This is a reallyyyy great church! I've been coming for a few years consistently now and I enjoy Pastor G's word. I know most people don't like the church because they are "too political" and I'll agree they do talk about a lot of political points. However, the Bible teaches that we should also stay educated on the political views. I just wish they gave the facts and left it at that rather than making it seem like both parties don't suck hahaha. I know we gotta pick either way but sometimes they joke about the democratic parties flaws when the Republican Party has its flaws as well. I do love the fact that he preaches from the front of the Bible to the end. We breakdown the various chapters of the Bible and do a couple of verses per service. Overall, I would still recommend the church. I enjoy the sermons. If you're big on praise and worship, they do an alright job at that. A lot of times it's the same repeated songs each Sunday. I don't hear a lot of Maverick City songs and other popular Christian songs you might hear at other churches. They do have a wonderful community for the youth!!! By youth I mean middle school, high school, and 18-29. They have really cool get togethers and tons of single and mingle events. read more

Spends more time talking about politics and Donald Trump than Bible study. Pastor Gary will talk about politics for 40 minutes while Bible study and prayer lasts 10-15. People go to church to learn more about the Bible and our Lord not what Trump did over the week! He will have guests come in for the full church service and ONLY talk about politics. I recommend letting attendees know that it won't be a Bible study course but a lesson on Trump and republicans so those with opposing views don't make the effort to come in that day. read more

Really great church, I recommend! They definitely talk about politics here, but I think they do it as well as a church can. Their arguments are very sound and based on scripture, and you can tell that all of the leaders are very passionate and true. I recommend getting here early because so many people come, but they do a phenomenal job getting everyone in and out in the quickest time possible. My wife and I have attended Cornerstone Chapel a few times in the past two years while searching for a local church in the Ashburn/Leesburg area. Both times, we participated online due to having a sick child, so I can't comment on the campus itself. My first and most important takeaway is that Pastor Gary is deeply involved in the political process. The first time we attended was in 2022, when he invited a political candidate who is a church member to the stage and encouraged people to vote for what God called them to. On the second occasion, his sermon took a political turn, focusing on one particular party. Another strong impression is that, on both occasions, Pastor Gary talked about being sued and fined by federal and local authorities for breaking laws--either regarding the mask mandate during COVID or for risking the church's nonprofit status by pushing political beliefs. He also mentioned that the church is using its resources to try to change the law so he can speak about politics more freely. He even suggested he might forgo the church's tax exemption to "speak his truth." He has a very Southern Baptist preaching style, and his sermons generally reflect that. Overall, if you pay attention to his teachings, he does a good job of addressing a lot of scripture and explaining what Jesus meant as long as it is not about politics. read more

This is it. The church home that we have always been searching for. There is something special happening in Leesburg! For many years, we drove past Cornerstone's parking lot on our way to church and wondered what they must be giving away for it to be so full every Sunday. We were skeptical of a larger church from experiences in the past where "pastors" spent every Sunday boosting their egos and weaving in praise of their works into a semi-biblical message. What we received at Cornerstone was much different. No pleas for giving; no begging for volunteers. Just a straightforward gospel truth in a room full of believers and people searching for His salvation. Pastor Gary charges into the topics of culture and faith fearlessly and from a position of love (of people, not their behaviors). Unlike many churches who avoid topics for political reasons, that is not the case here. We are thankful for his boldness in proclaiming truth. We have had opportunities to move for better professional opportunities, but have declined so we can remain in the Cornerstone family. Not kidding. I began attending this church a few months ago. I have heard the pastor talk about "culture wars" type issues. There is a debate in Christian circles about personal responsibility re: social issues with some believing that, given that slavery existed in all societies since the dawn of human societies and no society fought to end slavery until British Christians started the movement, we also have a responsibility to be "a light to the World" in other issues. I have never been inclined in that direction but that might be out of cowardice, so I do not judge people that speak up because maybe I have a beam in front of my own eyes. I do believe that calling this church "christian nationalist" which is a clear allusion to fascist ideologies is a total smear. I also read reviews saying that there is racial bias in this church and that has not been my observation AT ALL. I have also contacted the reviewer that claimed that they have promoted violence and will be waiting for a reply and update this review if I hear back, but that is the EXACT OPPOSITE of what I have heard the pastor preach. People in Northern Virginia seem to be very upset about conservative people. They should be able to disagree and just state facts without using smears. Protestant theology has been preaching this message for the past 500 years. One does not have to agree with it, but misrepresenting and using charged language to label people we disagree with is part of the problem. This church is conservative. It is a majority white church which seems to go with the location, but there are people from other races and they seem to treat everyone the same. They seem to be honest and kind people from my experience so far. I suggest we engage people in conversation if we do not agree with them, but smearing is not ok. Whether you are a Christian or not, we should be applying the golden rule if we want a peaceful and stable society: "do unto others what you would like them to do to you". It was wrong when people mistreated and demonized all kinds of people from being divorced, or for homosexuality and for all kinds of issues they disagreed with during more conservative times. It is exactly the same thing to demonize people because they are conservative now that society is more liberal- its bigotry just the same. Our society is desperately in need for all of us to do better. We can be the solution or we can be part of the problem. The point of this review is to relay my experience that this church has regular people who are of a conservative persuasion. If its not your thing that is fine, but they are not monsters, nazis or racists. I suggest we do not use our reviews to dehumanize them- we do not like when that is done to us, and this behavior is hurting our society. read more

