The museum is located within a building that used to serve as the Corning City Hall - a beautiful building. They sell a combo ticket with the Corning Museum of Glass, so we decided to check it out after a visit to the glass museum earlier in the day. The museum is quite small but has an interesting collection of American and Native American works. They also have two gallery spaces dedicated to temporary exhibits. While I enjoyed our visit - the collection is well displayed on the walls of their beautiful building. But it's not a large museum, and I wouldn't say it's a must visit if you're in the Corning area. Worth a stop if you have a bit extra time in town - especially if you're interested in the temporary exhibit; it's a nice little art museum!

They also have a garden in which foods of the era were grown, including a hops plant. I had never seen one. The people who give tours are very nice, knowledgeable, and helpful. I bought an old book of beautiful photographs at an excellent price.

They have activities and events for all ages. I really enjoyed the demonstrations (glass making and the torching- I wish I got to see the glass breaking but missed it). I would give this place a good 3-5 hours, especially if you enjoy art. They have SO many items on display and activities to do. We even went back a second day! (Included in the admission ticket)

My husband and I visited the Corning Museum of Glass in Corning last week after hearing great…read morethings about it from people who have visited. It's a large museum (larger than I was expecting) dedicated to the art, history, and science of glass. When you walk in, you enter the level with art galleries. There's some incredible art in these galleries - a few pieces by well known artists, but also just plenty of pieces that showed what artists are capable of when working with glass. As I walked around the galleries, other visitors probably heard me say, "THAT'S glass?!" From there, you move into the historical galleries, which is where they show some of their more than 50,000 glass objects, some over 3,500 years old. I didn't know when in history glass was invented or about the various cultures/people in history that put their stamp on work in glass, and I learned a lot from these galleries (which is organized chronologically and by nation). Then, one floor up, there are a few galleries dedicated to the science of glass: how it's made, how colored glass is made, and more. That's also where some (but not all) of the demonstration areas are. The museum offers demonstrations in different areas of glasswork throughout the day and in different areas of the museum: hot glass demo, glass breaking, flameworking, hot glass demo bubbleheads, and more. We stopped by the Innovation Center for the Flameworking demo, which was very cool to watch. The museum offers even more. In another building behind the museum, they have a building where you can make your own glass with the help of their staff. With several options (that vary in age required, cost, length of time), you can choose a project you want to work on and then come back to pick up your glass or have it shipped to you if you're not staying in the area. We decided to make glass flowers (ages 14+, $38/flower). You put on plenty of protective gear and then make a glass flower quickly with the help of staff. I can't wait to see ours (they shipped them quickly and they're supposed to arrive tomorrow according to tracking). Before we visited, I told a friend of mine we were going to visit the museum in a week or so. He told me I'd need six hours to fully enjoy it. I thought he was nuts, but now I can see why he said that. The Corning Museum of Glass is huge, and you can definitely spend a day here. It's an incredible museum and well worth a visit if you're in the area. Just make sure you give yourself enough time to enjoy it!

The mansion itself, from the outside, is three stories.....or is it.....and absolutely beautiful on the inside. Lots of great things to look at and take pictures of. I won't post my pictures cause you need to see it for yourself. Tho I'll give you one glance with this pic of myself. The tour guide Amanda was fantastic! She was very knowledgeable and answered all of our questions. The tour lasts an hour and is only $7!! You need to go if you're in Binghamton! Definitely worth it!

He was the cousin of Elizabeth Cady Stanton, who spent time on this property. That means that this property was also connected to the suffragist movement. Visiting this site taught me much more about history that I expected. The nearly 2-hour tour was very informative. The guide knew was able to answer all of our questions! We spent part of the time sitting in the land office, so we were not standing the entire time. You'll need a map to find Peterboro, but it is worth looking at a map, finding it, and visiting. (It is northeast of Casenovia, NY.) Yes, find it! You'll be glad you did!

The mission statement is to develop a museum for the preservation of historical artifacts of local, national and international significance. They will host there that brought us around and answer any of our questions. Here we learned about the most rugged trucks in the world, the home of the Brockway Truck history, Military memorabilia from the Civil War to the Gulf war, model trains n railroad history, which was quite interesting. Theres a great display of Agricultural History in the Big Red Barn also located on the premises. You get a chance to see how people lived back in the day from Grandma's Kitchen Parlor, vintage Tractors, Fire Trucks from 1815-1970's and the History of the Dairy Industry! A very unique and curious phenomenon. We came Labor Day weekend and just about all of the ice had…read moredissipated, but they allowed us in to see and explain several theories they have for why and how this ecological mystery occurs. Some environmental experts have even visited her to try and discover why ice forms in this cave and only during the warmer weather. Still no one can quite explain exactly why ice forms sometimes several feet out of the cave. This oddity of nature struck my interest when we were planning a Sunday drive upstate and even though I knew the ice was melting I still had to visit. As a cave and cavern junkie I hoped that despite the ice being almost gone we would at least still have a tour of the actual cave. However that is not an option. The "tour" is really only admission to a room that houses the top opening of the cave allowing you to view down inside to where the ice grows up and rises out. Nonetheless I am glad I had the opportunity to see it and may travel back in early spring to see it in her full glory. The mine is closed now (early September) and will reopen seasonally in spring.
