Although I appeared strong, my highly-regarded trainer hadn't noticed that my glute muscles weren't firing. He also missed that, especially as one ages, the small and easily-overlooked but critical stabilizer muscles (back, abs and pelvis) need to be strengthened alongside the big obvious muscles (quads, hamstrings, biceps).
