The day I went there must have been about thirty people walking around and you would rarely run into any of them on the trails. There are many people traveling through this park on a regular basis, but like I said the park can withstand a good amount of traffic. Some of these trails seemed to lead to people's houses some lead to other parks. One of the trials had a little MT bike jump on it that almost resembled a pump track. I am not sure if parks and rec built the pump track or if it was just a social trail. But it was pretty cool, to say the least. There trail system is sort of laid out like a spider web as there are many little side trails that cut across each other and take you to different parts of the park. There is plenty of dirt or gravel parking from multiple areas and this park has some of the best views in town. The next time I need to take my dog for a run, I will be going to this park ASAP!

August 26-29, 2025 - La Pine, OR…read more We've stayed at La Pine Campground a few times over the years, and each visit reminds us why we keep coming back. The campground is divided into three loops, each with its own character. The North Loop offers water and electric hookups, with sites that are more widely spaced than the others--something I really appreciate. That extra room makes it feel quieter and more private, and it's probably where we'll book our next stay. The Middle Loop has full hookups, while the South Loop is the busiest, featuring full hookups as well as some cabins. . There are many hiking/cycling trails (dog-friendly), and the Deschutes River runs through the campground. There is a short hike to a waterfall, and a large dog park. Unfortunately, we were a bit restricted in our outdoor activities because of the smoke from the two fires in the area. There was actually ash falling on one of the days. Also, there had been several sightings of a mountain lion in the area, so that added a bit of caution to our activities. Nevertheless, we will definitely come back.

Some sites are fairly tight, while others had some nice room. The trails here were very enjoyable. Serene surroundings around the river and through the trees. We saw lots of deer, birds, and other critters scrambling about. I'm sure it would've had a slightly different feel during peak season, but we very much enjoyed our night and day of off season.

All is fenced in, and includes quite a few benches for humans to sit. My biggest gripe is that there is a dog bowl, but no way to fill it with water. Being high desert, I'd expect that there would be a way to get the dogs some water. Luckily I brought my own, and suddenly became really popular with all the other thirsty dogs begging for water. I realize that's a luxury, but with a dry climate, I guess I thought there'd be some way for them to stay hydrated. There are lots of trees, so the area is well shaded, but completely dirt.

I am pleasantly surprised every time I bring him here that there are lots of kids all skating. Meaning, no kids lurking, or loitering. I think that the kids using this skatepark are there to do just that, skate. Great. Definitely mixed ages, a few parents supervising the younger kids, all in all I think it's a pretty decent place. From a skateboarders perspective, it's great. There is an older skatepark on the other side of the park and that's where the scooters are. Perfect. Skateboards and scooters are a tough mix, so nice that the kids themselves have decided to keep things separate. Nothing wrong with skaters, or scooters, but it's easier logistically to keep it separate. I haven't checked out the park in earnest, but know that the part I can see that it's a street skating park. I haven't seen any bowls. Plenty of parking, plenty of seating for those parents who want to watch. Clean.

There's no grass, there is not really even a view of the lake due to the bend and surrounding foliage of the park. The rest of this area (near River Bend) is actually quite nice, so I'm really surprised at the sadness of this dog park. I suppose it's a good space for them to run, but dogs typically like grassier areas and they don't necessarily enjoy wrasling each other in hard, dirt grounds. The trash cans on this particular day were pretty full so didn't look like anyone dumped anything.

I'm not sure what to make of the BPRD. The district itself, not the various parks and facilities…read more(which are better reviewed individually on Yelp, IMO). BPRD is a tax district created in the mid-70's to manage the city of Bend parks and various facilities, which include the Juniper Swim & Fitness Center, The Pavilion (an ice rink) and the Bend Senior Center. Major parks include Shevlin, Drake, Pine Nursery and several on the river. The District has taxation authority - the citizens of Bend vote on and pay into bonds to fund the operation. It's the tax part I'm not sure I like. By creating a separate tax district, management and funding was taken away from the city of Bend and the Bend City Council. The result is that parks and recreation have a guaranteed source of revenue (if approved by voters) that the city can't divert to other uses. The flip side is that to work well, BPRD and the city council must work together to ensure Bendites have a thriving, livable city. Conflicts in vision can arise. As for the parks themselves, BPRD seems to be doing a good job. Bend has great parks. Moreover, BPRD has its priorities for future projects right, in my opinion. These include ensuring (or working towards) equal access to parks for all neighborhoods, and equal thought to preservation of the environment, particularly the Deschutes River (which, as a river, falls under the purview of other agencies as well). The BPRD board of directors (comprising five elected members) seems to conduct it's business openly from what I can see attending meetings, and they seem to have a good working relationship with the professional staff. So, nothing much to complain about. I'm just not sure if the whole thing might be better off being overseen by the city council.

Shevlin park is somewhere we would visit every summer growing up when visiting family in the area…read more They have great trails, fishing, picnicking, and even slow spots where you can get in the water. Shevlin park has a teepee that you can check out and go inside of, they have more than one trail, good for bike riding, dog walking, fishing. I remember having picnics here as a kid and I still come back as an adult when in the area. They trails are low impact and fairly flat.

We absolutely love nature, and knew we had to try it. At first upon arriving, I feared there would be no parking at 11:00 a.m. However, the lot was only halfway full which was nice. The trails were laid out on the trail map a little ways past the shelter on the left, but there was a discrepancy between what the trail map said and the websites listed in terms of trail names and trail lengths. So, we decided to forge our own path. We took the main loop around. The conifer trees and contrast with the desert landscape were beautiful, and the creek shots were stunning.

Nice big shade trees. Great place for a picnic. Bring the dogs, they've got a great area where dogs are allowed off leash. We were there today and played frisbee. Plenty of room, not crowded. A first aid class was being offered today at the barn, so it seems like there is always something going on. They also have a community garden where you can lease a plot on an annual basis. Get up early and wait in line once a year to try and get a slot. If you are lucky enough to get a spot they have a great support network of master gardeners that can help you with ideas, solutions, etc. in your effort to achieve the perfect garden. Or archive whatever it is that you are hoping to achieve. Nicely run, organized, friendly and a great resource.

No public restroom, just two porta-potties. This is along one of the biking trails but there is also a parking lot.
