It's part of the Antic stable of pubs, they have several around, mainly south, London. They serve a variety of beers, local brews/craft beers and the such like. This one is located on a busy high street, that has good transport links and being a former whether spoons you know the location must work, although not sure why it went from being a stick know what you are getting from whether spoons to a trendy pub. So they have done the refurbishment thing and made the inside trendy, in line with the current trend for gastro pubs. Some exposed brick work, some abstract art on the walls along with a shelf full of old tea cups and condiment jars. The space internal space is big with lots seating areas, some more comfortable than others, a mix of booths, normal tables and high chairs/high bench seats and tables. The food, as far as I have experienced is ok, if you sit to the left hand side of the pub(facing the bar as you walk in) you can see the kitchen and staff hard at work, well depending on what time of day you venture in. The menu has the usual variety, fish, burger, steak and veggie option. I think most will be able to find something to eat and drink in here. They have a good wine list to go alongside the beers and spirits. Time will tell if it works given where it is based.

Easily the best pub in central Croydon (not that that is saying a lot, but it is nice). There's been a pub here since at least 1595, when it was called the Bell: it's something of a surprise that the history of Croydon goes back that far, but it does. The animal pound at the back eventually gave rise to a meat trade - the street used to be known as Butcher's Row and the cattle and carcases were kept in the Dog and Bull yard. The current building dates back to the 18th Century and is grade II listed, with a plain but handsome red and blue brick exterior and traditional pub frontage, with lead-light glass windows. Surrey Street hosts a good, old-fashioned street market with good-value fruit and veg, and lots of local 'colour'. The interior is plain but handsome, with no hint of pretension: bare wood floors and wooden furniture, and a plain wooden bar counter. It's as far from 'designer' styling as you can get. The main room as you enter has an island bar servery, and there's a room off to the side and a smaller one at the back (with a TV, but it's not intrusive). A big bonus (and a big surprise) is the large, leafy garden at the back - perfect in summer. They serve the full range of Young's Beers - on my visit this included Young's Ordinary, Special and Winter Warmer. The pub is a favourite of the local Campaign for Real Ale branch, and deservedly so as the beers are well kept. They serve food for most of the day (Mon-Sat) and on Sunday lunchtimes, and have filled rolls available behind the bar the rest of the time. The emphasis is firmly on traditional pub favourites with no frills - sausages and mash, fish and chips, cauliflower cheese - and is both good value and pretty good. Staff are friendly and efficient, and it attracts a real mix of clientele. Overall, a great place for a good pint. It's a minute from either the George Street or Church Street tram stops, or 5-10 minutes' walk from East Croydon station.

The interior is authentic and thankfully hasn't been modernised; they serve well-kept real ale (Young's Winter Warmer at the moment being especially nice); the staff are friendly and efficient; the punters are unpretentious; there's a great beer garden for the summer; and the food is unfussy and appetising. During the week it gets busy when the market is going, but it's a quieter venue in the evenings.

Though it is a Fuller's pub they usually have at least one guest ale on and the standard London Pride and ESB. The interior of the pub has been done up to look like a stereotypical English Pub, dark wood with two bars, one with bar stools and a dart board the other with comfy leather seats near a fireplace. There is a small dining area near the back of the pub that you must walk through to get to the garden. The garden is stunning, small and fairly secluded but lined with flowers and crawling ivy upon a brick wall. It is the perfect place to sit when the sun is out. The only downside to this place is the price of a pint of real ale £3.79. Though the more I think about it the more grateful I should be that it is less that £4. Every time I go I do manage to say to myself "That's not too bad for a pint" but that could be me trying to convince myself. For a night out, it would be very pricey but for two pints in a pub £7 isn't half bad. The bar staff have always been friendly and smiling and the regulars are always willing to chime in on a joke or two if you're purchasing a pint. I have not been at night though I imagine it will be a fairly popular and fairly busy pub. We managed to go around 6:30 pm a few days ago and there were a fair few people sitting outside. Overall, if you have time during the day and it is beautifully sunny outside I would recommend coming here for a good proper pint in a gorgeous beer garden.

Such a fun spot. I had heard a lot about The Plough and wanted to see it for myself. Even though I had come in on a slow night I was still treated better than I had ever been in any American pub. Plus it's on the Peep Show tour path in Croydon so had to make the special pilgrimage. Highly recommended!

After being here for four weeks, we stopped in yesterday afternoon to make it happen. I ordered the chicken/pork mix and my husband went with the beef. Each main came with sides of cooked veggies, Yorkshire pudding, golden roasties, all covered in a house-made gravy. Our portions were generous and the gravy, for me, was the highlight; the combination of the potato chunks dipped into the gravy, letting it soak into them, was divine! These two dishes, plus a beer for my husband, came to £26 total. The vibe was casual, with patrons just hanging out at tables, spread out throughout the place. There is a back patio, but we felt it was a bit chilly to dine outside, so we went with an indoor high table in-between the bar and one of the windows facing out front. We truly felt like we got a taste of a typical Sunday afternoon at the local pub. Note: We ordered and paid at the same time up at the bar.
