When I first moved to Ottawa I lived in Nepean and went to Barrhaven all the time, but back then it was mostly fields, lol. So much development has happened since, but nowadays I am rarely ever in Barrhaven anymore. However, my husband and I were meeting some friends to check out a restaurant with a nice patio out in Barrhaven so we went a bit early to do some shopping...and what are my favourite stores?...Marshalls and Winners, of course (yes, we did them both, lol). So this Marshalls is in a newer plaza complex along with a Dollarama, the biggest Natural Food Pantry I've ever seen, an LCBO, Value Village, Costco and a few other businesses. I'm not crazy about the sprawling suburban plazas, where you have to drive to get from one section to another or you take your life in your own hands as you navigate the parking lots as a pedestrian, but I will endure them to shop at a Marshalls ;) So this Marshalls didn't have the best selection of merchandise. Yes, we are in the midst of the Covid Pandemic and I understand that they have supply chain issues, but compared to other Marshalls during the same time, I find this one rather lacking. I will need to go back when the Pandemic is over to see how it compares to other Marshalls locations during normal times (as my first visit was during the Pandemic). I liked that their Clearance Section was clearly marked, as this is always the first section that I shop ;) It's a big Marshalls so things are spread out and well organized, not like the tiny Urban Concept stores where everything is crammed together and organization is haphazard and weird. Like why is underwear right next to chips? Yes, I'm a city princess, but I hate "urban concept" stores! Anyway, if I'm in Barrhaven, I guarantee you I will go to this Marshalls, but I won't make a special trip to Barrhaven just to go to this Marshalls. Does that make sense? Lol.

There is a LOT of shopping now available in Barrhaven these days, even a Costco - which is better here as it has a gas station, which is always a good price (for example, yesterday's price was $133.2 per litre, a 10 cent savings over the stations near home). There is an LCBO, and a few restaurants, including a Barley Mow and a Firehouse Subs. There's also a Canadian Tire store. There was a Best Buy that I've been to before. It's a fair-sized mall which I will likely go to again.

I ordered my glasses, opted out of the bifocal lens as usual and then the issues started. When I came in to pick up my glasses, they were 3 times more expensive than promised. The frames were there without the lens being placed in them. (you will see why he did this in a second...) I asked why the price had gone up and He said I had to get the Progressives! I was stunned. I explained that I ordered the regular lenses, have already waited over 2 weeks and that as a consumer, isn't it up to me what I am comfortable wearing?! Then he says that that's ok, he will do me a favor and order the lenses that I wanted.(are you kidding me, A favor?!) I decided to take my business elsewhere and emailed the owner explaining that he was very dishonest with trying to up sell his products. I kindly told him to cancel the order. A week later, I receive 2 phone calls (from the receptionist) letting me know my glasses were ready. Well that put me in an uncomfortable situation...Had I not already canceled? I chalked this up to the company being desperate to retain the sale, so given these hard times, I went to pick them up. It was literally as if this man/owner/control freak was holding my glasses ransom! I walked in prepared to be uncomfortable, however, his first words were, "So you want your glasses eh?" Unbelievable treatment! Please save yourself the stress, time and money and find a reputable, honest shop. Honestly 3/4 of the stock are manufactured in China, and I choose not to support imports as much as I can.

Some time ago, I went to Dollarama near Costco, Citigate Barrhaven location, 4235 Strandherd Drive)…read moreexpecting to have a nice shopping experience with my wife. It was our first time ever visiting this store. It's a large store so we decided to look around at the merchandise before buying a few kitchen items. When we went to the cash register to pay, the male cashier fiercely demanded that we take off our masks. The cashier yelled at us the entire time. Next, he accused us of shoplifting. The cashier forcefully insisted that a few other customers stay at the cash register and be witnesses while he humiliated me and my wife by saying, "There's more items in this store than people pay for." After saying, "Don't move", the cashier quickly took a photo of me with his smartphone. After doing that he said, "I know what you look like, if you come back here, I will call the police. I will kick you out." My wife and I don't steal and definitely paid for everything we selected from Dollarama. (If they have a time limit for shopping it should be posted on their entrance door.) While I can sympathize that some businesses are taking losses due to theft problems, they shouldn't take out their anger and rage on honest customers. This cashier is a psychopath. He falsely accused me and my wife of stealing, while yelling and humiliating us in front of other customers. I will never go back to this Dollarama. Therefore, given this cashier (who is possibly the manager or owner), I can't in any way recommend this store to any potential customers. You have now been warned how they treat some of their customers at this Dollarama location. I would have given a rating of zero stars, but that isn't possible when leaving a review.

Refuses to issue a refund (or even store credit) when items are missing pieces. I called the store…read moreafter purchasing 3 games for my son because they were all missing one or more pieces. Was told "that's common but they are final sale". I explained I understood games can be final sale but then they are unable to be played due to the missing pieces a solution should be found. She replied "we can check every game we get" which I understand but again, when you spend $20 on items that are DONATED to the store, how can you justify not providing a credit. Will no longer be donating or advising any friends/family to donate or shop here.

The pharmacists at this location need to be trained on how to deal with people. They made mistakes…read moreand when I pointed this to them (politely), they were quite rude about it. Their prescription fee is much higher than Costco - from now on, I'll drive a little further for better service.
