Instead of the scent of frankincense and myrrh wafting to the heavens, you will smell sage, sweetgrass, cedar and tobacco. I am very sorry for those who have extremely sensitive lungs; in the post-COVID era, feel free to wear a mask if you need one. Service starts when the Spirit moves. Arrive early for parking. Come prepared to learn something, and if you are open to new ways of communing with God and with your fellow humans? This will be marvelous.

However, I will warn you that if you are sensitive to incense or smoke, you might want to sit away from the altar because they burn tobacco during the Mass. I admit that I have had minor asthma attacks in the past after going to Mass there. Also, the website states that Mass begins at 10 a.m. Fr. Ed and company usually start at 10:20 a.m. or later so be prepared to wait. I especially enjoy the chanting and the drums, not to mention the statue of St. Kateri Tekakwitha and Jesus and Mary wearing Indian dress.

Helen & Constantine for 12 years now and every summer we look forward to the wonderful weekend that is Grecian Fest. It's absolutely my kind of church fest - I can walk there, I get a chance to catch up with all my neighbors, the beer is cheap ($3!!) and there's absolutely nothing for teenagers to do meaning there are none. That last part makes this tiny fest extra delightful. What you're really going for is the food - honey puffs, spinach pie, amazing kabobs and gyros, spit roasted lamb and chicken and homemade Greek pastries. I have it on good authority that the spice mix used on their amazing chicken is available at the Spice House and is called "Greek Fest Spice" so I'm going to need to check that out. Basically, during festival weekend the Mister and I eat pretty much all of our meals here. The congregation staffs everything & they go out of their way to make sure you have a good experience. Tours of the (very beautiful) church are offered too if you're interested. Already looking forward to next year...

All I know is that once a year for a weekend in June, they throw a one hellova Hellenistic Fest. I've live a block away and hardly ever miss a day. Why would I want to cook when some of the best Greek Chicken, Gyros, and Souvlaki are mere steps away? Three dollar beers and flaming cheese will have you screaming "Opa!" all night long. Yes, the church grounds are small. Yes, there are tons of strollers blocking your way to the Gyro line. Yes, you may experience young Greek Choches dressed for a Bruno Mars video. So what, the people are nice and the food is amazing. Be sure to keep this one on your Church Festival radar! It'll make you scream Opa!

The Coptic Church is one of the oldest branches of Christianity, tracing back to the Biblical era circa 50. A.D. and Apostle Mark.
