't have to swim, and if you did, it would cost an extra five pound, that would get you access to the pool and a towel. I do enjoy a swim, but I tend to go swimming pools at fitness centres, costing a lot less. The last time I went to the Club Aquarium was for an after party, we got the at 6 am and left at around 10 am, so it's a venue that provides a challenge, to party all night. It is a very well known venue with a great sound system, so it often has top DJ's performing. It is only a few minutes walk from Old Street Tube, so if your in the Old Street area and the club you were at shut at 4am, you can make your way to the Aquarium, chill there, watch people swim, have a drink, and by the time you do all that through the crowd, the underground would have opened. It is the only club in the UK to have a pool, it's a novelty and worth a visit. Definitely suggest the morning after party's.

This place generally attracts friendly, possilby slightly perverted people eager for the opportunity to see someone in a two-piece. Music-wise each night is different and offer alternatively cheesy pop, electro, funky house and disco so it's always best to check for the night that suits you best. Drinks are fairly expensive but pretty standard for this club strewn area of London. A nice place to come with a group of mates but because of its novelty it's unlikely to become a regular to many.