I attended Cornerstone Chapel before they moved into their new building. I thought Pastor Gary was one of the best pastors I'd ever heard. He is a great speaker and I enjoyed his good sense of humor. However, I found it so disappointing that in his 2020 election message, he not only promoted Donald Trump, but he promoted the idea that violence was ok in order to save "Christianity" in this country. Although Trump has a low standard of morals, Pastor Gary said that it's not the personality but the policies that matter. So anything goes as long as it's a win for "Christianity". When Trump didn't win the election in 2020, he (Trump) continued to claim (without evidence) that the election was stolen, and his many loyal followers did the same. His "Christianity" prevailed when a violent mob attacked our Capitol, threatened to hang the VP, and proudly displayed "Trump" and "Jesus" flags. (I'm sure Jesus was proud as they knocked in windows, beat up on the Capitol police and chased after Congress men and women while the then President, who vowed to protect our Constitution, watched on TV and did nothing for hours.) We can now take comfort that the lies and violence brought a victory for "Christianity", as Trump will be our next President, and Cornerstone Chapel will probably not have to worry about their tax-free status. Forgive me for the low rating, but my version of Christianity is not this version. But, if you are a Trump fan who believes this is really Christianity in practice, then this is the church for you. Pastor Gary is a wonderful speaker and would make a great politician. It's too bad he had to bring politics into his church. Thankfully, there are other churches who do not. read more

Pastor Gary Hamrick is the best teacher I have ever had and if you are looking for someone to teach you the Bible, book by book, verse by verse, this is where you need to be! Corner Stone will never have a rainbow flag nor a Black Lives Matter flag anywhere on its property because CornerStone does not stray from faith to follow culture. We visited Cornerstone Chapel when we visited our 5 children who live in the area over the past 17 years. When we were not visiting our children we watched from NC online in addition to our church. Now that we live here we attend in person when we can and watch online when we are unable. Gary is especially gifted to present the truth of God's word in such an easy yet very informative manner. He is never boring! We are always surprised when his teaching is over as time passes quickly when he teaches. Gary does not give a sermon, but communicates God's word each Sunday as he teaches the current book of the bible. Cornerstone starts with Genesis and continues through Revelations and then starts over again. Although a large church everyone is very welcoming. This review is based off of my experience in dealing with these people and to hopefully help anyone who may be looking for a home church. I am writing this review following my experience at the physical location and then 2 rejections from their womens connection Facebook groups. Instead of "begging" to join, I thought this review was a better alternative. I am a conservative from California ( like many) and I am very aware of the REAL CALVERY CHAPEL, NOT SOME OFFSHOOT AFILIATE. Any Calvery Chapel in California is amazing, from the moment you walk in ALL THE WAY THROUGH to the moment you find your seat. This church is not Calvery Chapel. The moment my son arrived at Cornerstone Leesburg, we were greeted at the front door. And then we walked through the front door. Big mistake. A woman standing behind a table with Christmas boxes glared at me, her look seemed to say "what are you doing here" not one greeting or smile or wave. Like a robot lol I ignored her and walked to the information table. I proceeded to ask the male and female behind the counter about where I should go. Same reaction..absolutely no smile and they seemed annoyed that I was even standing there, their backs partially to me. Who raised these people?? I have never felt so rejected in my life. AND MY SON WAS STANDING THERE, already trash. I eventually found the kids corner and opened the door to walk in. There were 3 ladies standing there, SAME REACTION, NO SMILE, just looking at me. I thought I AM NOT LEAVING MY SON WITH YOU ROBOTIC WEIRDOS. I walked out and just wondered around because no one helped me navigate. My son is obsessed with the American Flag so he loved that. Not sure why it's hanging in THIS church though, my grandfather who is a 8 time congressional honoree would also be very bewildered. We "ended" up in some dark nursery room. Complete waste. Waste of gas. Waste of my precious energy-this place is a waste of space. By the way during the sermon, there are hundreds of people in this very large cafe just talking and buying stuff, it's very noisy and just chaotic while the service is going on. No reverance. It's just very weird. I know that I am not the only individual who has had this experience. I'm not from around here, I wish I would have remembered names because they would have been mentioned In this review. But that's not all. I later went to try to join Facebook groups for womens connection and was rejected, 2x. I have the screen shots. Both my son and I are bi racial and could run circles around the people that I had to deal with, looks wise. Maybe that was it, I don't know. I have a tough skin and have been through alot, but if don't have a thick skin, just avoid this building and it's contents. read more

