The museum is located within a building that used to serve as the Corning City Hall - a beautiful building. They sell a combo ticket with the Corning Museum of Glass, so we decided to check it out after a visit to the glass museum earlier in the day. The museum is quite small but has an interesting collection of American and Native American works. They also have two gallery spaces dedicated to temporary exhibits. While I enjoyed our visit - the collection is well displayed on the walls of their beautiful building. But it's not a large museum, and I wouldn't say it's a must visit if you're in the Corning area. Worth a stop if you have a bit extra time in town - especially if you're interested in the temporary exhibit; it's a nice little art museum!

So, a weekend would be perfect, i.e. do not expect a whole lot to see. The glass-making session was such a unique experience. You can pick from making a colorful glass ornament to a vibrant glass flower. It's required to pick up your glasswork the next day from the proper cooling and packout processes. The museum part was also quite eye-opening to see what people can make with glass materials. As for restaurants, I personally like the Old World Cafe & Ice Cream and the Cugini Italian Market & Cafe. The Corning Glass Company is in the City of Corning, and still has its HQ here today. They maintain a great museum here that allows visitors to see the glass being made as well as the history of it all and to make a purchase or two if they would like. The museum has glass from as far back as you can imagine, they have done their homework and have a very all encompassing collection. They have a library to complement that collection and on any given day you will see students here using that library. The city has a nice commercial district, mostly made out of brink now since a fire destroyed it in the past. Its a pleasant place to walk in nice weather, and while they can get snow in winter, the rest of the year tends to be lovely here. I often come here with visitors to the WNY area. The museum is always a hit. They share their schools with the City of Painted Post, just next door.
