I sat on the outdoor patio hoping to have lunch but they stopped serving lunch at 2:30pm and I arrived at 3pm. So I decided to have a liter of sparkling mineral water 11 euro and the Pecan Nuts and honey Pie 9.70 euro. I enjoyed every bite of the pie and the relaxing atmosphere. My first ever meal in Europe! The staff was so so so friendly. We have trouble speaking French and they helped so much. They also have half their menu translated to English which was great and made it a more easy going experience. The juice was very refreshing and delicious. My boyfriend LOVED his coffee. My boyfriend and I ate here while waiting for our tour guide to pick us up -- around 8-8:30am on a Tuesday. We wished we could have spent more time here enjoying the cafe and I would definitely come again. They offer a bunch of different sweet and savory toasts (tartines), muesli, coffee, and pastries in the morning, and tapas/drinks for lunch and dinner. Can't comment on the tapas/drinks since we were only there for breakfast, but we were very satisfied with our coffee and tartines. I recommend trying at least one of their toasts! I think their tartines are where they shine for breakfast. They offer a variety of sweet tartines (e.g. strawberry jam, raspberry jam, rhubarb jam with mascarpone cheese, etc.) and savory tartines (e.g. smoked salmon, eggs, avocado). My boyfriend and I ordered the avocado salmon toast, rhubarb + vanilla toast, and a caramel latte. Their bread is super soft, thick, and fluffy, and their fruit preserves are A+. I've personally never seen rhubarb preserves in the US so I was grateful I had a chance to try it. Service was very no-frills and straight to the point. A gardener's cottage converted into a small tapas spot. There is a small selection of Swiss beers, some wines and a number of tapas. The potatoes in cheese was very good. Basically melted cheese and potatoes soaked in it. The chestnut soup was good, very creamy though, so you have to like that. I can't say that Cottage Cafe is a place that one must seek out by any means, but it is real, genuine and welcoming. The food is good. The people are kind. The outdoor seating is the best, I think. Inside is stuffy and loud, but the food makes it worthwhile wherever. Obviously I'm not from here but I got a sense that a lot of people around me were local and came frequently. Yes, it is both romantic and hard to get the waiters attention. This is a beautiful cafe that faces the Geneva Lake so that you can enjoy people watching while dining al fresco. I was with a group of 3 others and we decided to order 10 tapas to share between us. Among the items tried were zucchini stuffed lamb, hummus with pitas, chicken wings, crispy tuna rolls, charcuterie, spinach feta cake, Roquefort with apples and nuts and crayfish with lime. The food was decadent and delicious! We all left very full and satisfied. My personal favorite was the crispy tuna rolls. Waking down the street toward the lake we found this beautiful decorated cottage cafe and had to stop by to check it out. Beautiful outdoor sitting area and a fireplace in the middle of it gets little cold. We sat there and enjoyed a cup of Coffee and tea in a very cozy atmosphere as we people watch from our seats under the tree, and if your little cold there's always blanket for you to grab!!!! read more

I was staying one last night in Geneva after a long business trip and decided to give Cottage Cafe a try as I didn't want a heavy meal. The place is cute, sitting on a green lawn, it looks like your grandmother's cottage, with books and board games sitting on the shelves around the dining area. They serve tapas/small plates of all different kinds. I had the squash and carrot soup, excellent for a winter evening, and the mango and arugula salad. Both were excellent. The two gentlemen working were very welcoming and service was good. It's a small place and busy for a Tuesday night, but I would recommend it. All the food coming out looked good. read more

We were very excited about going to this restaurant. A very pleasant setting and quite cute. We arrived early on Friday evening and were told that we could only sit outside as the inside was closed. I asked if there were anywhere to avoid the dozens of people chain-smoking at all the best tables -- well, actually EVERY table. He didn't seem to understand the question. I mustered up my best French and asked him if there were any place where we could sit that would be non-smoking, and his reply was "impossible". Oh well. We end up finding a nice place down the road with it's own microbrewery which was a lot of fun. The menu looked good and its a great location, if you're a smoker. read more

We went for lunch. Got there about 11 after a run. The hostess said they were fully booked for lunch, which didn't start til 12. She said they were only doing coffee and pastries until then. We left and called back to make a reservation. Got a table without issue for 1200. Not sure why she said they were fully booked...maybe I smelled bad after the run. Anyway, on our return, we had a delicious lunch and the waiter was exceptional. Again, my French is not the best and the menu was in French. The waiter took the time to explain everything on the menu. We learned they do a different menu every day for lunch and it's plated meals, not small plates for lunch. Based on other reviews and their website, I thought it was more of a tapas style, but that's only dinner. For lunch they do a few salads, gazpachos, one meat dish, one fish dish, and a few vegetarian options (all pastas). We ordered a local rosé, which was delicious! I had a vegetarian pumpkin seed lasagna which was very good. My wife had a vegetarian feta pasta dish, which was also very good. I'd definitely come back. The outdoor seating is perfect for the mild summer days. The food and wine were really good. The service from the waiter was amazing! read more

If there was an option for a ZERO I would give them that. We were in Switzerland for few days and checked-out yelp for few good places to eat. This one was close by and we decided to check it out. It was around 8pm when we got there and they had few sits open. After standing for 15min they gave us a sit right by the walk way. There was another sit open further up and they refused to give it to us. That was not acceptable, but we decided to try the place anyway. So we waited for a waiter to give us a menu but did not get it for the next 30 min. After my husband walked up to this lady (Korean looking woman, who seemed to be the boss and needless to say, very rude), and asked for a menu. We sat there for another 25 min and we did not get our drink order taken nor the food order. At this point we decided to leave. I don't recommend this place to anybody who values their vacation time and money. read more

Their menu is small but delicious for lunch including some of the most amazing French inspire salads. The service was prompt and friendly though at lunch one should realize that it gets quite busy. I have been here twice - once in the summer where we sat outdoors on tables viewing the lake road. The setting of this place is perfect, there is a public square nearby and a rather large monument that is in between it and the lake....I recently ate there and note that they have menu for lunch and dinner then after 5 they have a rather extensive tapas menu. Its small, old, charming and casual. I ate the lazagna on the menu which was not your traditional Italian lazagna, neither the cheeses as in teh US style or the bechamel as in Italian style....it has spinach and squash and was rahter tasty...It has a red sauce but I am thinking a bachamel would have been even better but I enjoyed it. My husband at a white fish served over a bed of vegetable puree with chantarelles. Presentation was perfect and the wait staff was very friendly. I always believed this was a very touristy place and I never felt like going. Once I decided to try and OMG THIS PLACE IS AMAZING! The setting is magical (that's why I thought it was very touristy), but then the wine selection is great with lots of local choices with good qualtiy, the tapas are excellent and the service is rather okay for Geneva (city where service is not excellent, so when you find okay service that's already good enough!). This is a place you can impress, on summer it has a lovely terrace that is very romantic even though it can be loud. I still need to try their lunch specials. I definitely recommend this place to anyone who doesn't know it. read more

Went for Breakfast. Menu limited to bread and jams(3fr), coffees (3fr)etc, fruit(7fr), and fruit with yogurt. The dinner menu appeared considerably more extensive. If you choose to eat outside beware of the birds, they are extremely strategic, bold, and will stop at nothing to grab a bite of your meal. I was so skittish that we had to end up moving inside. The bread is thick and slathered with tasty, not too sweet jam. The coffee strong and the fresh fruit bowl an acceptable portion of cherries as well as sliced grapes, blueberries, strawberries, apples, poeaches/nectarines. The presentation was cute and so is the setting indoors and outdoors-in a small park, across from the water with a view of the famous water fountain.