Got there early and sipped on a delicious coffee from their coffee bar and listened to the worship service music before entering the sanctuary for the sermon. Incredibly disappointing how political this church has become over time. If you are right wing and looking to find a church that integrates politics into the your church service then this is the place for you. Pastor Gary is a great speaker and I actually have enjoyed his teachings - but the politics has become too much and not the church I want for my family. I know people love this church and I understand why - there is a lot of goodness, the pastor is a great speaker and teacher, the band/musicians are incredibly talented and the people are friendly. The issue for me is the consistent introduction and praising of Republican candidates before service (including a Jan 6th rally attendee), the declaration that you must vote Republican (as a part of their annual election service) regardless of the character of the candidates (character matters!) and the messages integrated into the teachings that make fun of others with different views (like if you actual believe the science around global warming issues). It is an echo chamber for Republicans - not an inclusive, warm church for all. In a world that has become so polarizing politically I just want a church that welcomes all, focuses on teaching the word of God and keeps politics off the pulpit. read more

Pastor Gary is very powerful and he knows it. Pride wells up in that man when he steps on stage and it's very unbecoming of a church leader. In one sermon he made a joke about how handsome he is. In another, he interrupted his own message to bring attention to a background noise and said "can we get that taken care of?" Okay sure, whatever I guess. If there's a noise, sure. But then he interrupted himself AGAIN a few minutes later with a slightly annoyed tone and said again "can someone get that noise off?" As if the sound team isn't working frantically trying to fix the issue? It struck me as the attitude of a diva. He also has used the service time (more than once - just read the other reviews) to give the stage to figures like Steve Greene from Hobby Lobby, local political figures, and other random stuff which is absoLUTELY not worship. He's using his power and influence during God's worship time to power his own political train. What did Jesus do when he saw that his Father's house was being used as a business platform? He wrecked the whole thing, flipping tables and sending the money changers away with a makeshift whip. He told the temple administration that they turned God's house of prayer into a den of robbers. What would Jesus say about Cornerstone Chapel today? As a last warning, I'll say: the members of the church who "have been going for 20 years" have all drunk the Kool Aid. They can't do anything except sing Gary's praises. When a congregation of such large numbers is all in agreement about how glistening the church leader is, you should take that as an opportunity to question things. read more

I've been attending cornerstone church for 8 years. Hands down the best pastor I've ever had. You may be sitting in a room of 2000 people but when he talks you feel like he's talking to YOU. Pastor Gary breaks things down for everyone to understand. My kids also LOVE going to church. The kids programs are awesome! They love it so much they beg to go back every Wednesday night as well. The crowd might seem intimidating - i grew up in a church of 50ish people.. so i felt that way going into cornerstone, but now i can't imagine going anywhere else. read more

