I met Emily in 2015 when my now husband and I wanted to do a couples' shoot for our one-year anniversary. She was about to give birth, so we post-poned it and did not schedule. Two years later, he proposed, so I hired her to do our 2018 wedding, complete with engagement shoot. There were some things I was dissatisfied with, and I expressed these to Emily in a professional manner. One was that during the engagement shoot, I had assumed that my ring would be featured, and it was not. I apologized for not making it more clear that I wanted this beforehand, and said I wanted to make that up since it's my grandma's ring and won't be in the wedding. Instead of responding in a way that made it clear she had heard me, there was a lot of arguing and trying to convince me that I should wait till my wedding day, when I already said it wouldn't work. If she had flat out said she couldn't do anything about it, I would've been angry, but at least I would've felt heard. I was persistent, and she scheduled with me again, saying it was no problem. I don't understand why there was so much arguing and pushing if it was no problem for her. I prefer my vendors to be honest with me about their feelings, and I am a very direct, but respectful person. I know not everyone is like this, but when running a business, you kind of have to be. After my wedding, I was dissatisfied with my photos for a number of reasons. I can't explain them all, but will do my best. One of these turned out to be a technical difficulty resulting in half the images simply not being there when she said they would. Another was an overabundance of photos of my wedding license being signed when I never asked for that, the officiant did on the fly, and I was left with two or three pictures of me and my dad with his eyes closed. I had asked him to be photographed first during the bridal party sessions due to his disabilities, not rushed or minimized. There were other issues as well, and I did bring them all up. I did not expect them all to magically be resolved, as you can't go back in time. What I had expected from Emily was for her to communicate clearly with me and do what she said she would do. I had asked for more guidance on posing from her due to the size of my dress, which she promised, and I did not receive it. I also expected her to handle a customer's issues with professionalism, which I would define as clarifying, trouble-shooting, and then finding a resolution that was acceptable. Instead, I I received what usually happens when someone has poor customer service skills and not what I'd expect from someone who has been doing this for ten years: "this has never happened before" and long paragraphs about her feelings regarding what happened that were almost instantaneous to my complaints that I took a long time to word carefully. Like I said, I want my vendors to be honest about their feelings, but this did not feel honest. I was basically cut off and it became about how she felt, not me. This made it hard to assert myself and can be perceived as manipulative. I want her to know that. It's not easy to receive criticism. But we grow as artists from constructive criticism and making mistakes. To never have experienced a dissatisfied customer in a decade of work, even one who is being unfair, really surprises me and makes me surmise that customers are not being honest. No one is that good that their work is seen as perfect. I know this as an artist myself who has received fair and unfair criticism. I would never want someone who works hard to feel I was angry or being harsh with them. But the response made me feel as if it was to avoid conflict instead of address the problem. Conflict can be good, it makes us stronger and more creative. I am not trying to be friends with my vendors, I am trying to do business. The happiest day of my life and $2k is important to me, and I have a right to have someone handle it professionally if they have made an error. In the end, we came to a resolution that I could live with, but it will take awhile to get past this interpersonal experience and the resulting photos. Pictures are forever, and so is the self you show people as an artist. I wish Emily all the best, and a successful career from here on out. She is a good photographer with years of experience, and I hope she has learned from this one as I have.

I didn't feel like I was "paying" someone for a service. I felt like I was gaining a friend. She started doing our engagement photos first. Still must be one of the best days together. She spent HOURS with us, did every single idea I could come up with. She was patient and loving with our dog, who is our world. She even let our best-man and maid-of-honor tag along to help. The photos turned out amazing, as always. Then we had our wedding 10/4/14. She spent over 9 hours with us. She got there right when I asked, like 5am (insane) and didn't budge at all. I had her in my dressing room and didn't even think twice about it because I had become that comfortable with her. She captured images I never even knew she took until I saw them later. She helped my family members, talked with my bridal party, and showed just as much love to my husband as she did to me. She knew us by then and made us laugh all the time. She knew my husband which made him relax and comfortable, which is HUGE. She had a LONG list of everything I wanted done on that day, and she got it all. I regret not having some photos done but that's on me, NOT her. She truly made our day amazing from start to finish, and not just with the photos. About a year later we had her do an anniversary/fall photoshoot with us as well. Again, amazing as always. During all this time she got to know our friends as well. To the point that she built trust with them and they hired her for their weddings. I think she gained 4 couples from us and I couldn't be prouder to refer them to her. I was a part of one of these couple's weddings as a bridesmaid and so was my husband as the best man. She showed the same laid back, funny, and professional personality at their wedding that she had at mine. I keep telling her that once we decide to have a child she will be our pregnancy photographer and then child photographer. I cannot imagine using anyone else. Emily is not just a professional, she is loving, caring, friendly, funny human being who gives you more than just photos. She gives you an experience and a connection. If you do not pick Emily as your photographer, you are truly doing yourself a miss service!

Not only did she provide us with an incredibly detailed take home package full of fun wedding themed guidelines/suggestions but she also included a questionnaire that highlighted our engagement story and allowed us to share details about ourselves for our wedding guests to read on our photo blog page. We both felt so comfortable working with Melissa and her husband as a second photographer. We got all of the shots we wanted and so many candid shots that we will truly cherish forever. Melissa was so helpful on the day of with all of her professional guidance in directing us on how to pose, where to capture the best lighting/background, and overall camera angles etc. We are so happy that we were able to work with Melissa and her husband as they made the day so much more enjoyable with their expertise and presence. We would highly recommend her to anyone who is in search for a photographer who goes above and beyond to make your photos more than you could ever imagine!

Not only was I treated disrespectfully but, I also spent money outside of paying Alexis to be at an event she planned and then backed out of last minute. Without apologizing to me or trying to work with me on a future date. I booked a mini spring session through Alexis, the owner of AMS Photography and was super excited to receive photos and professional services. It was going to be featured at a festival and because of that we had booked 7 weeks ahead. Anyways, going into less than a week before our shoot Alexis decided to cancel our session because she wasn't able to get tickets for it. Keep in mind, we bought our tickets at the time of booking with her, which were all together $60+ and are non-refundable. Then, without apologizing she gave us one date to work with and at her own digression. It was supposed to be a family shoot and the festival was a few hours away. My mom was going to drive up two hours to get to where I lived and then we would all caravan together the day of. However, since she backed out, we still have to go up there. After explaining how we still have to go and how they are non-refundable, she gave no apology and blamed the festival for the issue. Without even trying to work with me, she sent me my money back after I asked a general question about her coming up to where I live on a certain day to do our shoot, basically saying "here you go, take your money." I tried to work with her after that and was trying to explain to her that I was upset but she continued to stay hostile and show no sympathy towards mine or my family's situation. In the end, she attacked me personally and said in text "I did offer a new date that didn't work for you and gave you a refund for your deposit. So, at this point there is nothing else I can do for you. You came across angry from the get-go over something I can't control now." It was something she could've controlled from the beginning. The tickets were available at the time I initially booked with her (7 weeks before). As for her saying I came across angry, I am a paying customer. In the beginning I tried to make it work with her and she continued to keep my feelings unvalidated. I am fearful for future clients who want to work with her. I was treated disrespectfully as a customer who was paying her to be there as well as paying for the outside costs, that are not even refundable now. I have not been compensated with an apology or a later date. Alexis is and will be one of the worst photographers I have worked with. Thank you for reading and beware!