I listen online to many of the messages and I have family that attend your church. I am so very grateful to hear a pastor who is willing to stand on very difficult issues of the day! After having been a Christian for most of my life, and attended multiple churches across the country, I can honestly say that this is hands-down the best church I have ever attended. I am fed more spiritually here than I ever have before. I feel like I learn something new every Sunday. To hear any negative comments about this church at all just astounds me because this is the best church I've ever attended. No church is perfect of course but Cornerstone Chapel, to me, is the reason why people go to church - to grow closer to God, to learn more about the Bible, and grow in their faith, and that's what I've experienced here. Maybe the best way to describe it is as a South Park episode waiting to air. Part of the larger Cavalry Chapel pentecostal/charasmatic cult movement, with the pastor maintaining complete control. In contrast, biblical churches have multiple layers of governing structure to ensure financial/relational/theological accountability. Also the number of "volunteers", especially middle-aged women who insist that teens call them "Mom", who spend time getting really close to teens on social media (without parental consent or knowledge) is very concerning. Unlike traditional churches, no real oversight or sense of community to prevent inappropriate crossing of boundaries. read more

Most unwelcoming church I have ever visited. I will not return. here are the comments I sent directly to the church. I attended your church at the 11:45 am service today. The greeters were merely door holders. There was no smile. There was no good morning. There was no welcome. Upon entering I saw the welcome center desk. I stood for almost 10 minutes waiting to speak with Jen about your church as it was my first visit. She stood talking with her friends about their week. She finally acknowledged me and when I asked about a church bulletin she told me that all the announcements are in the service and that I can scan the QR code. I asked again about paper information so that I can learn about the different ministries of your church and was told again there is no paper. I then took it upon myself to walk up and down the Corridor and explore on my own. I saw numerous ministry outreach tables however no matter how long I stood and stared, no one asked me if I needed information or offered to help me. Entered the lobby of the sanctuary, I saw the sign no food or drinks. I went to the ladies room poured out the last little bit of my coffee in my reusable Starbucks cup and rinse out the cup. I return to the sanctuary where I was told that I couldn't bring my cup in. I explained that it was a reusable cup and that it was empty. I was then told that I need to throw the cup in the trash. I said but it's empty. I was told that my (empty) cup could not be brought into the sanctuary and that I would need to either throw the cup in the trash or I could worship in the lobby. Just wow! Had it only been one member, I'd give the behavior a pass. However, it wasn't. I was only greeted by two members of your congregation as I walked past every ministry table where everyone was far more interested in talking to each other than they were in offer greetings and information . I think the insistence that my empty cup couldn't come into the auditorium was absurd and incredibly legalistic. It was not a drink. It was a cup! And it was empty! That really was the push to leave and not return. I definitely did not feel welcomed especially after I stood for almost 10 minutes at your welcome desk while your attendant spoke to her friends about her week and theirs with no offer of information about getting plugged in. While the apologies of the Director of Events are appreciated, I hope you can understand the value that I hold that as Christians that we should be Christ like in all that we do . While I am secure in my faith, and looking for a new church due to relocation, that may not always be the case. I encourage discussions with the 'welcoming team' as to what welcoming means when some people may come in who are making that initial ever visit to a house of worship and searching for God while looking for the outward difference in those who believe. It is the behavior that mirrors that of the secular world as I experienced today that causes comment that we Christians are no different than anyone else and screams hypocrisy. Matthew 25:40 should be applied to hospitality while graciousness should abide and abound in church. I hope that my comments are shared with the hospitality team. It is a sad state of the church when legalism of NO DRINKS extends to no empty cups prevents someone from worshiping. I could understand if I had a drink but I had an EMPTY cup. May the lost who comes to your church truly searching and yearning to fill the emptiness in their life be treated with more grace and welcoming. Michele Earhart read more

Found this church and Pastor during the "COVID-19" lockdown - the Lord comes through ! Absolutely, LOVE the sound authentic scriptural teaching of this church and Pastor! There aren't many churches left that are teaching scriptural truth, instead are teaching worldly Laodicean doctrine! I love Cornerstone Chapel. Pastor Gary consistently teaches biblical truths and is very adamant about sticking to God's Word despite what society and popular culture might do or say to try to sway us. People have complained about the fact that Pastor Gary has spoken openly about political candidates. He only encourages the congregation to vote for the candidates who most closely align with biblical principles. He does not "force" or "make" anyone vote for anyone in particular. People have also complained about being asked not to bring their coffee into the sanctuary. There are multiple signs that state "no food or drinks" yet people still act so surprised when they get asked to leave their coffee behind. read more

He has NEVER responded to my multiple emails....how is his behavior supposed to help a family heal? So far, both siblings of the deceased have refused to set foot in this "church" following the memorial, along with several previous faithful followers. read more
